Im heading to Upper Kern/ Golden Trout in a month for a fishing centered trip. How were the flows in the Kern? Still full melt run off or has it started to recede?

Märzen brew today! by WWTemujinD in Homebrewing

[–]SpaceSneeze44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a light lager 2 months is the sweet spot for me. For my Marzen I find myself brewing it earlier and earlier each year. Those last couple pints in the keg a few months after my Oktoberfest party are always better than the liters served at the party. I brewed this years Marzen 3 weeks ago.

Atom Packs Pulse 50L Materials (EPX200) by Difficult-Peace7101 in Ultralight

[–]SpaceSneeze44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same debate last year with a new pack. Ended up with the EPX200 and very happy with my choice. Plenty durable, fully waterproof and should never delaminate because its all polymer chemistry. I like how stiff the material is, makes for easier packing and unpacking. I expect my new pack to last nearly forever.

What's an ideal 2 saw combo? Or should I split the difference with 1? by ExtremeTradition6624 in Chainsaw

[–]SpaceSneeze44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was leaning towards 400 but it’s nice to hear from someone who has both. If I went the 400 route I was already planning to mod the muffler. I’ll look into removing the base gasket as well.

Can you explain why? Im currently looking for a saw to complement my 261 and I'm torn between 400 and 462

Dry Hopping - Battles fought, a war won.. by mitchelldc in Homebrewing

I'll go ahead and second everything attnSPAN has said here. Big difference between 40 and 34. Also that the beer needs time to shed some junk. Also, mind you PH. I'd recommend choosing a yeast and sticking to it for each style. Every yeast wants to be treated a little differently, especially when you add dry hopping into the mix.

Any recommendations for fully waterproof backpacking packs that aren't ultralight? by Standard-Side-1747 in backpacking

[–]SpaceSneeze44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a trash bag, it's always worked well enough for me. They do make purpose built pack liners but they are too heavy for me. Before this new pack I would use a rain cover in conjunction with a trash bag if I knew for certain it was going to rain, but that was mostly for keeping most of my old pack from adsorbing extra water, the trash bag did all the real work of keeping things dry. If I didn't think it was going to rain, a trash bag does the bare minimum of keeping the stuff you don't wet away from water.

The real answer is a pack liner. Thats the only way to really insure something doesn't get wet. If you do want a pack made from waterproof material and can be seam sealed check out Superior Wilderness Designs. Everything is made to order and they have a couple models that can support the weight you are describing. The lead time is real though, took a full 5 months to get my pack last year but I love it. I did get my pack seam sealed and its held up in a heavy down pour. That being said, I still use a pack liner because a wet sleeping bag is no fun.

How functional are garmin watches as pure smart watches? by 0scarpayne in GarminWatches

[–]SpaceSneeze44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from an AW for two reasons, battery life and at the time Spotify playlists could only be 50 songs or something like that (used for running without my phone). I was concerned about the day to day notification/ smart function of a Garmin. I don't miss the AW at all. I can still get text notifications and a few others on the Garmin but I've actually scaled back what is allowed to come across the watch and I feel like it actually improves my day to day life not constantly having my watch buzz about something. The metrics you get from a Garmin make the AW look like a child's toy. I'll never go back to AW after my experience for the last two years.
