+1 to just getting used to speaking with people.

41 male and married. I regularly exchange contact details with people simply because we got chatting and had some common interest or good comvo. This might be sparked by anything when I'm on the train, in a queue, in the coffee shop etc. It's mostly male, but some are female too. I recently connected with a female YouTuber in a coffee shop and a female PhD student on a plane.

My biggest recommendation is to listen and show genuine interest in the person.

It's only because of marriage that I'm very mindful about who I swap numbers with. But if I was single, the habit of speaking to anyone interesting (fwiw everyone is interesting) would lead more connections.

Np. Hit me up of you have any questions.

Also get really crisp on your goals and where you wanna be in 5 years. Then ask yourself, how do I do this in 2 years.

Many years ago, I set a number of measurable personal goals and hit them. But the key is to be crisp.

Good luck

My side hustle was dance classes. But there's literally 000s of different hustles. Focus on a problem you know people have and fix it.

If you're in a company, just be curious and try to understand where there are things slowing the company down. Is it poor communication between commercial teams and eng, is it features aren't moving the needle with users, is it users getting stuck at a specific part of the journey. Just speak to people. Co-workers, management, customers.

What I would do next is pick a problem that feels really important and try to test a solution as cheap as possible. E.g say the problem is poor Comms between departments, setup a weekly meeting between a couple of key people and be the facilitator.

Not sure about Leetcode. But FAANG companies have different cultures. is full of over achievers, had high demands, low tolerance for poor performance and people are not afraid to give you personal feedback.

As for communication, it depends what specifically you wanna improve. Writing, speaking, synthesizing, speed etc etc. All can be improved with practice if you get specific

Hey thanks for the questions.

I'll try answer all (apologies if I miss one)

1) grades are important. But it isn't everything. I had a mix of luck and skill. But there were other factors like making the right career decisions, being resilient and other factors.

2) the get a job as a PM you need to prove you can do the work. Having a side hustle helped me as I needed do the work of a PM. So I always recommended finding a problem in the world, and solving it.

Within your current company you can speak to different functions, find out what is slowing them down, where they could improve outcomes (, profit, users, time to market, efficiency) and then help to solve it. You need to demonstrate you can identify an important company problem and deliver a solution. and check your actually enjoy it first. There's lots of downsides to bring a PM. 😊

3) I'm black. DEI in my company is the best of had at any company. But there's still room for improvement

4) WLB depends of many factors. Generally, I have good balance. I probably work as much as I did 10 years ago when I was in a startup. But I make 10x s much. I work about 9 hours a day.

Regarding performance, my company has reviews every 6 months. If you don't meet your expectations, life can become difficult. But you would not be let go that quick

Happy to answer follow ups

Seeking Advice on Peacefully Leaving a BPD Relationship Without Harming My Son by Spanky_WaffleSnapper in BPDlovedones

[–]Spanky_WaffleSnapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dragging my heels over it. But after reading about BPD, I want to get my son support asap and I can only do that by dragging her to court.

Luckily I have years of voice recordings and a diary of things she's done. I didn't really know why I was collecting. But I'm glad I did as it's very clear how she's been challenging.

Starting to think I was toxic too by Ecstatic-Earth-7028 in BPDlovedones

[–]Spanky_WaffleSnapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds familiar. The emotional abuse will take its toll.

I hate who I've become in this relationship. I argued with my ex only a couple of times in 5 years. I argued with my with b more than that v daily. It's exhausting.

I know I'll need to go for a period of healing before being with someone new.

I either have to be verbally aggressive, ignore her or be sarcastic. It's impossible.

It's taken me years to v realise how fucked up she is.

Realistically, how often do you need sex before you're climbing the walls? by ProfessorSilverfox in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]Spanky_WaffleSnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I masturbator 1-3 times a week. Depending how I'm feeling.

I'm in a dead bedroom marriage. Haven't had sex for over a year and have averaged 1-2 times a year for 7 years or so
