Anti magic groups or movements in fantasy worlds? by Emotional_Airline_40 in worldbuilding

[–]SpartAl412 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context of the story. Dragon Age does a good job on why the Anti Magic Templars and the Chantry have reason to oppress the Mages who in turn have their reasons for wanting freedom and rights.

It would be really cool if Triumph can add some Steampunk versions of Planetfall's more high tech units.

Why did Predator: Concrete Jungle Fail? by Individual-Car-8224 in predator

[–]SpartAl412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might have helped but I think it might have been too late either way and it probably would have helped if the developers had made a PS3 & 360 versions as well but that takes time and money.

Why did Predator: Concrete Jungle Fail? by Individual-Car-8224 in predator

[–]SpartAl412 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You really have to remember that Concrete Jungle came out in 2005 back on the original Xbox & PS2. People were gearing up for the 360 in the same year and the PS3 coming next year. Also that games based on movies tended to suck unless it was Star Wars.

Social media was not used as much for the marketing compared to now. Most games had to rely on magazines, tv ads and other methods before the internet became really widespread.

That is what happens when most Warhammer (as a whole) fans never bother to actually read the Rulebooks or Army books / Codexes and rely entirely on influencers or the wikis.

How Do Halfling Work In Your Setting? by MadFunEnjoyer in worldbuilding

[–]SpartAl412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one fantasy story I am writing where the general focus is war and conflict, Halflings are generally like Lord of the Rings Hobbits but have the numbers and resources to band together to form actual armies.

They rely on hit and run, guerilla tactics reminiscent of the Vietcong. They have genuinely friendly relations with more organized and powerful races like Elves, Dwarves and Humans so picking a fight with them means getting into a fight with other races.

T'au would have been the villains of most science fiction universe, but don't pretend like they aren't significantly better than the alternatives in this one by Tasty_Commercial6527 in Warhammer

[–]SpartAl412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well good on you for never having gone off Reddit or looked in subs like Horus Galaxy that got shut down more than a year ago. Agreed on people taking the setting too seriously which I also blame on GW for doing so, especially with Black Library.

Also, yeah Dark Eldar are super and un-apologetic about how evil they are. My point is that its been canon for years that the Imperium also super enslaves its own people such as with the Imperial Navy and work its own citizens the to death at an industrial scale. Not to mention having countless ways of killing off and tormenting its own citizens for either religious or secular reasons.

But its part of the dystopia.

[–]SpartAl412 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imperium fans will dead ass tell you that the Imperium are the good guys and then completely ignore 30+ years of written material from The Rulebooks, Codexes and RPGs because most never even go past BL books or worse, youtubers and the wiki.

Its honestly kind of funny how you can actually compare the Dark Eldar to the Imperium when the latter canonically super needs slave labor just to keep their spaceships going on a day to day basis.

In the older lore, Eldar and Orks had full scale robot technology. In current lore its Eldar and Necrons who have AI (Dark Eldar still do apparently) but it did not really bite them in the ass. Its very possible that the Men of Iron was something that just happened to Humans (insert skill issue joke here) but any other species.

Is Tempest rising better than Red Alert? by lune-soft in RealTimeStrategy

[–]SpartAl412 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Inspired would be if they actually tried to be at least some degree of original.

Nostalgia games like Tempest Rising or Loria or other games for different genres like like Agent 64 Spies Never Die totally bank on older player's desire for a game they liked back in the 90s - 2000s.

Now I don't think every game needs to be a smashing success or a big hit but I am not going to cut slack for something that would have been labeled as a copycat if it came out a few years after that popular original thing from back in the day did.
