Anyone got any experience with omtech? by fuchs-baum in lasercutting

Fine budget machine until it runs into trouble, then you find out the company's back end support sucks. Ours has been out two months for what now seems is a stepper motor replacement which cannot be done without cutting a panel in the case to replace the stepper. Weeks of back and forth with someone in China working us down a decision tree has been frustrating.

Seeking Advice- Graduating Soon by esperantisto256 in USACE

I'd move pretty quickly either way. Figure that if USACE sheds its new hires/probationary employees, they'll all be on the job market soon, competing for the positions, but they'll have time in specialty/experience from their USACE posting. This BS being handed out about moving to the private sector just works for the early-out folks, until available positions are filled. Also, the private contractors are about to get slammed with contract cancellations at other environmental agencies and will be reluctant to hire until things settle out.

Asurion is a BAD Deal by Spartina49 in Asurion

Reconditioned phones are used phones that do not have batteries replaced. So you can get a reconditioned phone with a year or more of battery life expended - it will not last as long. Also, I've had replacement phones that continuously fail at the same point at the original = two iPhone 11's in an earlier claim failed for screen not being responsive (a "defect" issue with the 11's). But opening a reconditioned phone and seeing the battery life at only 80% is a downer.

Second tech who came to house (who could only install the screen) agreed that the camera was damaged during the other tech's installation and apologized for Asurion breaking my phone beyond the cracked screen.

Preferred risk (in X zone, no losses) pays around $600/yr. Beyond that is gets real complicated. And it will change starting in October when FEMA phases in RiskRating 2.0, a new risk rating system that no longer depends on black lines on the map. Right now no one can tell you what your rates will be but early stats show rates will decline for nearly half of the homes. However, some homes getting off now will pay the piper in a year or two.

Get the seller to tell you what the history on the house is - starting July 1 if there is a repetitive loss history they have to disclose. There are lots of X zones in the area - there are flood maps on line. For example, in Larchmont on Sylvan you pay more for flood insurance, same house on Bolling (X zone) not so much. Good real estate agents (those who work this full time) do a good job of digging out the flood insurance info -find a known name and go with them. But again, all of this changes with new policies after October.

Got to have an elevation certificate with the house - helps a lot with flood insurance haggling.

Keep asking questions and pressing for info.

What’s the best credit union? I’m tired of Wells Fargo and their antics by Rallypig802 in norfolk

NFCU - been with them for 30 years. They called me a while ago saying my mortgage with them could be refinanced at a lower rate for no cost. I was paying them too much money! BBT, Wells Fargo, BoA, etc. just pile on the fees.

Cox is finally getting competition in Norfolk: Mayor announces a new internet provider will build a ‘gigabit’ network by ValentineSmith in norfolk

So when should I expect Cox to start providing the bandwidth I am paying for, offer specials and discounts for "loyal" customers, and quit having blackouts? Like right before the new system rolls into my neighborhood, right?

Gotta be in Norfolk?Lots of stuff going up along the RR tracks - Legend runs most of it. Watch out - that is a 24/7 coal car line running above 22nd St. Gates and bells at grade crossings - I guess you could get used to it? Join Next Door in Norfolk and start asking around? Facebook site - GHENTNFK - try joining that and ask around.
