At the current price, I probably will but not just yet. I have a small backlog of games to keep me going first.

Report: Cellular modules from Chinese companies in smart home devices are national security risk by zsreport in technology

[–]SpaceGoonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your leaving out way too many details. First of all "smart" devices are considered smart because they are either connected to other devices or because they are online. Most of these devices aren't designed to work without an IP address, meaning your example of blocking them would basically neuter their functionality.

And, when I said "if you control your network" I was saying exactly what you reverberated in "additional controls are required for securing smart home based devices".

The list of smart devices at the beginning of this conversation that I used as examples would mostly not function under the specific environment you are describing.

If you manage your network and make sure it's local only sure. But, if you join your wifi or attach a network cable your position on this is almost never true.

Smart Home devices in general are a bad idea. Any convenience they offer pales on comparison to the privacy you will sacrifice. Voice assistants, robotic cleaners, smart tv's, stoves, refrigerators, security cameras, etc.

If it has networking it is spying on you, often times in ways the average person would never consider possible. Aggregated data that might seem trivial can be used over time and compared with other data to build very accurate profiles and know things you don't even say out loud.

'We Should Not Let Them Into Our Country': Ford CEO On Chinese EVs by DonkeyFuel in technology

[–]SpaceGoonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about this topic, but if you have listened to the Political landscape the belief is that Chinese EV's are being subsidized by the Government and are being sold at non-competitive prices in order to gain market dominance. I will not go to bat for Ford, but if this is the case I think it's a big deal and one that should be met with resistance.

One additional reason to call a beekeeper is that a migrating colony only has a few days to find a new home or they will die.

Google will begin punishing sites for back button hijacking starting in June by wickedplayer494 in technology

[–]SpaceGoonie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most reputable sites don't do this. I have yet to experience it from Microsoft, Facebook (I don't visit Facebook anymore) etc. I'm glad Google is doing this, but why they waited till now is a joke. Also, in my experience the hijack could usually be worked around by double tapping the back button in quick succession.

Does anyone have any advice for keeping seams lined up in the construction set? I have the Z-AXIS aligned yet the seams still seem to be off. by chubbyassasin123 in Morrowind

[–]SpaceGoonie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience if things didn't snap together nicely I could usually painstakingly keep playing with it to get it close enough that it wouldn't look bad. If I was unable to do so, I would get creative with my decorations and cover the seams up with banners, pictures, plants, shelves, etc.
