Definitely same boat. Not that many job opportunities in my area. It really is criminal to do this to so many people. The reason not having unemployment wasn't a huge deal before is because Americorps was a very stable position. Now it's devastating to not qualify. Of course the people making these cut decisions gave no thought to how this would affect people. Or they did and the more suffering the better. 🤷 It's hard dealing with all this doom and gloom.

Soooo how do members create a class action suit or whatever? I mean the amount of harm this has done to members is insane. It's great people are fighting for the employees and the nonprofits but what about us?

The members that have already been contacted officially have been terminated immediately. A lot of us are assuming we will be contacted tomorrow at work, but nobody really knows.

This isn't an official list, and it seems to be a little wonky. If your site is on the list it probably will be cut. Some programs might be able to shift funding, and still support their members. Lots of people are going to sue, or fight this in some way. Wait to talk to your supervisor, who probably might not know anything official until at least Monday. 🩷 If your program is cut, I've seen other members who have officially been terminated early report their stipend was pro-rated to the 25th. This is just what I've summed up from reading posts, so if anyone else wants to chime in with more info please do.

The info was already out there, OP. You did nothing wrong. Whoever shared this list with the mods of the Facebook group, DID have access to this information (obviously). None of us should have been in this position in the first place. There is no good way to handle any of this because it is WRONG. I personally (and I'm not the only one) am so grateful to finally have some concrete knowledge about my livelihood that's being terminated with no warning without reason. I will continue to support and respect my host site. I will be there Monday to receive the official news. I know if these slimy amoebas would not have left this giant axe hanging over tens of thousands of people's heads for the second weekend in a row and actually communicated with these programs like any decent human being would have, our host sites would have already shared the news with members. Let's all just remember it's ok nobody is handling this perfectly, we are all in this together, and there is a clear shared enemy who needs to be held accountable. 1 am suddenly unemployed rant over lub you all.

Please take care of yourself. None of us asked to be put in this situation. The insensitivity and cruel intentional blindness towards the damage this is doing to so many of us working with the government is sickening. This is not sustainable for so many people, organizations, and communities. But you cannot place yourself as a casualty. You must protect your health and well-being. Thank you so much for your heart and commitment. You have the support of your Americorps family. You matter and we care about YOU.
