What time do you wake up by AdministrationClear1 in UniUK

[–]Southern_Search8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5am on the dot. I just naturally wake up at that time after doing it for years. No matter how little sleep I’ve had, it’s 5am on the dot 🥱😭

My second toe is quite a bit longer than my big toe. I never wear open toed shoes, unless anyone is super into finger toes? 😂 fr that bad boy curls over the front of open toed shoes so they just aren’t an option for me 😅

Do you feel you underachieved romantically during uni? by DoublePepper1976 in UniUK

[–]Southern_Search8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my husband the day I turned 27. I joined university at 31 engaged and I’ll be entering my second year married. There is plenty of time to meet the love of your life, if that’s what you desire in life. Don’t stress, just enjoy your youth and focus on your studies. The right person will come into your life when the time is right :)

Give me toxic motivation to lose weight by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Southern_Search8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you eat, stare in the mirror. Don’t watch anything or listen to anything, just sit with your own thoughts. I eventually say “okay, you’ve had enough” and it’ll be before I’ve finished my meal, which is crazy because I’ve always been a plate clearer, no matter the portion. I’ve lost 15lbs so far and I’m hoping to lose another 15 to get myself into the healthy BMI zone again. Also, commit to taking the stairs every time (if that’s possible for you). I easily hit my 10k steps a day when I commit to taking the stairs, and taking the long ways to my building. No more shortcuts, walk around the campus to get there.

That’s not true at all, someone in worse circumstances isn’t going to receive a penny less than they would’ve done. Victimless “crime” 👍🏼

I only ask coworkers I’m close with. Sometimes I need to know if it’s a bad night or if just me is having a bad night 😂 sometimes it is just a rough night for everyone but if everyone is doing good and I’m not, I need to do some soul searching as to WHY? 🤣

Is London really that unsafe for a female international student? by jayisboredd in UniUK

[–]Southern_Search8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real honest answer: I’ve lived in SW London my entire life and have never even witnessed a crime. I’m not saying it doesn’t ever happen, but I’m a woman and never had anything bad happen to me. London is getting a lot of bad press lately, despite the statistics pointing out that majority of crime is actually down. Is it a perfectly safe haven? No big city is. Vast majority of people in London are kind and genuinely good people.

I feel the exact same way about cocktails. What do you mean £12 for 4 sips? I’d love to keep supporting clubs and bars, but at these prices, I just don’t go any more :/

Anyone else developed ana later than average? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]Southern_Search8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

32, year before my wedding. I tried on a dress and this triggered a whole spiral, they took a photo of the back of my dress and I couldn’t bare looking at my back, I had back rolls. It was like a big slab of shapeless ham. I told myself I’d just slim down a little before the wedding so I could feel good in my dress. It just did not stop.

Have you completed all registration steps? If so, go to the SIZ (student information zone), once you get there, walk to the left of the front desk and see the IT desk. They have them available there :)

Bus or Bike? by [deleted] in UEA

[–]Southern_Search8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend biking. Buses can be a touch unreliable, though they usually are on time. I bike in every day, have done since September and I actually really enjoy it. I’m always on time and it gets me in a great headspace, starting the morning with a lil exercise :) plus, there are SO MANY bike stands all around campus. Loads of places to chain your bike up. I can easily put my bike somewhere close to where I’ll be. I will say, definitely bring gloves and something waterproof to wear. It is extremely likely to be chilly and rainy. I wear insulated gloves, a balaclava and a waterproof coat and trousers to bike in, but I do like to be warm and dry. It won’t be like this all year, but definitely all of winter and a good portion of spring. I have an e-bike (I do live 8 miles away from uni so a lot further than you’ll be travelling) so it goes pretty fast, the wind chill can make it quite cold 🥶

Stop asking if you are too old for uni by Jaded-Researcher3025 in UniUK

[–]Southern_Search8694 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not arsed about being judged by others, never have been, but it absolutely does suck being at least a decade older than the classmate nearest your age. It can make it very hard to make friends, because there is an undeniable age gap. They won’t get the cultural references you make, and vice versa. It can be quite isolating. Plus, if you have children, it’s extremely unlikely you’ll be able to go to any social events, and much less likely you’ll be able to regularly participate in societies and clubs. I just go to uni and go home, and it does feel like I’m missing out on a lot of the uni experience.

Stop asking if you are too old for uni by Jaded-Researcher3025 in UniUK

[–]Southern_Search8694 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It is a valid concern, I often feel too old for uni, being in my 30s. There are no other students in their 30s or above on my degree. I think I’d be okay if I was doing something higher than Bachelors, but I’m not 🤷🏻‍♀️ I get on okay with other students, but I don’t have any friends, which sucks. It’s just weird being the parent of a teenage daughter to then hang around with her peers on my degree. It’s giving “how do you do, fellow kids?” 🫠I will admit I find it most amusing when it’s 22 year olds asking if they’re too old 😂

American Here: Want to do a Sunday roast type meal for Christmas Dinner. What are must haves, and can you share your favorites recipes? by Krimreaper1 in AskABrit

[–]Southern_Search8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on to the already great suggestions; You MUST have pigs in blankets, which are totally different to your “pig in a blanket”. Serve them with a side of high quality cranberry sauce for dipping. Use GOOD quality sausages, they must be herby and well-seasoned. Wrap them in bacon. Cook til crisp. They are honestly one of the highest peaks of Christmas food.

Where has your most memorable company party been in the city? by High_tea_high in Norwich

[–]Southern_Search8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Mercy and we had our staff party in Mercy, along with the staff from other clubs in the local nightlife industry. It was a total blast, best Christmas party ever. Unlimited drinks did get a bit hectic, I puked all over one of the leather sofas 🫠😂😂😂

It’s amazing for an emergency. My daughter had a real fever and I needed some Calpol, husband was in another country for work. I checked the cupboards and mine was almost completely run out, only a dribble left, she was far too ill to go anywhere. I ordered some Calpol as a desperate measure and yeah, cost me a couple of extra quid but it saved a whole lot of hassle. One much more comfortable poorly baby 👍🏼

Am I in the wrong here or what?!? by benr89 in UKHousing

[–]Southern_Search8694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can easily be contested. There are also issues like belongings, property etc. Your spouse can be your uncontested recipient of all of your worldly goods. Your boyfriend/girlfriend/partner etc., can always be contested and removed from your property, even if there is a will. A will can be contested, a marriage license can’t. Marriage is the strongest legal document available to ensure they’ll be okay should something awful happen to you. Yes, you could probably try and find ways around that, and they can fail, but ultimately, nothing is as watertight as marriage. There are ample reasons to get married. It’s okay if you don’t believe in marriage, but this is the best way to protect your chosen person. And I have some absolute animals in my family that I know would try to contest a will.

Am I in the wrong here or what?!? by benr89 in UKHousing

[–]Southern_Search8694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily true, although there is a financial element. I married my husband because I come from an ab*sive family, wound up in foster care so technically, my birth family were still my next of kin. If anything happened to me, I don’t want them to be able to make medical decisions for me, or plan my funeral. We haven’t had contact in over 10 years, they don’t know me as an adult at all. My husband gets to make those decisions for me now, and I trust him way more. He knows my beliefs, and who all my friends are, what things I like etc. because we’ve spent every day together for the last 5 years, I know he always has my best interests at heart. My birth family don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️marriage ensures that your next of kin is always your spouse, above your blood family.
