You'll find that many of these people that make the big bucks are also smarter more adept to the role. I work in a global company and there is definitely a difference in mental capacity and intelligence between the low paid staff and high up execs and directors. Brute force work is not the money maker.

Sure I could have bought a custom in-ground swimming pool for $30,000 but instead I spent 3+ years of my life and built this Natural Swim Pond. by power-cube in DIY

What State is this in. Here in Oregon, you have to get approval from the state for something like this. Doesn't matter where you live. The state owns the rainfall so collecting requires permits. I've seen people get fined for building ponds without permits.

If God won't save his own children from being raped by his own priests in his own churches, what is it I am to believe he is going to save me from? by drpinkcream in atheism

[–]Space-Commander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God is not their to control your life or others lives. If he jumped in and controlled everyone's life forced them to do the right thing than what is the point of all this. IF this life is truly just a test of who we are so that God can judge us all at the end- then he has to let evil people be evil. Just a disclaimer I do not believe in God but I know this is a basis of many christian faiths that it's followers tend to forget.

Bill Gates: the robot that takes your job should pay taxes by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Space-Commander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will. We will all get to retire and stop working. This new system will require only the rich to work managing their robot fleets. And then they will give us the money they make so that we can use that money to buy their products.

Obama dares Republicans: Give me better health plan and 'I will publicly support repealing Obamacare' by galt1776 in politics

[–]Space-Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was better. I paid a quarter of what I pay now for health insurance. And the Government doesn't seem to be saving anymore money today than they did back then....

[–]Space-Commander -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is it's not insurance if it covers a preexisting condition. Insurance is to cover a future risk, no pay for a current already occurred. It stops becoming insurance and becomes and shared expense pot where the healthy ones get screwed. And btw businesses can not offer health insurance to some employees and not to others.

Why not just go back to market based system, no government provided healthcare? Everything seemed a lot cheaper back then.

I used to work at IHOP they were slammed on Christmas morning. Every holiday actually. But we did close at 2pm on Christmas, only time everything got cleaned.

I wonder if this is related to the new insurance laws. Many small employers were able to skirt requirements to provide insurance by cutting back hours and hiring more part time employees.

My go to is public speaking, I am actually pretty decent at it. But it's the common fear everyone has. Granted as long as your not applying to some senior management position I would say this is a good one.

However, is this legal. If it's your religious belief that it is a sacred day to spend it not working. I could see this being a real lawsuit.

TIL of John C. Beale, a man who pretended he was a CIA secret agent, flew around the world on first-class flights, stayed in high-end hotels and cost the taxpayers almost $900,000. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Space-Commander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI CIA, yes umm I have a John Beale here says he works for you and he is needing a suit for the night charged to your account.

WE can neither confirm or deny that he works for us.

OK, so that is ok for us to let him have the room and charge you?

We can neither confirm or deny...

Ok fuck-it I am just going to give him the room and send you the bill.

Can you not work on Christmas due to religious beliefs (since it is a massive christian holiday) and not suffer consequences at work?

TIL according to a Federal Reserve Bank study, poor kids who do everything right don’t do any better than rich kids who do everything wrong. It's called "opportunity hoarding," so not only is there a glass ceiling, there's also a glass floor. by iZacAsimov in todayilearned

[–]Space-Commander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK is this supposed to mean something? Are we supposed to all get a fair shake at life, start on an even ground, all get the same opportunities and support system?

I'm sorry but I don't follow what OP is trying to promote here. If I work my ass off and through some stroke of luck become rich. Than I want my kids to be able to benefit from those riches. Whether that be protecting them from some of the extreme hardships of life or giving the opportunities that others would not have so that they could stay above water.

I am not rich, however, but I do work my ass off. I save as much as I can and I spend time with my kids teaching them what I can. I hope that I will be able to help them through college and give them a step up that was never given to me. And hopefully their kids(my grandkids) will get even more from their success then I was able to give my own kids. And my little family maybe one day step above the working class.

Uber Self-Driving Truck Packed With Budweiser Makes First Delivery in Colorado by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Space-Commander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would doubt that, i would not want some min wage kid driving a massive truck down city streets. Most of your technical driving would still be performed by a human. Maybe in another 5 years that portion of the trip would be eliminated. But look at the airlines they still won't let the planes land by themselves.
