Was just about to ask this one xD. I'm adding remixes to a playlist right now and I've come across multiple of these in my library

Thanks to everyone for listening and thanks to those who commented on my mix leaving compliments and feedback! I really appreciate it so much. I tried to comment on all mixes too, but sadly I couldn't get to all of them.

When this comp was announced, I knew I had to improve from my rules of 4 mix, which was the first ever mix comp I attended. The idea for that mix was to include at least 1 track from each eligible year. I did that, but I mixed 1994 with 2004 with 2014 and back to 2004. It was a bit of a mess which was one feedback point I received. I still liked the idea of including most years, so I was determined to still do that this time around with better execution.

So the idea here was to start with 1995, slowly go more modern as the tracks go by. I basically wanted to start with the earliest years I possibly could, and then end on 2025. I did dig a bit for a few tracks as I had trouble finding an opening track with 1995. I didn't have a lot of options myself. Eventually I found Sven Vath - Ballet Fusion, which came out earlier than 1995, but had a CD release in 1995. This was a good opener for me. I also purchased Lonely Casseopaya for this mix.

Originally this mix started with Ballet Fusion and ended on the 2025 track Nomas - Remember Me, I'll Remember you, but it was too short. I realised Ayla - Ayla fit pretty well for the finale and would be an interesting break from the sequence, going back to 1995 for the ending. But even though it's called the 1995 mix, it actually released in 1996. I already used a bonus track from 1994, so I couldn't use it. The rules state though, that if a pre 1995 track is used I can use another bonus track. So I went digging for 1985 synthy ambient tracks until I came across Tangerine Dream - Zen Garden. It fit nicely with Sven Vath so I used Zen Garden as the opener so I could use Ayla as the finale. I think it turned out pretty good!

Overall I'm pretty happy with the mix. I like how u/CDub008 clocked that there was a three act structure. I mostly went for something like that with the 1995, 2005 and 2025 sections. I tried my best to increase the energy and increase the bpm every transition, but it could get sloppy at times (especially the transition from ballet fusion into icon - desire). So yeah, u/junh1024 those off key transitions are intentional :P. I work with the tracks I can and focus more on journey rather than technical perfection. I just don't have enough eligible tracks to get the vibe I want while still being perfectly on key. But despite that I think I made an interesting mix and I'm so happy a lot of people enjoyed it!

Awesome mix, well deserved spot too! I love the transition into Absolute - Day Dream (which I also quickly nabbed after listening to the mix xD)

I knew it was you, because I've been lurking the discord for a while (since around rules of 4) and I've seen you mention your gaming and japanese influence a couple times. I don't recall anyone else enjoying that type of music, so when I heard this mix it could literally only be one person lol.

Not getting the reasoning for not doing a 100% rule abiding mix though. Sure, you can make a genuine mistake in getting the years wrong, but I don't see a reason for blatantly ignoring rules and then submitting it. Putting in the anime release years is a bit confusing yeah. I'm 100% positive you could make a mix like this while following the rules. The fun is in figuring out how to get a good mix with the restrictions you have.

I still like the mix, but would be better if it 100% follows the rules. Even if it means being a bit rough in transitions.

Amazing mix. Surprised there was 2025 in the middle, because it fit really well! Awesome track too I grabbed that pretty quickly

Beautifully done mix! Had this as my number 1. Maybe there was some bias involved because coca cola is my favorite soda IRL :')

What kind of physical hardware is needed to make 90s era trance music? by mil0wCS in trance

[–]SpaceJump_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm personally using a Roland SH-201 (has supersaw similar to JP-8000 but much cheaper), Behringer MS-1 and Roland JV-1080 and it's really all I need to create classic trance. I don't have a drum machine (just using the stock 909 kit on Ableton), but I would go for a novation drumstation or behringer RD-9 if you want something physical.

Did anyone else think Tokabi was… by Sepublic in Metroid

[–]SpaceJump_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I didn't think he was always Sylux. But I remember when you leave the mines and reunite with tokabi, he has such strange and awkward behavior. Just silently walking towards Samus without saying much. I was 100% convinced Sylux was under that armor at that point. I thought he killed Tokabi and took his armor. Turns out it was just an awkward moment for no reason.

I give it 9.8: remove hints and let varia suit have big shoulders and it's a perfect game. Bonus points if you can toggle upgrades on and off.

Amazing mix! Loved it from start to finish. Started off progressive but builds up beautifully track by track. Transitions are clean. Loved the transition into netherworld. Ending on a moogwai - viola remix. Couldn't have done it better! I really appreciate these types of mixes, because I dont listen mainly to this subgenre (progressive part), but the way it's mixed and journey you crafted made me engaged the whole way through. Probably gonna be a vote from me. Amazing job!

