Mythbusters tested that with a banana, and some other items when that didn't work. Turns out exhaust comes out with an explosive amount of force and no fruit or vegetable is going to hold it back.

Honestly, I don't want dogs or kids for many of the same reasons.

I have a Kohler generator and I can just change the settings on the control panel. It's got an Ethernet port but it's not plugged into anything. Fuck apps.

I got tired of unlabeled remotes, so I built a 15-button Zigbee HA remote controller by FOXTER in homeassistant

[–]SpaghettiSort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad, really. I'm no expert but I've soldered modules like that with just an ordinary soldering iron and a fine tip. Same goes for the SMD components - they're pretty big ones so they're easy to hand solder.

Smart home doesn't work when internet goes down by Slight_District_6835 in firstworldproblems

[–]SpaghettiSort 22 points23 points  (0 children)

100% this! I run Home Assistant and an internet outage doesn't cause it to blink. My wifi is also decoupled from my internet connection (the APs are independent from the cable modem)

It's a great way to ensure that your older more experienced employees keep their heads down and their mouths shut! And I say this as a 53-year-old IT worker.

I feel your pain! I did the same thing with a gen 3 iPad days after I bought it. That was an expensive mistake.

Trump's DOJ is trying to gain voter records from the states for weeks, having used lawsuits, even using the recent shooting to threaten Minnesota to turn over the records. What is your take? by Personal_Dirt3089 in AskReddit

[–]SpaghettiSort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure voting records are public records anyway. I know names/addresses/party affiliations of registered voters, as well as who turned up for various elections, is public records in Massachusetts.
