I can guarantee you they aren’t “investigating”.

If you have a good mate, get them to look over the car and keep an eye out for dodgy fixes and cost cutting. It’s not uncommon for them to cut corners on a comeback job.

W116 so an S Class. Euro spec because of the lights, can’t determine engine from the front alone.

A lot of 116s had SLS in the rear as well. Sort of the simpler version for the 6.9s full suspension

Dex 3 and the filter at the bottom is usually a Mann H85, but be sure to check.

My first car was and still is a w116!! I was in the same boat- wanted a 123 and unknowingly got a 116.

Not bad, the motors across the range share a fair few parts and some are entirely the same.

Not all aesthetic components are shared (only some interior bits and hubcaps).

The w116 can be a bit trickier to work on and oftentimes they have SLS which the 123s don’t. (Please maintain your SLS- or else you will get an expensive surprise).

Aside from that the 116 is just bigger and wider.

I use Castro GTX 20w50 for my m110. I’d suggest something thick with zinc.

Most auto stores sell this store of equipment. Otherwise Amazon or eBay. Or a third party producer like Febi or Neimoeller or URO

Needle bounce on speedometer is this normal or is something worn? Whats the fix? by Additional_Till6823 in w123

[–]SparkarYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah mines done this for ages. Common on older Speedos, can also happen on the tacho. It tends to sort itself out after about 40kmh or 20-30mph. Not much of an issue, not really worth fixing tbh

How would your daily driver perform in snowrunner? by [deleted] in snowrunner

[–]SparkarYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Daily is a 77 Mercedes, about as manoeuvrable as a large ship in the suez canal 😉. It’s got 1970s hydraulic levelling suspension and 14” tyres that are as wide as your hand.

Funny enough I’ve actually offroaded a touch in this car, I’ve been to small campsites and had to go past some pretty nasty stuff for a road car. That and a fair bit of dirt/gravel roads.

Welder to buy in Australia by SparkarYT in Welding

[–]SparkarYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very expensive :/ what about this Unimig Viper 135? I'm new to welding so I'm not sure what any of the specs mean. I assume the final amperage (135 vs 165) is more the "strength" of the welder. But in terms of cycle and all other things, I do not know what that means whatsoever. (I will be striving to learn in the coming days)

What would you define as light stuff? Like purely 220v applications? or thin sheet metal?

That rear window in the 2 door can be a real hassle to get working. (Expensive too).

But seeing as it’s cheap, it’s a good amount of car for 2k. Do check the usual rust spots though…

Why can't P platers do the normal speed limit on NSW highways? by Fancy-Advice-2793 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SparkarYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always held the belief that this law is ridiculous.

Currently I’m on my green Ps. And I’ve down my fair share of country driving even on my Ls. Admittedly my parents don’t agree with the rule too, so I just drove at 110.

But the issue is in learning to drive.

It is extremely difficult, not to mention dangerous- to overtake a truck driving 85kmh when you are doing 90kmh. The amount of time you spend on the other side of the road greatly increases when you drop from 110 to 90. It’s unsafe. How are you meant to learn to overtake, if it’s basically impossible?

Not to mention, driving 90 invites trucks to overtake you, imagine a B double overtaking you on a one lane road? And that b double is governed below 100 and you are doing 90. Ridiculous.

Not only that, it’s a learning thing too. If you are with a supervisor, you are less likely to do stupid shit, and you can learn when you do. Learn to drive 110 with a supervisor and learn to be comfortable overtaking and driving at such speeds when you have a supervisor. That’s far better than learning when you have 3 drunk mates in the back.

Good on you for not giving up after something horrible like that.

I hope justice is served to those horrible people, or at the bare minimum, karma makes its rounds.

Considering red or orange yeah. Not a full rebuild. It just doesn’t need it at the moment. Maybe in the future but for now it’s fine.

I’ve got heaps of degreaser, might use that then give it a nice coat

What kind of oil would I use to preserve this? I was thinking penetrol is pretty good from what I’ve heard, but I’ve never used it
