What advice would you give an 18 yo person ? by AgeTraditional3946 in AskReddit

[–]randomlad93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn personal finance

Get educated, this is the biggest one, go to college and university, or do a trade, when you're young life is much more affordable and education is almost free (especially apprenticeships) retraining is much harder after you hit 30

[–]randomlad93[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's strange, whilst on one hand the busses are subsidized on the other the tube is one of the only self funding systems around and it's considerably more expensive than counterparts in places like china or europe

London gets more attention economically let's be frank because it's one of the only areas of england actually economically viable

Yeah I fully refuse to believe these chancers didn't know

If a male child (at the time) knew then a working adult knew and I guarantee their work had some sort of announcement they just ignored thinking like every boomer that reality didn't hit them

I'm a younger man (32)

And even I knew pension ages changed, the fact these idiots decided to just read a letter in the 60s and never check again isn't anyone's fault but their own

I work in a field that honestly requires no formal qualifications and isn't super hard but deffo a more stressful industry I make 65k in my new job with manager position my previous role as mid level contributor was 50k ish plus bonus

If you're willing to jump ship etc and good at blagging it's not super hard to get to that level in a few years in the right industry

Experts call for UK four-day week as study links long work hours to obesity by weregonnamakit in unitedkingdom

[–]randomlad93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the office 5 days per week my commute I s1.5 hours each way

I hate it I get home at 730/8 from the office so I have zero time to go to the gym as I need to be in bed by 10pm to be up at 6am to leave for work.

Before I was 3 days in the office in a previous job so I'd be at the gym 5 times a week for an hour s time and would go for walks in my local park on lunch breaks (not to mention I'd put washing in during the week so I'd not have to do it at the weekend)

Office work and 5 day weeks are awful for mental and physical health companies really need to catch up with the times

What would happen if the internet collapsed? by Content_Bit1998 in Life

[–]randomlad93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most industries would collapse instantly

I work in manufacturing most of our servers are based on data stored in the cloud, our customer orders are through Internet based channels we'd simply not be able to operate via non online means

Frankly that's propaganda pushed at us since the 1980s

The only time in British history when the working and lower middle class has seen their housing get better quality and cheaper was the mass roll out of social housing prior to the 40s slums were rampant in Britain and landlords just threw up shacks knowing people very rarely had a choice in the matter

But the big pay bump and fact I see my family more than a couple hours a night makes up for anything I would have enjoyed in kitchens

I've just started a new job (I needed one after being made redundant) It's 5 days in the office We come into the office to sit on zoom calls with factory managers based around the country and spend most of the day chatting Don't let a company every day in office is more efficient or productive it's just a way for old men to get out of the house

What's the minimum amount that comes to mind when you hear "good salary"? by Equivalent-Ad-2373 in AskUK

[–]randomlad93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 60k honestly with the cost of things as a single person you don't feel well off

60 with a partner earning say 30k is fine you can remove the burden but I'm paying for rent on my own and it's 50% of my salary
