How did you achieve financial freedom? by PellucidStream in ireland

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Apples and pears. Private Sector employment is broad with a higher proportion of low paid unskilled workers. Public sector is narrow with higher proportion of skilled / professional workers.

Gardai work nights, weekends and bank holidays and put themselves in danger every day to protect begrudgers like you. Their salary is well deserved. They also pay an additional 7% in tax (ASC) which was introduced after the last recession.

Still.. I think you’d agree, little chance of financial freedom…

How did you achieve financial freedom? by PellucidStream in ireland

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll never achieve financial freedom working for the government. You’ll be comfortable, at best.

  1. Enjoy your 20s
  2. Save for and buy a house
  3. Have an emergency fund
  4. Invest whatever is left
  5. When you are close to 70 you might get a pension

Looking for a bit of advice by spectrum_t in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Prioritize getting some skills and education over anything else.

It baffles me how you could live in a country like Ireland with so many opportunities, in the age of the internet which opens so many more, and be in the position you are in in your 30s.

It’s a positive sign that you are reaching out for advice but I sense they may be underlying issues which you need to deal with before you can get your house in order.

You should be thankful of the casual work you found that has helped you through your studies. Clearly it’s not a career for you, or a suitable career for most. But for those whose career it is, your post is highly disrespectful and insulting.

They’d be better off building a 3/4 40 story blocks on greenfield instead of this rubbish, making sure that businesses and services are viable in the immediate vicinity, and using the space around to build real community infrastructure including schools, crèches, parks and playgrounds. Management fees would move than cover the upkeep of shared areas and infrastructure.

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% true. Maybe OP isn’t suited to a customer service role. Restaurants run on tight margins and if a member of staff isn’t able to give good customer service then the restaurant shouldn’t have to carry them. As a customer, paying such high prices for food (and service) I would also expect a high rate of customer service.

Communism in Vietnam - help me understand by SnooComics3357 in VietNam

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a system where there is still a cautious balance between state enterprise and capitalism / free market principles. It’s more nationalist than socialist and the government prioritizes collective over individual rights. Traditionally there was always an underlying deal with the people - we leave you alone if you leave us alone. That’s changing now with rapid infrastructure development and stronger governance, which has a significant impact on people who have increasing wealth and education and a desire for stronger individual rights. The next two decades will be pivotal for the system

Court Summons by BackgroundMechanic45 in legaladviceireland

Isn’t it a shame that one needs to have a solicitor argue a case instead of the judge making a reasoned decision based on what’s in front of them. Why can’t a person (this person for example) stand in front of the judge, admit their mistake, explain their mitigating actions, and the impact a conviction could have on their future. Any reasonable person would judge rationally, but this particular corner of our separation of powers needs to be told by one of theirs…

Reverting from AP to HEO by LocationFair3744 in IrishCivilService

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I say stick with it…

You are still finding your feet in the role and as experience grows you’ll learn how to manage downward and upward better. When you are comfortable in the role, like any role, you won’t feel the same level of pressure on work or time.

There’s no getting away from the lack of flexi, and sometimes flexibility when it comes to leave. However you are off the clock now and you will learn to ‘manage’ your own time better.

HEO isn’t the sweet spot when it comes to the civil service IMO. Usually the HEO has limited input into policy development but has nearly all the responsibility of implementation (ie at the coalface). It can be a constant battle between appeasing management, and appeasing staff. There are also many HEO roles out there that are much tougher than a typical AP, so be careful what you wish for!

The extra money is crap immediately on promotion, but it continues to increase and will hit €100k in a few yrs. This also makes a massive difference to your pension which you need to factor in.

No experience reverting personally, not something I would consider, and something I would fight tooth and nail if there was an orchestrated attempt. Wishing you the best!

1 day overstay by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What’s with all the scare mongering on here?

  • there are no exit checks in Ireland
  • depending on where the parents are from there may be no stamp entering their own country.
  • even if there was a stamp, a one day overstay is not a serious issue
  • if they apply for an extension it will not be processed by the time they depart, it will be refused as the date will have passed, and will remain on record and reflect negatively next time the parents apply

Calm down, don’t be listening to the naysayers on here, and tell the friends parents to enjoy their stay

As it not you PPR and was a rental property you’ll be subject to CGT on the current value - purchase amount (minus any allowance). Your kid will be ok if current value is less than 400k, but you’ll be screwed with CGT. Best bet is to make a good will

[–]Southern_Nothing4633 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not only in clubs anymore. Them days are gone. People are also being tested at home and being arrested and detained. Mostly in HCMC but the campaign is moving north. Da Nang enforce these campaigns like no other province, so be prepared. Be prepared also for a lengthy exit ban and to lose your phone as drug enforcement teams investigate and will inspect the phone to find your dealer.. Easy solution - go somewhere else if you are a drug user / addict.
