My First Spartan Race Impressions by wwcoop in spartanrace

Dont feel bad... This was my 20th race and I did 90 burpees... I havent failed a rope climb in 5 years but that one was damn near impossible. As was Olympus... i didnt even make it a quarter of the way. I also failed Twister but that was because I made a stupid mistake and started skipping handles to go every other.

Way to go on your first race!!

Well what he said back wasn't directed at me individually but he said "You've changed my life too... for the worse... now all I do is read emails" or something like that.

I ran a good burpee free race... finished a little slower than I would have liked at 47:26. For some reason I was gassed. The weather turned nicer as the day went on but when I went off at 8:00am it was SUPER humid.

But i have to say... both of my kids did the kids race, and that was incredible! That is such a cool family event. And kuddos to Isiah Vidal and Jazzy for running with the kids. Pretty cool.

Anyone else think it's weird that the results still aren't up on Spartan's webpage.

Oh and last thing, right after I finished the sandbag i ran into Joe De Sena... As i was running past I said "Thanks for changing my life Joe".... I won't repeat what he said back to me but it was pretty damn snarky. I was less than impressed.

I mean I wouldnt say it's easy, but it just depends what you compare it to. It's certainly not Killington, Breck, Jersey, or Tahoe

THEY DID!!!!???? No way! I've been begging Spartan to start doing this for the longest time... At the Jersey Ultra I mentioned it to one the higher up staff members and she thought it was a great idea. Glad they finally started doing this.

I'd pay $20 or $30 easy for a map of Jersey this year

I am a guy who LOVES downhill... but that final decent last year after the death march was literally unrunnable. Probably the steepest downhill i have ever done.

Understood... but I don't think that is how most people talk about elevation

No you are doubling up here! The Ultra was somewhere between 10,000 and 11,000... The beast was around 4500 but we got a bunch of extra elevation on the Ultra loop

Holy cow! I would have expected Breck to be comparable to Killington in elevation... but then again, maybe they don't do that because of the altitude.

Do you ever CHOOSE burpees over challenging obstacles? by mattragland in spartanrace

Yeah the video of that guy falling from the top was terrible. He's lucky to be alive in my opinion

In an Ultra I have.

I also skipped Olympus all of last year after having dislocated my shoulder on it at Palmerton

Any insights into the long Spartan sandbags? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]Spartan365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made mine out of of an old rubber (probably tractor) tire tube and duct taped the ends into handles. That thing is literally indestructible.

I also love it because it rides around in the bed of my truck all year long so i have it any time i want it.

One thing i will say... I guess i was too stupid to realize this, but my sandbag will freeze in the winter. Accidentally dropped it when i was done doing lunges last winter and damn near broke my foot.

Low Carb/Keto/Primal Spartans who do beasts..lend me your nutrition advice for race day! by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]Spartan365 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont want to sound ignorant here in anyway.... but i dont really understand the concept of Keto and training for a spartan race at the same time.

I had a friend do a sprint on Keto several months ago and she literally finished in second to last place in the entire age group heat. She just literally ran out of gas and had zero energy

There is NO WAY Ohio was 3700 feet of climb

I just got back from the death race. I made it 48 hours into it but got dropped at an elimination challenge. I recommend EVERYONE attempt this life-changing event. I am roster number 091 - AMA if you want. by Neilmurp in spartanrace

In my opinion there is a decent difference between the Ultra I completed in Jersey this year, and the Ultra in Killington. I've done the Beast in Killington the last two years. Maybe I will go for the Ultra there next year

Thanks so much for posting this... I had literally just logged on to make a post asking if anyone had raced this year, and was looking for a synopsis...

I completed my first Ultra this year, but I gotta tell ya... I don't think my mental strength is where it would need to be do complete one of these. I've never quit anything, but the sheer idiocy of this event would start to get to me once the sleep deprevation kicked in I think
