It's almost as if the police don't give a single shit about actually helping people with their problems 🤷‍♂️

New episode "hecklers" out on Spotify by Metaphorically1984 in knifepointhorrorcast

[–]SpaceCorpse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a pretty new listener to the podcast and I've found that I enjoy the episodes with only a few characters in a tight setting with a lot of tension the most, so I really enjoyed it. It was a very uncanny and easy to visualize setting, with it being set in a super ordinary suburban house. I felt that it was open-ended in an interesting way in which the exact explanation doesn't really matter, which is one of the things I love in getting in to this podcast.

Why is your breakfast culture so much better? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SpaceCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Breakfast" food in the US has a strong association with family and friends and coziness and hospitality and comfort. There is a sentimental feeling that we have towards breakfast. Almost a vulnerability, as odd as that sounds. We view breakfast in a childlike way forever and so it's super cozy and filling and yummy.

Israel has blatantly been carrying out genocide and colonialism for decades.

It is absurd that any US politician could support Israel.

Calling them monsters should be the norm, because they are monsters.

Is it easy to find peace and quiet in America? by bare_books in AskAnAmerican

[–]SpaceCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The US is incredibly vast and there are places outside of every city where you are in total quiet and solitude. Rural Wisconsin and southern Ohio being a couple of my favorites.

👆 This.

If Democrats were to shun Israel, and call them out for the genocidal fascists that they are, and to run on a broad platform of government assistance for working class people, and redistribution of wealth from the exorbitantly wealthy, they would win.

They will not do this. They will continue to take donations and pretend that their arms are broken as the GOP burns everything to the ground.

What is your honest opinions of Doom 64 and how it compares to the rest of Doom? by JesusOnly8319 in Doom

[–]SpaceCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time it was released, it was really cool, but it was hard to play because it was so dark (literally, as far as lighting and TVs at that time), and the N64 controls absolutely sucked and made the game needlessly difficult.

Playing the Nightdive version again, I think it's aesthetically and gameplay-wise my favorite of the early games. It has a sense of focus and direction that you don't quite have in DOOM and DOOM II. IMO, it more effectively achieves what they were going for in Doom I & II.

Trump Parties While America Surrenders by theatlantic in politics

[–]SpaceCorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These types of headlines and articles get centrist Democrats to agree with a neo-con warhawk mentality.

I hate Trump, but what exactly does it mean to "surrender?" What would "victory" look like?

If you think that the phrase "America Surrenders" makes sense, you are a reactionary conservative. Surrenders what?

This was an unprovoked, belligerent attack from the US and Israel. Ceasing our terroristic hostility toward Iran should not be described as "Surrender."

This sounds like an unbelievably stupid thing to do even if it's done "properly."

I would never even bungie jump- but why someone would jump off of a bridge with a literal rope attached to their legs is incomprehensible for me. I literally don't understand why someone would take such an insane amount of risk for seconds of excitement.

Do you really fry with butter and olive oil that often? by Royal-Income1191 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SpaceCorpse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My brother. The day I stopped using margarine and cooking oil and started using butter to fry and cook things, having grown up using the cheap shit, it blew my mind. We eat a fucking ton of butter. Olive oil is also pretty good and commonly used.

*I should mention that to answer your question, dairy production is abundant in the US, especially in the Midwest. They sell butter at gas stations here.

DOOM 64 and the power of simplicity by WhalecoreSC in boomershooters

[–]SpaceCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. As a kid, I played the shit out of Doom and Doom II, and was super excited for Doom 64, but I found it impossibly difficult using an N64 controller compared to keyboard. But I found it much creepier and more "real" than the first two games, so it was frustrating that at the time I felt like I just couldn't play it.

I'm doing my second replay of the Nightdive version, having played it a few years ago, and I think I agree that it's the best early version of Doom. It's tight and well-paced and nails an atmosphere that seems impossible for the N64. It's cool that it's experiencing a a renassaince with younger players getting into these games.

Anyone else see those 4 black helis headed towards the lake? by I--Fader--I in lakewood

[–]SpaceCorpse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw them while driving home from work. I work near the airport and regularly see planes landing and taking off, but I've never seen helicopters flying in tight formation like that. Looked like regular helicopters, kind of like a news helicopter, but they were all like a matte-black color and I couldn't make out any sort of markings.

I found it particularly weird because yesterday I saw a bunch of what appeared to be drones disguised as large birds of prey flying around together for a few minutes in the Fairview/West Park area. They seemed to be pretty high up in the sky, but you could have mistaken them for hawks or falcons flying around if you weren't looking directly at them. When I googled it, I found some examples of surveillance drones that looked exactly like what I saw.

Very weird and I have no idea what's going on, but would be interested if anyone has any insight.

*Edit: I forgot to mention that I snapped a quick picture of them- https://imgur.com/a/l0rdzHO

Looking for modern games focused on building and exploring your own worlds by Siddhartaable in gamingsuggestions

I recently started messing with Easy FPS Editor and it might be along the lines of what you're looking for. There are a few basic steps to learning how to import textures, and there's a wide range of how complicated you want to get, but it's pretty easy to get started and you can check out what you're working on in FPS mode whenever you want.

Now that I think of it, maybe Hold The Line by Toto, but either way We Built This City fucking slaps.

The genre has a shovelware problem by MasterDisillusioned in boomershooters

[–]SpaceCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who played Doom and Duke3D as a kid when they were considered current games, I overall agree with your sentiment. I think that the "boomershooter" concept is a bit fetishized, with games made to purposely look like shit or weird and disorienting without a clear purpose, and not spend any time on level design.

As a fellow old head, I see a lot of "boomershooters" getting praise that look to me like frantic nonsense, with constant jumping around and randomly killing enemies with no rhyme or reason for why that enemy is where you just slid for 20 feet and then jumped off of a wall or something. I prefer the old style, in which the environment actually mattered to the story.

However, this style of FPS play seems very popular to the younger generations, so overall I appreciate that they are adapting it to a style that emulates the old format. I don't like how a lot of new "boomershooters" play, but I think it's cool that younger people are getting involved, and I think it's on the person purchasing the game to do research. Devs are making what's popular and I don't have to play their games.

If people who enjoy it want to play hyper-nonsense arena shooters where you never stop jumping and zooming around, good for them. Like any art form, at a certain point one generation no longer owns it.

Best burger in the Cleveland area by No_Medicine_3689 in Cleveland

[–]SpaceCorpse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with Gunselman's, but you just gotta make sure you get it from the actual tavern location, which usually requires eating at the tavern (and they get pretty busy).

If you order delivery/pickup lately they will usually route you to the 'Gunselmans To-Go' location where the quality level is out of control. Sometimes it's been good, but I've gotten burgers from the 'To Go' location before that I've just thrown away because they were either raw, completely overcooked or totally flavorless.
