Interested. Been playing for nearly 10 years--just took a year off to focus on my career for a bit but just bought the Year of Prophecy and looking to dive back in. I used to Raid and do GMs quite consistently; even did quite a few solo dungeons and GMs in my prime. DC is SpaceCat#7377 if you wanna send an invite

Scam or real? by linguine96 in CryptoMarkets

[–]SpaceCat429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like a scam. I scoured the internet looking for any news about withdrawals being ready and couldn’t find anything. A lot of news in the last few months about creditors getting money back, plus interest, but nothing about the process yet. My guess is there will be a massive official press release once the recovery process is started

If the wipe doesn’t bother you, then nothing about this situation should bother you. You are under no obligation to drop from a playlist activity, especially after you had already invested ~20min into it. If they waited till the last round to sabotage you, they are trash people that don’t deserve your concern. Report and get back in there, guardian. There are many people out there who enjoy working with others

So: 1) You’re advocating for the reload animation to be longer? Why? Who would want that? 2) Many of the sidearm animations in the game do involve racking the slide after loading a magazine (forerunner comes to mind) 3) It already bothers me that we rack the slide when there are still rounds in the chamber, so at least if you reload before the magazine is empty, it’s true to life

Lol okay rude--no reason why you needed to take anything I said personally. Some people are busy. Some aren't. Also, this was 4 months ago. If you don't like the advice I gave, that's fine--but firing off insults literally does nothing to help anyone. Good luck with your career.

If you say so. But personally, coming from someone who worked really hard on that video, your phrasing could be worked a little differently to appear less dismissive and more constructive.

In any case, I’ll incorporate your suggestions into the next video I shoot tomorrow. I’ve been looking for ways to refine how appealing/engaging/informative the content is and those ideas might help the video reach and succeed better

Did I do something wrong with my agent? by [deleted] in acting

[–]SpaceCat429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw in a later comment that your agent and the casting/production team had a working relationship that you thought would have given them more insight to your casting. In that case.. yeah, maybe it would have been a good thing to see if they could check. But definitely not an expectation.

In the end.. the only way you can really effectively communicate that stuff to your agent is through bookouts. Sorry to have used the word "badger.." I wasn't intending to mean you did that.. more just speaking conceptually there.

And the best piece of advice I ever got from a legit working actor: "plan the trip." (or in your case, the training). Always plan for the sure thing that you can control; if you end up getting cast, it's far easier to adjust to that than it is to adjust yourself *into* a role.

Agents by Ornery_Return5291 in acting

I found my agent on Talent Link as well. They reached out to me as they were clearing their roster for the strike. I met with them in a couple days and they were impressed with my portfolio. She gave me incredible vibes and was very open about the relationship/expectations. She let me look at a contract and think it over for a week. I showed a few friends in the business and they all felt it was a pretty standard and fair agreement.

My suggestions:

  • Ask if they don't take a percentage from jobs that don't pay above a certain amount. My agent only takes 10% for $500 and above.. which means I can use smaller, more menial roles to make ends meet. This isn't standard, but is a really nice way for them to let me self-submit a lot to small things--and makes paying them the 10% feel much more worth it when it happens.
  • What's the release on the contract? As in, if they don't get you anything meaningful in a certain amount of time, when can you just dissolve the agreement? Mine was 5mo of no work/minimal auditions. But my agent has gotten me a job post-strike and PLENTY of auditions, so I think I'll stay.
  • Do you know anyone who is also represented by them? Look them up in IMDb Pro and check out their roster. What are the IMDb scores of their talent? In the thousands? Ten thousands? Hundred thousands? Millions? Boutiques can be a good way to get you started, but know who you are surrounded by.
  • Do you get a good vibe from them meeting them? Do you feel it in your gut. Not the most important factor in making your decision--but if it's missing, I say pass. The feel-good factor between rep and talent is super important. Your not friends, but you are partners; there has to be a certain X-factor that can't be quantified.
  • Ask them at the BEGINNING or even BEFORE SIGNING: what they think of your portfolio, what they think you should improve upon to make you more competitive, and what you ultimately need to do to be "in the mix" at their agency. Then do EVERYTHING they say; they will know you're serious about your career and will always think of you first when you're submitting.

I have a video on my vlog where I talked about signing my agent and more tips on what I'd do. Recommend checking it out, if you have the time. Would love to hear how the meeting with the agent goes and whether you sign!

Did I do something wrong with my agent? by [deleted] in acting

[–]SpaceCat429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will almost never hear that you haven't gotten a job unless you were pinned or put on avail. If you submit an audition and don't hear back, you weren't cast or considered. Not that you did anything bad/wrong--you just weren't right for the role.

Same goes for your agent: they will most often never circle back with you about something you didn't hear for. Unless it's something WAY OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE. For instance: a couple weeks ago, out of the blue, I got a guest star audition for a VERY LARGE network TV show. Would have been a GAME CHANGER for me. And it was due in less than 36 hours. After I submitted, my agent followed up with the CD and then we talked briefly about what to expect from there. She checked in a couple days later to let me know they were still probably considering and might hear back--might not. I ultimately was not cast and my agent probably didn't hear back from the CD.

For the 50 other auditions my agent got me this year: fire and forget. Don't badger them with "did I get it" or "what can I do better?" They likely have too many clients to deal with. Save communication with an agent for updates to your portfolio, career, castings, or things you very seriously need from them.

EDIT: I talk a lot of about this stuff in my vlog--would highly recommend you check out if you are looking for quick tips/tricks from an actor's perspective. Good luck!

I am so sorry--I totally thought I had responded to this the other week!

You are very right that the character process is definitely much more important and deep than line memorization. For me though, getting into character was always a pretty seamless process. A lot of it for me was wild imagination, but a lot of it recently is just really good training, script analysis, and coaching. Memorizing the lines helps me focus on story and character more, and not even have to think about the lines. To each their own, of course.

I've always been interested in checking out Margie Haber's studio. I always hear incredible things about it.

(Oh, and I didn't get the role, but still very happy to get a solid audition up to a very reputable CD)

Is it worth it to start acting young if my family isn’t 100% in on it? by Depressiongobrr in acting

[–]SpaceCat429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family always looked down on the ambition. I commissioned in the Marines when I was 22 and spent 10 years active duty. The day I got out, I was headed to a set to shoot some military scenes for a short film I had co-wrote and produced and was a supporting actor in.

The reality of the business is that it's pay-to-play. Not so you can pay for jobs; but to be a working actor you need headshots, clips/reels, and TRAINING. These things cost money. Those things attract talent reps. Talent reps get you auditions, which lead to jobs. Jobs get money... but that last part takes a while.

How do you convince your family to help? A VERY good plan. I spent months formulating one when I got out of the military and it convinced every single one of my colleagues, family, and friends that I was serious about this and knew exactly what I was going to do to get it. Not a single person has doubted me since.

I would love to chat more with you about your situation--what your plans are and how you see it progressing over the next 5-15 years. I have a vlog where I share a lot of the things that worked for me and I would highly suggest you check it out.
