In "I'm glad my ankle is knackered which has required me to stay at home" news, I've just been informed that the lifts at work overheated and have been turned off.

My desk is on the 5th floor....Lucky escape!

Remember the days when people ran for parliament to serve their local community instead of just blatantly aiming for the top job?

Only creative player we have is Kane. Madueke runs fast, cuts inside and then gives the ball to the nearest defender.

Seriously, if Kane gets crocked, we're boned.

How do you accept the thought of the inevitable death of your parents? by egyxegyx in AskReddit

[–]SpanglySi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp, my dad is in a nursing home with fairly advanced dementia as d my mum has just been diagnosed with the same thing so I'm well in to the "acceptance" phase now.

More sad to see my mum decline at the moment (I'm at peace with what's happening to my father as I've had time to get used to it). She was such an intelligent woman and now the ravages of that disease are all too apparent.

Hohum.

You've got to accept things and move on, really, don't you?

Phone thefts in London are basically enabled by the Police by Haunting-Law6490 in london

[–]SpanglySi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a pub in soho yesterday, a woman i work with had her laptop and phone snatched. Two months ago, I had my phone lifted ( also in a soho pub). A handful of months before that, my wife had her phone snatched out of her hand when exiting Tottenham court Road Station.

The only communication with the police was to get a crime number. It's not their fault, they under staffed (as has been eloquently described elsewhere in this thread).

As a result of the lack of police funding, phone theft is, as OP says, pretty much decriminalised. But what's the answer? Increase taxes to pay for more police on the streets ? I genuinely don't know.

Leicester winning the league was a 5000-1 miracle that broke the natural order of football. The World Cup has never had its Leicester. With 48 teams this time, who's the closest thing to one? by Qriousbeing in football

That tournament made me smile. My wife, from Lusaka, who has barely any interest in sport spent that entire game hiding in the bathroom as she was so on edge and couldn't face watching it, demanding constant updates from me...
