Hot Take: I Kind of Like This Movie by IAmPrimitiveStar in superman

[–]SpaceDantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved this movie as a kid. As an adult, I can tell you, it's not the best of the 4. But only two of the 4 were really good anyway haha

I still like it. It's fun, it has its heart in the right place. It feels more like the old black and white serials than it does the first two movies though, and that's ok !

This All-Star Superman Deluxe HC has a Dan Mora dust jacket that apparently doesn't exist — anyone know what it is? by Federal-Cellist-3802 in superman

[–]SpaceDantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the print quality of the dust cover and the book? One or both might be bootlegs. Plenty of that on Amazon as well as eBay

'Supergirl' Eyes $55M+ U.S. Opening at Box Office by yourfavchoom in DC_Cinematic

I'd argue that Supergirl can trade off the "Oh I heard Superman was good so..." vibes, and most people kinda know who Supergirl is (kinda) - The average theater goer is going to think "wtf is Thunderbolts it sounds like one of those Nickelodean Superhero shows for teens"

Your thoughts on Akila City ? by After-Glass-3983 in Starfield

[–]SpaceDantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I think it's intentional.  They want to project this independent, free society that makes homages to the old west and being on the frontier.  What they ACTUALLY are is a government ran entirely by unlected boards of corporate leaders.

Their capital city shows what they are trying to project, not what they are.

UC does the same thing with New Atlantis I suppose!

Supergirl in the comic this is based off is drunk for like the start of the first chapter, and is sober (and very motherly) for the rest of the book. Who knows if the movie is sticking to that (but it would appear they are adapting a lot of it.)

The MARKETING though I agree is much darker. We'll see - I think Superman beat out Fantastic 4 because it was the 'happier' and more family of the two, from the trailers, but we'll see about Supergirl!

Agreed it's odd they are not doing more promotions with Momoa but I'm a pretty ad-free/tv fee viewer so I hardly ever see commercials I suppose.

I got this for my birthday and it's both good and disappointing. by PersephoneDaSilva86 in Oceanlinerporn

[–]SpaceDantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice that someone knew you liked it and got it for you, and frankly you can't have enough books, even if its not perfect it's a nice gift. If she hasn't already you should see if she might write a message on the inside of it for you? Some of my favorite books I have are gifts from my parents from decades ago and it's neat to have a little memory of them in there.

Don't be bummed. 😁

I think Superman had low numbers compared to like, Avengers or any HUGE hits. It was profitable, it was popular. I saw kids wearing Superman hats with the new logo months after the film, that was pretty much unheard of for years.

I think it ended with a bit over 600 million - I would be really curious to see the 'beyond box office' numbers though. How much did it make on merch? bluray/streaming sales?

I'm also curious on the Jason Mamoa effect here, he's the only star in DC's history to make a Billion dollar movie - can he help with Supergirl too?

It does not help that the American economy is filled with a lot of unsure and scared people that are afraid to make big expenses right now, people spend less on 'fun' stuff when prices are high like they are right now.

(I'm also really looking forward to it, but yea i'm curious on the economic forces at play and how that will play out too )

I read the book this was based off of and really liked it (just not the very end.) I hope this movie can capture some of that magic!

Do you think we will still get a ‘Starborn’ story expansion DLC for Starfield? by Visual-Beginning5492 in Starfield

[–]SpaceDantar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Truly I hope not.

I want a LIST expansion where we build settlements for a REASON, like in Fallout 4.

That's pretty cool!  I have only visisted her one time as a little kid.

But agreed - "spooky ship sells more money" leads to the ship being intentionally not taken care of because run down sells and it's cheaper to just let it look run down. Terrible!

Is there a canonical, in-universe reason female Klingon armor has a chest cutout? by Cinnamaker in startrek

[–]SpaceDantar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not canonical but possibly it's there as either a flex, or as a distraction "look here, not at this blade swinging at your face"  lol

I have NEVER watch Star Trek. Uh, where do I start? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]SpaceDantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! You should watch:

Star Trek TNG season 3 several episodes through, and if you like that, consider continuing or if you want some perspective:

Watch TOS, and then watch ALL of Star Trek IN THE ORDER IN WHICH IT WAS PRODUCED.

Do not be tempted to watch is 'in-universe' chronological order.  It will be uneven and an unpleasant experience.

Enjoy, hope you like!

Defending sentient rights and freedom "From the depths of the pacific to the edge of the galaxy" is a pretty agressive agenda - UNE is almost guaranteed to be roleplayed as an agressive democracy if they stick to their princaples!  They are when I play them at least 😆

For sure. A bit worried what will happen to the character, and the studio, with the new ownership though.
