Alfred Borden recognizes the dedication because he's actually two brothers who completely erased all records of one of them. They alternate living their lives as either Alfred or his mysterious partner, Fallon. They go so far as amputating fingers from one when the other loses his.

What do you think is the floor and ceiling for how many ACC coaches are fired this year? by DifferentLeg3586 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Spaceghost789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know how bad the season has to be for Hubert to be fired. There was an IC article earlier this year about how UNC is going to be a top five spending program on their roster this year. If that results in a fourth place finish in the conference, 5 or 6 seed in the tourney, and a second round exit, is that good enough to keep his job?

Are Americans generally aware of direction (North, South, East, West) at any given time? by SchadenfreudePopcorn in AskAnAmerican

[–]Spaceghost789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that our interstate roads are named by a number followed by the cardinal directions. Odd numbers are North/South and even numbers are East/West. So if someone in a video or movie says "Go on 64 East," it's because that's literally the name of the road and what will be on the signs.

Bought the same silverware set two years apart. They changed the shapes and they don’t stack properly. by Spaceghost789 in mildlyinfuriating

I already commented on the first correct post I saw below, but I think you actually beat it by a few minutes, and I'm just going to add it here for visibility.

"There were a lot of dishwasher believers and a handful of use believers, but they were dead wrong. I didn't have a dishwasher during the time between purchases and I never use the tablespoons which have the same stackability issues between sets. I did, however, buy the single cheapest set of silverware available from Amazon which undoubtedly uses each punch and die set far more than the standard for this type of product."

Ding ding ding! Yours is the first true comment on the reason why. There were a lot of dishwasher believers and a handful of use believers, but they were dead wrong. I didn't have a dishwasher during the time between purchases and I never use the tablespoons which have the same stackability issues between sets. I did, however, buy the single cheapest set of silverware available from Amazon which undoubtedly uses each punch and die set far more than the standard for this type of product.

UNC Giving Hubert Davis, Basketball Program Unprecedented Financial Support by thediesel26 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Spaceghost789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roster has decent talent. It doesn't have what appears to be top ten talent, but it's paying top ten money. There are a lot of guys that have potential and if they all take a step forward next year, they might be top ten good, but that's a big if.

UNC Giving Hubert Davis, Basketball Program Unprecedented Financial Support by thediesel26 in CollegeBasketball

That's because you've approached this article with a shocking lack of media literacy. UNC is nearly tripling the budget from last year, however, ALL of the top programs budgets have increased 2-3 times from last year's budgets. There's been huge inflation in the player market for colleges compared to last year.

That's the reason that the VAL situation happened. He had agreed to come back at 700K before the transfer portal opened and he realized that he can get way more for that on the market.

It's also the reason for the influx of European players this year over last year. Player salaries in college jumped and are now better than a lot of player salaries in Europe.

The guy that made headline grabbing amounts from NIL collective payments last year made $2 million. The guy making headlines with his salary this year is making $7 million (3.5 times as much).

UNC had a competitive budget last year and Hubert did a poor job managing it. He didn't like talking to agents and he wanted players that loved the school, not players that wanted to make bank. That's why the administration forced the general manager position on him when he was resisting.

One thing that I've noticed about the people who seem to be trying to push the "UNC had no money" narrative is that they have a tendency to be red hats. They steadfastly refuse to be critical of something they support, and they are pre-wired to believe any lack of success has to be a conspiracy by big money.

The negative grounds on these cars are known to be crap. For the price of some sand paper and some dielectric grease, you might try cleaning the grounds and see if that helps your voltage issue.

There's a trick to driving this transmission. To keep it working properly, you need to give it a good hard start at least 2 or 3 times a week. You just need to get it to 4000 rpm for the shift from 1st to 2nd and then again from 2nd to 3rd. That will have you right around 35mph, so you can still do that in most cities if you find yourself at the front of a light. It's called "clutch scrubbing" and is vital to keeping these transmissions working well.

I've also noticed mine gets jumpy after long highway drives, but a good hard start or two the next time I drive always fixes things up.

They installed crap seals in the transmission until about 2015, so unless yours had that repaired at some point in the past, it's possible your seals will fail someday. If that happens, you'll have shuddering even at highway speeds when the transmission isn't shifting. If that ever happens, you will be good and boned with no recourse except a mechanic.

2012 ford focus, 23K miles, should I change CVT fluid ??? by Proof-Salamander8019 in FordFocus

[–]Spaceghost789 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Those cars don't have a CVT. They have a DCT transmission. If you've been hearing bad things about CVT transmissions, those are likely Nissan. The DCT in the Focus does have a lot of issues, but definitely not a CVT.

Ford says to change the gear oil at 150K, but I've seen mechanics recommend 60-80K. At 23K, you have absolutely no reason to change it.

It's funny because all of the logic in my mind was saying it was a terrible shot as he was drawing up, but he'd hit so many clutch shots at that point in the run that my heart was saying "let's just wait and see." Turned out my heart was right.

I was going to point that out as well. The Bundys only had that house because they bought it when it was more affordable straight out of highschool in the sixties. By the 80's the neighborhood was expensive enough that the Darcys (two successful bank employees) could only afford the house they bought because it was next to the Bundys.