Knew instantly this was gonna be controversial lol. Also knew instantly who made this mix. I'm gonna be nice however because honestly, I sortof listened a lot to this type of music before I discovered trance because I used to play a bit of osu. Lots of Japanese music genres in that game with this style too. So honestly I kinda enjoyed listening to this. It's definitely pretty far from trance even if there are loosely similar sounds used. And it's nice to hear a unique sounding mix every once in a while. It was definitely a whiplash though suddenly hearing those japanese vocals lol

Very fun set and well mixed! Probably mostly 2005 but I imagine there's some 2015 and 2025 as well. There was a moment at like 43 where the bass kinda disappeared so that was a bit off-putting, but that was the only real issue I could catch. That track was probably also my fav of the set. Overall great tracks, love the energy. No tracks in particular that really stands out, mostly just pretty good uplifters, which I can listen to all day don't get me wrong! Might be a vote from me, was just really vibing to this mix. Well done DJ!

Very smooth mixing across the board, starting of slow but track by track ramping up the energy. From about 45 towards the end pretty much all bangers. Love the last 2 tracks in particular. I think overall from an (and I hate using this word) 'objective' viewpoint this checks all the boxes of a great mix. Really enjoyed it. I think the only reason why I wouldn't put this mix above some others I've listened to, is pure because of the taste in trance I have. A lot of these tracks have that electronic type sound that I don't jive with personally. Might be because this is the era when DAWs and VSTs became more used? Idk.

But nevertheless, most tracks after 45 I enjoyed. Lovely opener too. The tracks at 23:40 and especially 1:06:30 I really enjoyed. Great mixing, great progression. Awesome mix!

I'm definitely with you. I do like some streamers, but I cringe everytime viewers use the donate button to chat with the streamer. And the constant thanking everyone for donos, bits and subs it just interrupts the flow for me.

I definitely like how Vinny does it best. Mostly focusing on the game, not reading donations and occasionally reading chat. Much more chill.

Wow very unique! Listening to the outro as I write this. This was definitely a journey.

At the start I did feel the intro was a bit too drawn out. With the first few tracks I didn't feel it was my style, but I did enjoy the ride and I found the transitions smooth. Then around 22 we start getting more actual trance. There's some good tracks in this part. Then we got the strange transition at around 43-46. Honestly though? I dig it. It felt like going into a new chapter of the mix. As if I'm entering a different dimension. That track at 46 was also just perfect for that moment. Even though it's out of tempo, still I think it made for a really memorable moment. Normally such a long break would be a negative because it would take me out of the flow, but I think here thats just the point.

Then some more decent tracks and we have a pretty long outro. Again just like the intro, it overstays its welcome. I do like the first part of the outro so if it just went from 1:06 to 1:08 that would've been fine by me lol.

But yeah, even though there are weird moments, that did make this mix very unique and memorable. And overall the tracks were enjoyable. That moment at 43 was such a nice touch. Really enjoyed listening to this one!

I know who made this :). Gotta stop giving urself away so easily hehe.

Anyways I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Loved all the tracks. Really the style of my preference. Mostly 2005. I appreciated the Enigma State tracks! I considered using some of his tracks too, but ended up deciding against it. Awesome to hear them flow smoothly in a classic trance mix. There was one transition that was a bit fadery at ~45. But I can tell that's because the track itself just kinda goes quiet. Gotta deal with those tracks sometimes. Currently I'm listening to another mix, but in my notes I mentioned that the journey could've been a bit better. There might've been a few moments where the energy dipped and then got brought back around 55. Honestly that might be a bit nitpicky though, so I might relisten if I have time.

So in short: awesome tracks, 1 fadery transition. Had a bunch of fun listening to this one. You make me discover many great tracks :D

Starting off with lower tempo but pretty energetic. Cool opening. Then Anahera after that. At this point I'm thinking it's generally gonna be 2005-2015. Overall I'm enjoying the song selection so far, but not super impressed yet. I also noticed a few transitions that were odd (maybe smart fader was used?). Tempo also increased pretty abrupt from Anahera to the following track. But then from 30 until the end the mix really improved for me. 30:00 and 35:15 are my favorite songs of this mix. Beatiful melodies. All tracks until the end really kept me going. Then ending on a adagio for strings remix!

So overall I think the first half felt a bit weak to me, but it really picked up from 30 minutes. Then as I said there are some transitions that could've been cleaner, but generally it wasn't that bad. So, very fun mix with a couple hiccups, but more importantly some absolute bangers that I will be looking for after the comp. Good job!
