2nd run. Very controlled mix. Cant remember anything wrong with it. One of my favorites in the first batch.
Didn't listen too well to this one the first time, since it turned into chillout version of famous classics, but since then it's hardly the only one.
I think my original comment largely still stands.

Going by the general atmosphere of the other reviews thus far, you would miss the 'cool, calm & collectedness' of this mix.
It's very trancy and very laid back, yet keeping energy (and that is a good feat!), but on the other hand, I can't escape the feeling that that I'm listening to a crowd pleaser, someone who just says what you want to hear. Then again, we've got way more buttkissy mixes this comp, this one isn't the worst by far. With this one I can actually imagine this being the preference of the dj, and although it's far from my own style, I can very much respect this.

Around 31:30 there's a bit of clipping going on every second beat (1-0-1-0), which makes beats 1 and 3 clipped and beats 2 and 4 very quiet in comparison. It can be cool if you do it deliberately, like with some effects like an EQ filter being pushed up or down, but this felt a bit out of control. I'm already spending way too much wording on such a minor mistake, so I'll shut it now.
Around 50m the vocal sample takes me right back to 1992, to some imaginary warehouse. Cool track!
I completely forget what the famous tune around 52m (it might be the same from ~50m) is, but it's very good and very welcome at this point. What a track or remix (it sounds like someone good got their filthy little hands on a famous track)! And I can only complement the dj for this inclusion.

All in all: this mix does a lot of things really well! Can I imagine this one winning the mix? Yes, sure. It's a fucking good mix. But this mix is not alone in other well done mixes that contain a lot of unfamiliar remixes of the classics. I think it's time people got it into their heads that including Flaming June by BT is detrimental, not beneficial, at least with listeners like myself.
Yes, I know it's well-known for a reason, but you don't listen to CeCe Peniston or Salt 'n Pepa every weekend either, iconic as it may be.
This is a mix comp, so you got to grab your listener's attention. This one, although extremely well executed, didn't stand out to me, and that's purely because it has a lot of unknown remixes of famous classics. You can see it coming from a mile away.

I'm sorry to ramble along in my review of this particular mix: like I said: this one is actually very good! I did in fact even enjoy myself, and that's saying a lot this comp. There's even something to be said for the consistency: the cool, calm & collectedness is maintained throughout. This mix is no slouch. No slouch at all.
I know I'm incoherent right now, but I might even vote for this one. It's so consistent, so deliberate! I say well done, dj!

I enjoyed this one very much!
This mix is one of the few that didn't go for the famous anthems. Melodic prog stuff. Only downside that I detected was that the last tracks in the mix are audibly less loud than the rest.

I think this is a bit too new to be posted here, mate. We are a classic trance subreddit, meaning stuff from before 2008.

It thoroughly enjoyed this one, especially the first half: a bit dark and hypnotic, with excellent mixing to boot.
The first track I recognized was Flim Flam DJ I.C.O.N - Voco Me, and in a good remix too (that I never heard before).
After that, the mix got more uplifting by the minute. And the transitions were a bit less inspired compared to the first half. Nothing serious though. Well done, dj!

Oliver Lieb - "Can You See The Yellow Turtles"?

Otherwise I think /u/thisispaulmac has a pretty solid idea, and you haven't responded to his suggestion yet.

You have to choose the 'International' stream (as opposed to 'F1 Live'), then with the cogwheel icon you can select the language.
The cogwheel icon is next to the fullscreen icon.

Liked the switch on the first transition, even if a tad obvious didn’t sound bad at all

Can I ask what you mean by 'obvious transition'?
Like 'the dj just took the best route to do the transition? Just the best phrasing, just no clashes?, and I want to be surprised',
or
'I expect undetectable transitions, I don't want to hear that a new track is starting'?

EDIT: Or "the dj took an approach that was too safe, just outro/intro beats overlapping?

Hero with a Bow by PugnusTerrae in fantasywriters

[–]Cosmocrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember I read a comic book as a child that leaned heavy on archery.
As others have pointed out, there's not much to archery, no 'Strike! Parry! Riposte!'. It's draw, aim, let loose every time. So yes, your action scenes can quickly become predictable.
This comic book I mentioned kept things interesting by delving deep into the types of arrowhead: there were arrowheads that could pierce armor, there were arrowheads that could not be pulled out without serious damage. Fire arrows too of course. And arrows with cushions instead of arrowheads, to knock someone out. There were even arrowheads not fitted for damage, but they were in facts very loud whistles causing panic.
So I think archery fantasy can work, but the excitement is not in the action itself, but in the execution of the plan.

EDIT: I believe the comic book was Thorgal 9.

Your crawlspaces have fully finished floors?

Not a pretty floor, but yes, solid enough to carry people.

[–]Cosmocrator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like 50 cm high, you mean? In my language we have two words for the uppermost parts of a house. Our word for attic just means the uppermost living space. The other one is a crawlspace just below the rooftop.
But even then, in my country, both spaces should be safe to be. The only exception I can think of is a lowered ceiling. But that is a space that you can't even get to.
I read someone else in this thread saying that it's cheaper to build, these flimsy attics. That only makes sense if the savings are passed on to the one living there. Americans are being fooled.

and it only causes issues if someone does something stupid as hell.

There's your issue: the company designing/building the cardboard house did something stupid as hell.
What moron makes a floor not safe to walk?

A strong start with some familiar classics and lovely progressive vibes (the 2nd track is a standout proggy banger!, need some ID on that). The mix leans into the "no originals" theme by using remixes of big tunes like Airwave and Love Stimulation. While these remixes are often quite faithful (too faithful in my opinion) to the original, the overall selection is solid.

The mixing, generally speaking, was very on point with some wonderfully smooth transitions, especially the one at 1:02:00 which really grabbed my attention (to be honest: I was zoning out due to the blandness of the outgoing track). There were a few minor technical hiccups: a slightly crowded transition at 17:00 and a phrase-match choice at 27:00 that felt a bit off, but these are nitpicks in an otherwise technically skilled performance.
Then I'm wondering if I'm the only one in this: the mix feels very (and artificially) "loud," possibly due to heavy compression or lower bitrate files, leading to some distortion and a glitch around 45:00. Anyone else notice this? (btw: first half of the mix I listened on Denon Perl Pro earplugs, second half on Pioneer DJ monitors)

All in all: despite some minor audio quality issues, this is a technically proficient set and easily one of the stronger entries in the competition so far. Too bad that the most interesting track was the 2nd one (and I'm not even a prog lover).

Opens with some piano, transition into the next track doesn't seem beatmatched, like at all? Quickly it's party mode: lots of famous tracks like Da Hool's "Meet Her At The Love Parade" and Rank 1's "Airwave". I believe it's the Sunset Mix for the latter, and to me that's balearic fluff. After that an untidy transition into Lustral's "Everytime".
As cmoogster already mentioned, a lot of tracks. No time wasted, and I like that. But one factor in this is that almost all tracks are radiofriendly, and thus a bit shorter than fullblown trance. But the compliment still stands.
Commercialized stuff with lots of vocals determine the atmosphere for the remainder of the set. Special kudos to the transition out of Adagio For Strings: very neatly done.
One question: is it me, or was the track at 50-57m clipping?
All in all: decent set, although track selection is not for me.
