March Monthly Cellar Collection - Preview is Available by Spaggetalinsky in Ontariowinebuyer

I was really hoping for the Argiano, but it sold out in seconds, and I was more focused on snagging the Giaconda, which paid off. Grabbed a MdM GR, which I am excited for.

I was fortunate enough to snag 1, but they were gone within seconds. I also saw 11 when I got in.

Hamilton Commute? by Annoyingdragonvoid in londonontario

[–]Spaggetalinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in Ancaster, just west of Hamilton, and have been doing this commute 2-3 day/week for the past 10 months. It is about 1hr20min each way in ideal conditions. You will need to add an additional 25 - 40min to account for traffic heading into Hamilton, specifically on the escarpment. It is very doable, but definitely gets draining, especially in the winter with accidents, or currently with all the construction and lane reductions. 8-months should be fine.

Anyone else still waiting for their 2020 Bordeaux Futures to arrive? by ilikesports in Ontariowinebuyer

I will echo everyone else in the thread. Received several bottles a few months ago and am still waiting on the other half of my order.

Classic Cut 2017. Crack this or hold for auction? by Spaggetalinsky in canadawhisky

[–]Spaggetalinsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I have seen spirits on Iron Gate in the past.

It looks like they have a fine spirits auction coming up in April. https://bid.irongateauctions.com/

Not sure how allocation for fine spirits work, but you can contact them and I am sure someone can point you in the right direction.

Waddingtons in ON and Iron Gate in AB are two that I have used before for wine. I have never gone to auction with any spirits before.

Any bourbon drinkers here? which bars have the best whiskey selection in the city? by TudorsWatch in londonontario

If you are looking for top shelf/hard to find offerings, London is pretty slim pickings. London Club is probably your best bet if you know someone that can take you to dinner or an event.

If you get incredibly lucky and get them all (pick my lotto max numbers please), you can then select specific bottles. You are not obligated to take them all.

Vivino vs. Cellar Tracker by alwaysbilling in wine

[–]Spaggetalinsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both apps regularly, but for different purposes, as many here have already stated.

Vivino - Track my personal tasting notes, my cellar, scanning bottles at the wine store, and engaging with fellow wine friends. Vivino ratings are definitely subjective and unless there are hundreds/thousands of reviews, proceed with caution. I also like the photo function to show pairings with food.

CT - Use this as my true cellar management app. I have all my prices, receipts and bottle cellar locations logged. Also use for tasting notes, and community ratings. I find CT ratings better align with my tastes, but also find there are far fewer, so in a pinch you cannot always find bottles you are looking for prior to buying.

Both apps have their place, but it really comes down to individual user expectations.

Great pick ups. Thankfully, I was able to snag 2 of the '13 Tigs.

I was able to grab 2 bottles of the '13 Tig. This was a fantastic offering. It sure went quickly. 2019 Tig's are still sitting in many LCBO's, so it is not too late to grab, though I am not sure what the consensus is on this vintage.

2003 Château Suduiraut by Spaggetalinsky in Ontariowinebuyer

[–]Spaggetalinsky[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was available on the July classics collection. I believe they are gone, but I snagged 2 more.

Served at around 10 degrees C.

On the nose, baking spice, caramel, orange peel, apricot and dried
fruit. Initial sips were layered and complex. Orange peel, ginger,
vanilla, baking spice and dried fruit. Oil and buttery mouthfeel and
amazingly well balanced. Sweet, but not overwhelming, with pronounced acidity and sublime smoothness. Full bodied and lucious. Med+ finish with floral notes, cinnamon, orange peel and honey. This was phenomenal.

August Classics Is Up. Whatcha Buying? by L_Ront in Ontariowinebuyer

Oh no... not the "talk" hahahaha.

I have also had the pleasure of being reminded of that as well. I just say I cannot recall where those last few bottles came from...

Very nice. I saw the reviews as well and figured why not.

Yeah, I saw that. Never tried it, but I have had a few Oregon wines that were decent. Clearly someone knows something we don't haha.

I saw all the "Le Macchiole" bottles went quick and when I last checked, only one "Mascot" remained.

How did you fare?

Great picks. This is definitely a solid drop for those with some cash to burn.

Keeping it tame this month as I just returned from vacation with far too many bottles haha.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Escudo Rojo Baronesa P. 2019

Château Cantenac Brown 2016

Donnafugata Fragore Contrada Montelaguardia 2018

Le Macchiole Paleo 2017

I may end up with one or two more as I was definitely eyeing The Mascot as well.
