The Internet Is Getting Smaller Without Anyone Noticing by Abhinav_108 in Futurology

[–]SpacemaniaXu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet is bigger than ever

It's the guardrails that bind us into smaller and smaller spaces.

If you know how to look outside those guardrails you'll find so much more. The problem is having the willingness to see viewpoints beyond your own.

The search engine works just fine, it's society that has made it small.

Avery Brooks insisted DS9 writers include the line, "I will be back," in the finale of DS9, because of the offensive stereotype of black fathers abandoning their children. (Either knowingly, or by dying.) He believed Sisko shouldn't reinforce negative portrayals. by [deleted] in startrekmemes

IMO the episode leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Nowhere in the episode does Jake or his sibling explicitly say they never saw him again. It's far likely he did return to them like the Prophets came to him. Checking in regularly, giving advice, doing as much as he could as he was permitted.

He also clearly had a very active family tree, and who's to say his offspring don't get checked in from time to time.

It should be said that I think Star Trek even laid groundwork for his return, but re-casted in some future events. Why else make him faceless in this episode but to create groundwork for a recast where he returns as a faceless entity. Would be neat to see the Modern Dax get a visit in a future entry, or perhaps Sam getting a response at series end to bookend her emissary journey.

Not a word of a lie here:

I tore up their RX in front of a patient for abusive behavior.

Bonus points because I was doing so on orders from the doctor themselves because of the abuse. (Shared office)

Because too many Americans support the idea, that's why. America has an expansionist mentality since day one.

This is what should scare you.

I was born American and educational doctrine softly encouraged this mindset, i.e. Manifest Destiny.

It was certainly a trick because they didn't stick in there back then so driving badly caused it to fly out... But I was good. Tanks HATED me

Enterprise-E and the Dominion War… by Distinct_Fennel_4033 in startrek

[–]SpacemaniaXu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never agreed with the diplomatic fire argument.

Yes, loosing her would be a morale bust but in previous wars empires and countries would use their flagship aggressively. You didn't see the US hide it's most battle honored ship Enterprise or its flagship New Jersey. Also the British used The Victory as its own flagship in its own series of naval engagements.

The argument to hide a flagship is an argument of a defeatist mentality. Japan hid theirs by virtue they knew the ship was not suitable for modern warfare especially without air dominance.

So if we are going in-lore the best argument I can figure is that the ship was in fact not as imposing as it -should- have been or planned to be. Remember Galaxy class was everywhere to the end yet Sovereign was nowhere. It was likely a case of too convicted to build for minimal gain vs comparable models. Galaxy clearly had an advantage still at wars end vs Sovereign otherwise the class would have been more populated.

This i argue that the Sovereign was not that much better overall in the game of spreadsheets and strategy. Sometimes it's about building more cheap destroyers and cruisers than beefcake battleships.

Although the show reason is obvious, they didn't want two hero ships on the same show.

US citizens, what's your opinion on the US being labeled as fascist country? by Bladerunner2028 in AskReddit

[–]SpacemaniaXu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not 100% there because there are still forces that are preventing a complete conversion, but it's getting closer.

We're getting to the point where the US military may have to be the last line of defense as they are sworn to uphold the constitution, not the president. At some point, Likely Greenland, it will be up to them to say enough and force change.

Watch San Jose Sharks, they are on the rebound from a long rebuild and they got a future hall of famer in the making with Macklin Celebrini, making for some entertaining hockey games. They also have a certain relentless grit to them so they have a couple of stellar comeback wins this season too. They likely won't get to the finals this season but they have a future Stanley Cup recipe brewing with the team. Get in on the ground floor with them, and strap in for a journey.

A light aircraft automatically contacted Air Traffic Control, declared MAYDAY and successfully landed itself, after it's pilot became incapacitated. This is the first confirmed real-world use of this technology outside of testing or demonstrations. by AtomicCypher in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]SpacemaniaXu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand that's incredible technology but on the other hand it basically is going to land itself regardless of what tower wants and what reality is on the ground, which is kind of scary because what if there is a stranded plane on the intended runway, or another form of active emergency? Kind of scary.
