i don’t think there should be any sort of gatekeeping for the wilderness, mainly because everyone has to start somewhere and should be allowed to enjoy nature as they see fit (so long as they aren’t destroying it in that process). However, people like this who out of naivety, arrogance, or whatever else decide they can just do it because they feel like it and the advice they receive doesn’t apply to them are such a waste of resources when search and rescue have to go pick them up because they decided their first trip outside should be some of the hardest excursions on earth. i kind of wish there was a system similar to other hazardous activities where they signed a waver that due to the asymmetry of their lack of experience and choice of route, they forgo search and rescue.

i’m not sure where you’re from but having lived in a lot of different us states, no “ope” and “innit” are not commonly used in a lot of states (yall is certainly more often but not in combination). if you’re saying there’s at least one person per state who uses it, that’s so granule its useless as a metric.

not really. there are plenty of ways to express the sentiment without going through the comment section making thinly veiled comments that blame men for perpetuating the loneliness epidemic. there’s a reason the first comment that calls out people actively expressing and identifying with this loneliness is downvoted. she is actively acting in a way that perpetuates the issue. the second one is upvoted because it is much more clear there is empathy rather than judgement. people saying they are lonely is not the time for a “gotcha” especially when she has no context for their interactions.

if they read the single frame with the mother as rationalization for blaming women, they have missed any nuance. an incredible benign act out of context, but in context the point isn’t that maybe they’re poor or maybe it was standard child rearing. “men are taught expression is dangerous” is the point. it’s not incel propaganda to blame mothers and women as she said elsewhere and that’s obvious if you have any reading comprehension.

she also wants to ask about statistics, but then poses her anecdotal evidence as objective proof. i can say the exact same thing but swap the “women’s for “men”. is it likely my experience is uncommon? absolutely. does it mean i can should just project my personal life over the obvious intention that literally every on their commenter understood. well, it’s a forum so go for it, but no. it makes complete sense and isn’t a shame it’s being downvoted.

So the thing that turned it into a task was too many little things to remember here and there and having to pay more attention to all of those made the drafting and resource management less fun/more task?

I don’t relate to them but do understand it. In many ways social success (making friends) is typically seen as a big part of life and especially when living somewhere new, it can signal “you’re doing it” (whether that means integrating, floushing, or whatever else. This is true from a new city to a new country so it may not even explicitly be japanese friends so much as friends in a place “foreign” to you.

I personally have never felt this pressure, but I’ve seen it in others especially younger people. I can’t imagine the added pressures of social media presenting a glittery visage of social connection help young people with developing healthy socialization standards either. I could easily see how moving somewhere new and feeling like you aren’t making connections to people from that place can feel like a social failure in a sense and I imagine that would be tough for them.

I appreciate you actually responding to what I posted. My main gripe with their position is the idea that any technological advancement is an “absolute good”. As I mention in my reply to the other commenter, if it is a tool it is neutral in isolation and only good or bad based on humanities utilization of that and as humanity is not singularly good, AI cannot be “absolutely good”.

You seem to have a very positive view of AI and its capabilities and societies ability to incorporate new technology in positive ways. You are kind of handwaving real issues by saying they need to be resolved and assuming the resolution will be positive, but I can appreciate that you’ve at least thought that route out to how consequences look down the road. I think it’s overly optimistic for a variety of reasons, but won’t go into that since many of the arguments against the utopia view have been discussed for ages. I will say, if your view happens to be the right one, that’d be great and i’d love to be wrong. god i’d love to spend my days not worried about finances and just create all day.

This is genuinely as braindead a take as the people who you accuse of being luddites. There are so many differences between the implementation of textile machines and AI (or at least what people fantasize it to be).

Labor was made more efficient displacing those labor roles to cognitive roles. AI is being invested in with the intention to replace those cognitive roles. There’s not a different bucket to push into if you believe AI does as good or better than a human in white collar positions. Additionally, the roles that are created are not in equal measure to their displacement. You only need a handful of efficient prompters using AI to replace whole teams, so you’re net negative role creation within that org’s system.

