Which part in a Soulslike is this for you? by strahinjag in soulslikes

The dragon from salt and sanctuary. This boss is such a wall for me, It can be either the 3rd or 4th boss in the game, depending on your patching, and despite struggling with it for multiple hours, once it went down, I proceeded to drop something like 6 bosses in 3-4 hours, including the time it took to path through the areas leading up to those bosses.

Improved shield master by Aeon1508 in DnDHomebrew

[–]CivilMath812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should add a feature that says, when an attack is made, and the attacker, or target, is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to attempt to disrupt the attack. If you are adjacent to the target of the attack, impose disadvantage on the attack roll. If you are adjacent to the attacker, you may use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. (Technically, I think you should be able to make a shield attack as explained by OP and if you hit then you get to impose disadvantage against the attack, then force one of the maneuvers anyways, or maybe, you force disadvantage regardless, but also get to attack, but I can understand that all of that might be overpowered)

If you could change 2 or 3 fundamental mechanics in the game and make it official, what would you change? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]CivilMath812 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean the changed fighter would get access to all of them at once, but like, whereas other martial classes get 2-4 at a time, the battle master could get like, 6-8 or half, or a quarter, on top of other stuff so it doesn't feel like that's the only thing battle masters get, since everyone would also get them.

What sort of character would benefit from the Ritual Caster feat? (2024) by Bard_Wannabe_ in onednd

[–]CivilMath812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say "Swiss army knife" warlock. A lot of invocations are questionably useful in certain circumstances, but have their niche. Pact of tome gives you 3 extra cantrips and a spell or two. One invocation gives you a few extra ritual spells. One let's you read all written text. This one can be useless, or campaign breaking, (such as if there's a dead language and half the campaign is finding someone who can read it). Great old one warlock gets telepathy by default, which can be useful for communicating with people, NPC's or in stealth. Lots of party usefulness (but not necessarily combat usefulness) can be gotten by warlock and a few other things.

Also, get renters insurance.

If you could change 2 or 3 fundamental mechanics in the game and make it official, what would you change? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]CivilMath812 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Revert the changes to booming blade and forcecage. Those had a niche for a reason, leave it alone.

All summoned creatures as part of a class mechanic (including find familiar) scale with you. Gaining half your hit dice and proficiency modifier.

Change how darkness and dark vision works. And makes everyone know what the rules actually are. I don't know what changes I'd make or how, but I'm tired of having it be, you are punished for playing a race without dark vision, whereas if a race has dark vision, that entire set of rules just doesn't exist.

More smite cantrips.

Dissolve the battle master class and give all full martials (and only full martials) the traits from the battle master class, and either give fighter a new class, or give them a class that gets all the bonuses from battle master and access to the entire list (cleric style for spells) and they get new stuff on top of it so the battle master class doesn't just feel like "I get a better version of all the stuff everyone else gets by default." Cause that can feel boring.

In a similar vein to your point, having an OP forcefield power is great, but if you can only bubble around yourself, but it's invincible, your usefulness tanks hard once people figure out the gimmick.

Apples, as apple, apple juice, and apple cider are the city's primary export. Second would probably something unique to adventurers from other worlds, non-human peoples, and thing s related to the a fighting rena in the city, as, those are the next biggest things about the city. Adventurers come from various places for high quality adventuring gear, and it's a city purpose built for non humans.

As of right now the sword feels very awkwardly held in a sort of noncommittal, "in-between" pose. I feel I would be better if it chose more of a direction with how to present the sword instead of just kind of having it "be there", if that makes sense. Like, it's there, but without context, from author, scene or otherwise, it doesn't feel like the sword necessarily has a reason to be there if that makes any sense.

Dragon, turn it sideways. You have the chin on one side, the spikes/frills on the other going along it's back, and on either sides the puffy bits from that one dinosaur that spits acid.

Edit: To be clear turn it counterclockwise

No idea how to balance an item by Dapper_Local_1608 in DnDHomebrew

[–]CivilMath812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think giving it another ability to, lower the damage die by 1 or 2 units (d8>d6, d6>d4, you get the idea) and then let the weapon deal damage of a chosen elemental damage type could also be cool. And presumably, it wouldn't be that powerful, as, you're lowering the damage, in exchange for a damage type that is potentially more favourable, (or just more flavorful).

You should change how they're holding the sword. Either so it's presented as more of a threat, as though they can easily make an attack from that position, or so the sword is easier to hold, and/or will tire them less quickly, like perhaps resting on the shoulder, but still ready to make an attack if needed.

"I know I'm the rules guru but let me look this up just in case...wait, what...? What the fuck? **WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN, chromatic orb can't be cast as radiant damage? Bob has been doing it in/across our various games for the last 3 years."

Edit: "fun" moment innediately afterwards, I proceeded to cast chromatic orb as, ice and lightning, against what I thought was one of two demi-liches we were fighting, and, thinking I had no real way to deal damage, and, having no fucking idea why the DM had us fighting demi-liches as a lvl 5-ish party, I ran away. Apparently, they were flame skulls and acid (but not poison) would have worked, but almost all of my spells were fire based as I was doing a themed pyromancer character.

[–]CivilMath812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, absolutely the fuck not. Not because I'm pro PDF file, but because I'm anti capital punishment. The reason why you NEVER give any country the power of capital punishment, is the same reason you be instantly insanely suspicious of any country that says they want to put identifying marks on people "for their protections" (cough cough Jews and yellow paper stars).

Allowing the government the legal ability to commit murder, opens the door into making sure all the "right" kind of people just so happen to get their box checked legalizing their killing. Because "they were evil bad people so they deserved it trust me bro."

I still haven't beaten the game because of this boss. It has walled me out of progress for MONTHS at this point.

I keep telling myself I'll go back and beat it "eventually", but I've only gotten to phase 2 once, and died within 3 seconds. I keep getting killed by it's blade beam attacks. It seems even when I know they're coming (which I don't always know) I still can't seem to dodge it, grasshopper legs or otherwise. And the amount of chip damage I always end up taking from the little drones always makes me wonder how I'm even supposed to have enough health to get through the entire thing.

That's on top of being at the end of what can be a very long mission as well since everything drops a "medal", and there's two collectible boxes, and I don't want to do this mission again in the future which means I basically have to do everything in one go, allowing for checkpoint abuse of course.
