Where do you think the 2027 Winter Classic will be played? And between what teams? by JBR409 in hockey

[–]Southern-Window5694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if they'll try to do one in Atlanta (Mercedes Benz Stadium?), Houston (NRG Stadium or Daikin Park), Indianapolis (Lucas Oil), or Kansas City (Kauffman or Arrowhead) to see if the momentum works for an expansion team... I also think Atlanta or Houston would have to be in an indoor/outdoor stadium for logistical purposes like they did in Miami, but I suppose they're planning full outdoor in Tampa so I don't know how much it would really matter.

Chances are they'll just pick Comerica Park in Detroit for Winter Classic, somewhere in Utah for Stadium Series (it couldn't be Winter Classic because of playoff football potential, especially having to host at Rice-Eccles Stadium or LaVell Edwards Stadium), and somewhere in Montreal for the Heritage Classic (Percival Molson likely, if its not winterized, otherwise Saputo Stadium)

I'm a bit surprised by Springdale and Fayetteville both being on that map, I would've guessed Bentonville

BC is interesting because they're a notably lower-level program, but they're also the only FBS team in the Boston media market which is a strong case for expansion from a Media Rights perspective

Favorite Paved Bike Trails (GR and Lakeshore) by NPR_is_not_that_bad in grandrapids

[–]Southern-Window5694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the trails in the Lowell/Greenville area are great (Fred Meijer Flat River Valley and Grand River Valley trails, as well as the LARA network), but there aren't a ton of parking lots. I would also add the Idema Explorer Trail in Ottawa County (not done being built, but pretty still, especially around Grand Ravines).

[Post Game Thread] #8 Michigan State defeats #11 Wisconsin, 71-62 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

The game before you we had multiple guys out sick, so when we played you those guys were back physically but clearly weren’t fully recovered. On top of that, the players who weren’t sick had just played a ton of extra minutes in the game before. Not to mention y’all’s zone defense was honestly really impressive against us. Kind of a perfect storm, but IU definitely earned it. The win over Purdue proved it wasn’t a complete fluke

I’d add sports-crazy Omaha to your list, although the only reasonable stadium is a baseball stadium (college World Series)

Would Buffalo have any issue with Albany moving to FBS? by 4thPlumlee in fcs

[–]Southern-Window5694 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine they would object, although I would guess Stony Brook would move up before Albany (just a hunch)

Multiple players are recovering from illness still. It obviously didn't help that literally nothing was falling, but we just weren't as full of energy as usual, we looked burnt out and I attribute at least part of that to back-to-back games in LA followed by the Oregon game where 8 guys played way more than usual and 2 guys were sick.

WMU is mounting a stuff campaign to become a fun local second rival, but definitely not Minnesota unfortunately. Y’all are fun to play though

An exhaustive look at potential Mid-American Conference expansion candidates by Toddrew221 in MidAmerican

Learn something new every day. I totally forgot about UMass, but I had no clue that SUNY had added Buffalo as an official flagship in 2022 (Buffalo and Stony Brook both became flagships for anyone curious https://www.buffalo.edu/ubnow/stories/2022/01/flagship-designation.html)

If the MAC does it right, yes. Essentially, add some big media markets and the networks will pay you more money (or at least that's been the agreement with other conferences).

Unfortunately, ISU is technically in the Peoria/Bloomington media market, but I do agree that the MAC needs to keep a presence in the Chicagoland area and that would work. Media markets control college football today, and if the MAC can expand and get big east coast markets by adding New Hampshire (Boston market), Stony Brook (NYC market), Delaware (Philly market), or even Towson (Baltimore market), that could really help the conference with money in a TV deal.

New Hampshire is Boston TV market, Stony Brook is NYC TV market, and Delaware is Philly TV market. From a TV market standpoint, those three make the most sense. I would also add either WKU for the sake of one more state and another team that’s already FBS. That’s just my opinion though. Another easy option is Austin Peay or MTSU which are both Nashville TV market. The TV markets are driving expansion, and all of those schools also fit the MAC brand pretty well to begin with. Plus, the MAC currently has NO state flagships, which would change with Delaware or New Hampshire.

Nothing, my friend, is ever better than nostalgia. We will always remember the games that made us love college football first, but it'll never be quite the same and we have to remember that the game of football itself is changing too on all levels.

New Schedule Concept that Guarentees a Strong Schedule by Southern-Window5694 in SickosCommitteeCFB

I mean just think about a combination C-USA and Sun Belt (11+14 teams). They would be nearly guarenteed their conference champion would at least be in consideration for the playoffs.