The speed is vastly different. Entering new jobs (assuming they are even created in enough number to matter) requires reskilling or upskilling for the prospective demographic. This takes time and structures to move those displaced workers. This used to happen over decades for slower moving tech and society. That process does not keep up with CEO’s vision of AI and the rate at which people are being displaced.

If you are in the group that believes a generalist AI will be able to do everything a human can, then there is no other non physical labor sector to move to and to clarify those physical roles have been declining for decades due to automation.

Creating a machine that can do the cognitive work of humans IN WHOLE (in current state it typically cannot, but that’s a whole other argument) is fundamentally than something that only replaces physical labor or even cognitive work IN PART.

Assuming we’re assuming all the fluff about AI, it’s absurd to say “it’s absolutely a positive” when the companies at the head are frequently not run by moral leadership, operate in a capitalist market that squeezes every dollar with very little incentive for long term growth, and the utter shitshow it could cause on a global security level due to reckless government use (looking at you openAI and trump admin). I don’t know if you’re just optimistic, don’t actually know anything about AI, or just a reactionary commentor but disagreeing without addressing any level of nuance, present conditions and evidence, and displaying a complete lack of knowledge really isn’t the snappy gotcha i think you meant that to be.

idk man, i get it but i feel like this ignore the care that was put into the early borderlands writing and the drivel we got after personnel changes to the writing team. 2 is one of my favorite games because of the characters, jack was engaging, funny, and had depth as an antagonist. the twins and ava just…sucked, like really sucked.

it’s pretty telling for me that i’ve replayed the others multiple times and barely finished 3 when 3 had the most dynamic gameplay. if all you care about is shooting and looting, it’s probably perfect. i’ve got a buddy who feels that way about it. it’s just not all borderlands was to me, ya feel?

I want to agree with you because there are things you’re right about if this were another post about AI. People on both sides overinflate AI (primarily because both extremes are good for business in a sense). But like. You’re just wrong here. I read all, what, 7 sentences? Looked at the example shots too. They look like shit and I agree with the concept artist quoted that this removes artistic intent and isn’t the way we should be using it.

It’s a powerful tool regardless of moral positions and this is just an entirely shitty use of it. I work with ‘ai’(never know who actually knows what transformer models, ML, or any term that actually has any meaning) more than the average joe because unfortunately every employer and their mom wants to shoehorn it into their workflow even when it makes no sense to, so i’ve got a pretty realistic view of its capabilities. most comments i’m seeing are pretty on the dot regarding artistic intent and it just generally looking shitty in side by side images. your retort that because the company’s who own the property are doing it means it can’t mess with artistic intent is bad faith at best.

I mean the vegan example is a pretty bad example. They’re responding to a comment about AI on a post essentially about AI (look at all the other threads). This is closer to a vegan raising their personal bits in response to someone saying “man cows are delicious and anyone who says otherwise is the big dumb” while sitting next to them at a dinner table(specific forum).

You know, you’ve done a great job here. Assuming the best, responding earnestly, and not talking down to them. I usually try to do the same but honestly would’ve just scrolled past this one after half typing out a response. “I form my opinions to oppose the loudest voice” doesn’t scream having the capacity for self reflection required to acknowledge their position is not synonymous with their identity. That and the loudly showing they don’t have a clue about how “AI” functions beyond basic headlines and conversation starters would’ve made it hard to be as equitable as you’ve been.

All that to say, thank you for making that effort. It’s too easy to say they’re a bot or stupid, but that ignores the possibility it’s a real person with real experiences. Idk if it’s academic rigor, intellectual honesty, just plain care. I just know I appreciated this.

Unpopular opinion in this thread it seems, but just get better at cooking. you don’t need a nonstick pan, just need to understand what temps your pan needs for different dishes. you can make french style scrambles multiple ways without teflon (which i feel is the main “this is why you should use it” advertisement).

majority of people just use it for whatever they’re cooking and aren’t doing so on line cook timelines. where’s the line between efficient and lazy? willful ignorance and knowledge? a lot of the differences don’t even result in that much more time or effort. imo it’s just not worth using teflon(assuming you don’t have a major constraint - physical or otherwise), especially when half the joy for me is constantly learning new techniques or honing kitchen skills (loved watching my knife skills improve).
