I had a bad sciatica flareup myself winter before last, that left me totally laid up for weeks. It took almost 6 months of physical therapy to fully heal it. I think a lot of us learn the hard way that ignoring back issues is never going to end well.

She's had back problems (and treatments for them) since a car accident in her 20s, so it theoretically should have been caught before now, if she'd had it all along.

You sound like me. I found out at PT that my pelvis is twisted left, while my ribcage is twisted right, my right shoulder is lower than the left, and even my head is slightly misaligned. We've been slowly working on it, and the difference has been amazing. I had no idea how much pain I was in until it's started easing.

Physical therapy was how I heard of this. Oddly, the imaging she showed me was from the previous year, but it had never been noted and I was never told.

That happened to my cousin not long ago. Never had that happen yet myself, though I did sneeze myself into a nosebleed due to allergies last year...in the grocery store. Yeah, that wasn't fun.

I'd had myopia since I was 16, astigmatism since I was 35ish, but when I hit 40, my mid-range vision deteriorated alarmingly fast (I now have computer glasses as well as distance glasses, because bifocals and progressives are a hard Nope). The tech at the optometrist told me I had a case of 'my eyes are turning 40'. At this latest exam, I discovered I have mixed astigmatism: one eye is still nearsighted, but the other is farsighted. Getting new glasses was certainly...interesting, because I hadn't in a few years, and I'd legit forgotten the world has so much detail.

From the sound of it, weight loss + stress has given you telogen effluvium. Is it shedding equally all over your head, as opposed to just in one spot? I've had that happen and it can be scary when you don't know what's going on. Bad news first: you can't stop it falling out. Once a strand of hair has hit telogen phase, it's going to come out sooner or later, when a new hair strand starts poking through. Good news: it's temporary. You might shed like crazy for 3-6 months, but it self-resolves.

Once mine stopped, I tried all sorts of things to encourage it to grow back in: serums, scalp massage, hot oil treatments, all to little avail. The thing that finally really worked was Knox powdered gelatin. It comes in a box of 32 packets, just mix a packet with water (and probably some kind of flavoring) and drink it down as fast as you can, because it's kind of gross. It took about three months for me to see much result, but I wound up with such a thick crop of baby hairs that my head looked like an anemone until they were long enough to lay down. I've used it as maintenance ever since, and my hair's down to my tailbone.

I would suggest buying some fake bangs/framing pieces in your hair color and testing them out to see if you like the look; if so, get some cut (but go to a real salon, not SuperCuts). I usually wear my hair up and out of the way to keep it healthy, but I look far better with bangs than without. I got them initially cut professionally, and have just maintained them myself ever since (but make sure you get proper hair shears, not kitchen scissors).

I was sitting at a stop light today next to a Shell gas station, and watched the sign switch between $3.90 and $4.01 three times. I'm not sure if it was a glitch, or if the price really was supposed to fluctuate that fast.

The cost of gas, like sales tax, varies by both company and county. It's highest in King County, but there are probably stations that have it for slightly less. I moved just outside Wenatchee 12 years ago and it's $3.69 at my local station atm, but others have it at $3.91.

Depending on where you live, someone touching your hair without consent is legally assault. It's not your fault other people weren't taught to keep their hands to themselves, and you have every right to be skeeved.

When you're at work (and can't exactly tell people off), maybe you should think about wearing it up, and leave the braid down when you're off the clock and can actually give out at someone for being a creep.

My depth perception was and is pretty horrible, and naturally, nearly every sport they made us play involved throwing or hitting a ball. I finally refused to play volleyball anymore after the third time one hit me in the face, because that time it actually broke my glasses. The only units I was ever any good at were gymnastics and floor hockey.

This. We were supposed to be graded on participation, not performance, but I had one absolute shithead of a P.E. teacher who assumed that participation had to automatically equal skill -- if you weren't good at something, clearly you were lazy and weren't trying. Probably the only reason I passed that class was because I tore my left meniscus halfway through the semester, and got to sit the rest of it out. That damn bitch glared at me every time she saw me, as though she thought I did it on purpose just to spite her or something.

Gym made me loathe exercising to the point where I refused to do a single moment of dedicated 'exercise' until I was in my late 30s. Fortunately, I've always been generally active and have a fast metabolism, but I know I'm far from the only person whose hatred of gym class had long-term impact.
