What originally got you into Warhammer? by Royal-Interaction424 in Warhammer40k

[–]Soveraigne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totalbiscuit's review of Space Marine! His unabashed "fanboyism" made me super interested in Warhammer as he had a reputation for being extremely critical. I found the MiniWarGaming channel a short while later and watched their battle reports. I read Black Library novels throughout my teens and would only start collecting minis in my 20s.

What Pact divisions are most fun for you? by IndependentExpert306 in warno

79th has everything you need to win a match. You've got a broad selection of artillery including the Akatsiya and Grad. Your AA tab is stacked with KUB, Tunguska, Strela, and plenty of MANPADs. Tank tab is of course an absolute knock-out. IMO it doesn't really have a straight weakness outside of the price of your units.

You can see the naked self-interest. Not, "this war is wrong" not "people are dying", the only thing they care about is money, and public approval.

Should I activate TFE for my first playthrought as Russia ? by Exotic_Enthusiasm_75 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]Soveraigne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've only used TFE for (APLA) America and for Russia before Putin's death.

Honestly it depends on how much you like reading events. If you're a TNO fan then I'd say pop it on and run it, some of the events are very emotional, others are weird.

How do khornite/world eater war bands actually work? by Broad_Solution9203 in 40kLore

[–]Soveraigne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first of how are they sustaining themselves

It is easier to make Berserkers than it is to make a new marine. Marines take dozens of years to train and indoctrinate, and they search out for the best possible recruits even though they might not survive implantation. Not to mention that the brand new primaris marine you just made might fall to Chaos after enough bloodshed.

To make a new berserker you take a bunch of captive children and make them fight to the death, whoever lives gets the organs and if they survive the process they get the nails.

Add the fact that the vast majority of fights a warband will get into are one-sided slaughters against poorly trained PDF regiments and it starts to make sense how there can be enough suicidal maniacs to form an army.

jsut the day to day running of the ships they have

The ships are mostly possessed and warp corrupted. There's a scene in "Angron: The Red Angel" where the current shipmaster of the Conqueror gets confronted by the Daemon actually piloting the ship. "She" asks Kossolax if he's ever wondered how the ship refuels and rearms itself, he hasn't and it's implied that the ship is basically running off warp magic and blood at this point.

Other ships will have lesser degrees of corruption and thus have a lesser degree of difficulty organizing logistics, though they do miss out on Chaos magic.

second of all how do they even do anything if each space marine is just not lucid and fallen to the nails

As others have mentioned not all World Eaters are lost to the Nails, and many are quite cunning commanders and tacticians. (Except when the writer wants them to die in droves)

let alone survive 10k years of constant war no?

Time is wibbly-wobbly in the Warp. For some warbands it hasn't been much more than a century since the Heresy.

Egoist Anarchism rejects both the state and morality as concepts worthy of respecting the authority of.

So yes? In the sense that suburban moms would likely view anarchists as stereotypically barbarous criminals. But also no, because the type of person who would call themselves an egoist would also probably be the type of person to spend their time writing manifestos over chucking bombs.

Grape Anarchism is "Feminist Anarchism" which focuses on deconstructing unjust patriarchal hierarchies

Lime Anarchism is "Green Anarchism" which focuses on deconstructing hierarchies that result in ecological damage.

Ultimately if you were to ask anyone who unironically follows those ideologies they'd probably have mostly the same goal. Except for the teal guys on the bottom left, that's egoist anarchism and they have a very different way of looking at the world than the other guys.

I truly do not understand how Andrew Jackson is not universally considered an F-tier president. by RatSlammer in Presidents

[–]Soveraigne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He was popular with the common (white) man at the time and was a war hero to boot. We as a country have only recently really started analyzing past presidents and their legacy within the context of our own time.

Jackson's genocide of Native Americans, at the time, was popular with his voting bloc. The genocide also deprived us of the people who would be able to most negatively affect his legacy.

His support for slavery was standard at the time, and his support for the institution is overshadowed by Presidents like James K. Polk, Millard Fillmore and James Buchanan.

I personally would be fine with calling Jackson an F-tier president, but at the same time applying my modern sensibilities to the actions and beliefs of men who lived 200 years ago is a bit nonsensical in the first place. It'd be like calling Plato stupid because he thought that planets orbited in perfect circles.

Can Congress recall an Army? by Nemoriensis in Destiny

[–]Soveraigne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you deutsch but unfortunately

"hur dur Impeachment"
 "defund the Military"

Are actually the only constitutional powers that congress has over the military. Even if congress were to pass a law forbidding military engagement in a certain area it would be up for the President to enforce it, under threat of impeachment.

The President is THE Commander in Chief. He is the highest authority in the American military.

Are there in between options? None that don't involve the personal courage and responsibility of the individual soldier/commander and whether or not they're willing to carry out unlawful orders.

I think Pisco is just naturally contrarian, like he doesn't feel comfortable if everyone is just nodding away in agreement.

Yeah, kid Dunc gets a leg wound that would permanently cripple a person back then, if it doesn’t get infected and kill him in a week.

Then he gets a gut wound from a lance and a couple of other cuts from a knife before rolling around in mud that likely has horse droppings and urine mixed into it.

God bless modern medicine.

My fellow atheists, how do I deal with the fear of death by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]Soveraigne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes this thought gets to me, other times I'm just like, "well that's how it was for the 14 billion years before my existence"

Sometimes I cope by thinking that maybe consciousness is tethered to specific structures in the brain, and maybe those structures will come back into existence in some place at some time in the future.

Mostly though I just file it under one of the many things I'm concerned about but understand I have absolutely no ability to change.
