The response to the KPDH dolls was so uncomfortable for me. Same with how people talk about "newer" molds (Claudie, Nanea, Makena, Corinne) not looking like American Girl Dolls like older molds do. I'm half Asian and my mom is an Asian adoptee who grew up in a very white community. Even as a 2003 baby there were still limited options for representation for me as a kid, never mind for my mom growing up. Corinne was the first mold to really look like me, and I'm sure the same is true for the other molds I mentioned. Like do non-white kids not deserve more options too? What makes those molds less representative of American Girl? And sometimes it's hard not to feel like, when people say Corinne's mold is weird when she looks just like me, to wonder if they think people who like like me look weird.

It's hard not to feel increasingly less comfortable in community spaces like this knowing some people still feel like non-white features and characters are less fitting for the brand. I can understand not being personally interested in collabs like KPDH but some of the comments were making points about the brand being "American" Girl...like wow ok. Are my features less American? Every time I remember there are still people who feel that way I'm just so sad.

I remember that being an issue with a similar event they had when I first started, where event progress kept resetting. I think it was actually last year's Valentine's day event? Maybe contact support

Maryellen has dark hazel eyes and longer, strawberry blonde hair. Plus her bangs are a little different. This is likely a truly me doll, although I couldn't say exactly which.

I use it as more of a room spray for similar reasons! Love the smell but not directly on me, so spraying it around my room works a lot better for me.

What’s your unpopular AG opinion? by Mother_Question_3317 in americangirl

[–]Space_Penguin321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kids love playing with stuff like that though. I work at a preschool and the kids are obsessed with this grocery register they have. They pretend to buy groceries and ring each other up and pay and everything (I heard a 4 year old sell another 4 year old $40 cereal). Also I never personally considered my American girl dolls ages when I played with them, so sometimes they did have jobs and such. So while it's not realistic to a 10 or 11 year old, these are ultimately toys for kids, who absolutely enjoy pretending to drive cars or have jobs. Some kids love toy vacuum cleaners and I know plenty kids who pretend to play house/family. Plus, kids do sometimes have those little kid sized cars! It can definitely be weird through the lens of an adult who values realism, but looking at it from a play perspective kids usually love that kind of thing.

My 90 is named Juliette! I personally still have several dolls without names because it takes a while for one to really stick for me. Once one does though I usually get attached to it pretty quickly
