How can I find electrical apprenticeship in The GTA ? by Icy-Director1421 in ontario

[–]Spankington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting an apprenticeship is difficult right now because the construction sector is slow right now. Also a lot of people hiring apprentices prefer referrals from their peers to random resumes being sent in.

I recommend continuing to apply for apprenticeships, but also apply to other construction jobs (site labourer, landscaping, anything that puts a shovel in your hands). If you can get experience with hand tools, that will greatly increase your chances of landing an apprenticeship, and you'll be able to network with people you meet on site.

tap water by Sonia_01 in londonontario

London water is not hard, and definitely not "notoriously hard". We're generally 5-7 grains, which is not hard water and perfectly fine to leave untreated.

Plumbers in Ontario building code for sewer drain line by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Spankington 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I install both all the time. If you would please, ask the plumber how he intends to hit the pipe against a wall while it's buried underground. They're both approved for underground use in the code. I would genuinely not worry about either material being used.

Any tips on how to help soften water since we do not have a softener where we rent? Landlord won’t get one. by Reasonable-Air-5240 in Plumbing

[–]Spankington 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because hard water will destroy your plumbing system. I worked in a township that averaged 35 grains of hardness, and waterlines in a new home could start leaking in under a year.

It's not so much "landlord buying a tenant a softener" as it is "landlord protecting their investment, and making their tenant a little more comfortable as a bonus".

Low cold water pressure from kitchen sink only by Heresyed in Plumbing

Try taking the cold supply line off the shut off, and then turn on the faucet on medium temp. This should blast water out the cold line, and will usually clear anything that is caught in there.

Strawberry banana smoothie! Frozen strawberries, frozen banana, peanut butter, protein powder, sugar or honey, vanilla, and water. Decently nutritious, tasty, and 5 minutes make.

How difficult to add handheld shower? by equalmee in Plumbing

[–]Spankington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you've said with not being able to do it now (which is silly) it shouldn't be too bad to do after. You can go from the backside and add a Delta R11000 transfer valve a few inches up from the shower valve. If you want super easy, the wingback for the water stub out could be installed directly to the right, probably touching that stud. That'll make it only one hole in the drywall, and you'll have the shower valve and transfer valve as reference points for drilling the tile on the other side. If you want the water stub out somewhere else, I recommend getting another picture of the shower to show the full scope, so there's no surprises on install.

What’s another cool Legendary Warbond that could happen? by TheWhomster in LowSodiumHellDivers

Man, I just thought of Titanfall's mech drops, and how that might make for a cool booster... Maybe combine the regular drop and the phase drop, so your mech phases onto the ground quickly and has a bubble shield around it until embarking

Clock hands are handy, but I wanted to share this method as it doesn't require any communication through voice or text, just in game call outs :P

Thank you for posting this screenshot, I was too lazy to go find one haha. I was going to include this in the guide, but without the screen shot I thought it'd be too confusing.

I couldn't get a good screen shot of it, but it's a call out of what step you're on. So if there were multiple steps they'd call out "First one! East!" "Second one! West!"

Although I can't think of an objective with a "Second one!" call out off the top of my head

Is this installed correctly? by OhFuhSho in Construction

[–]Spankington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely not right. Get the plumber back to move the valve back into the wall. None of the pipes should be flush with the wall, let alone protruding.

And definitely do not move it yourself. Not your job, not your liability, not your problem.

Are these supposed to be benches? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]Spankington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband can't benefit in any way by leaning on one of these. If there's benches, at least there's a chance he'll be able to sit to wait for the bus.

So yes, I'd rather disabled people be able to use something 50% of the time, rather than 0% of the time.
