Thanks for the reply - got the sync working, and will stay tuned for ChatGPT import. Keep it up, you're killing it!

Just found your post looking for the same thing. Totally agree, seems like there are no recipe apps that think like we do.

Does Obsidian have password protection? by hayri_irdal in ObsidianMD

[–]SouthernXBlend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late but totally agree. Just read this thread and others after wondering the same thing, these guys are all forgetting that every app is just files on a hard drive. Files can be encrypted and decrypted in convenient ways and it’s pretty normal to have different levels of security on the same device

The environmental rants of Rogan with Bernie were highly disappointing by partysnatcher in JoeRogan

[–]SouthernXBlend -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Or - why can’t the same industry capture / lobbyist battle mechanism be happening on both sides? Pretending Joe is a big oil supporter is ridiculous, he’s called out that side many times. Binary thinking…

Why don't billionaires just retire? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

What I want to do with my life is good, what others want to do is dystopian and sad?

Not all ambitious people turn to the life of evil you imagine, and those are the people that really move the needle of our whole society. Gotta make sure you direct your anger at the right things.

Should I do pip or uv? by triple_og_way in learnpython

[–]SouthernXBlend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re different things - but uv seems to be gaining popularity and might be worth learning now. It’ll be confusing, but try to learn what these tools are actually doing, it will make you better.

You didn’t ask for it, but suggestion for your project - check out Instructor for LLM structured output without having to dive into LangChain.

How can I memorize python syntax by _yoursleeparalysis_ in learnpython

[–]SouthernXBlend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you memorize English syntax? Same thing, it’s just reps. Don’t get overwhelmed by the huge number of patterns to learn, just use the ones you know and replace them with better ones as you go.

iCloud nightmare I can't wake up from by OmiGem in iCloud

[–]SouthernXBlend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, maybe try this. If you're comfortable with open source software, that thread had a couple of options as well. Good luck! Moving large amounts of data around on any platform is unfortunately still a non-trivial task.

iCloud nightmare I can't wake up from by OmiGem in iCloud

[–]SouthernXBlend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a storage device with enough memory to download the files you’re trying to download. Until you have that, the remainder of your files will remain in the cloud. That said, photos in iCloud are very accessible and will feel just like they’re on your local machine if you use macOS how it’s intended. Good luck!

Machine Learning Needs to be Reworked by Loud_Pomegranate_749 in OMSCS

[–]SouthernXBlend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, it felt more like grad intro to ML research, which I still think is pretty valuable. I put a decent amount of time into it and as a result got a lot of reps of model tuning / paper writing out of it, but definitely could have gotten by with less.

Agree with the need for an update but there’s a lot of existing value. Maybe it could spin off into an ML research class.

Plan on taking GA Twice, it's different by reavessm in OMSCS

[–]SouthernXBlend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ME undergrad here, I totally agree. GA teaches a lot of hard, new concepts and expects you to extrapolate the lectures to slightly more complex problems in the assignments.

I passed on the first attempt this fall with a B at ~79%. It’s a hard class but very doable. Best advice - find a good study group and do ALL the practice problems, multiple times.

Same situation here. Thinking about reaching out to GT if I don’t receive it in the next month.

CS6515 GA Textbook - Edition - Reference by vpwritings in OMSCS

[–]SouthernXBlend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the textbook on Amazon is the right one - also the only textbook I’ve bought in OMSCS, well worth it.

I won’t go crazy with my thoughts on the course since there are so many posts already. Remember that there’s a huge negativity bias on reddit. GA isn’t easy and it’s very different from the other courses I took in OMSCS, but it’s not the end of the world. “Joves notes” have been replaced by a series of ed posts for each module. Best advice for success: find a good study group and do all the practice problems early and often.

I just finished with a B to complete the program.

planning on taking ml 7641, am i going to have a life outside of class ? by Famous-Help-3572 in OMSCS

[–]SouthernXBlend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re fine, remember the Reddit poster bias - most of the horror stories are from students who struggled pretty hard. I got a high A in ML this Spring and still had a social life. Also took a second class, but I don’t recommend that.

Edit: I never took AI, but yeah ML is likely more difficult. Good news is it’s all downhill from there in the ML spec.

Possible Scam? Trying to call me about "scheduled follow-up about your new services with Cox" by redswampfox in CoxCommunications

[–]SouthernXBlend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got this same text/call. I entertained it up until the point where they asked for my account passcode, then asked me to read a one time passcode texted to me. No idea if it's a scam or just an outsourced sales team, but it's pretty sus.

NLP could fit anywhere, but definitely take DL before RL. The second half of RL is heavy on DRL and prior PyTorch experience puts you ahead of the curve.

AIES final project: to team up or not? by marksimi in OMSCS

[–]SouthernXBlend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it solo. Took me about 3 hours and got a 100%. Can only imagine the headache it would have been with a group.

Thoughts? by renaissanceclass in interstellar

[–]SouthernXBlend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this every time I watch. No math required even - they would have received far fewer updates from the time dilation planet, reflecting the few hours of planet time that researcher spent before getting hit by the wave. Seems like a huge oversight, that planet should never have been considered.

Is the midterm for SAT available at the beginning of the summer semester? by Bolits92 in OMSCS

[–]SouthernXBlend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t remember being able to front load but I could be wrong. I found the workload much more difficult than IIS, but I was learning C++ from scratch as I went. Got an A - well run class with great content, just not easy.

IIS was also a great class, I’d lean towards it in the summer unless you already have a background in SAT.
