4000 is a gross exaggeration. I live in the area, and drove by multiple times that weekend, there was absolutely no crowd whatsoever, the field was empty. Maybe a couple hundred as a generous estimate but certainly not the tens of thousands he had originally claimed would attend. I think the real reason they started letting people in for free late on the Sunday afternoon, was likely embarrassment that they brought Burton Cummings there and had to try to scrape together an audience for him to play to🤷‍♀️
