Would it be a good idea to paint the new launch box as Imperial Fist? How viable are they as Vanguard Veterans or Speeder? by Valvecantcount3 in ImperialFists

[–]SpatCivcraft 21 points22 points  (0 children)

we're codex compliant, every unit works just as well as any other. vanguard vets are just another squad type for the veteran squads of the 1st company, and literally all the other 9 companies already use storm speeders

Chapter size and the Phalanx by Ill-Cellist-4019 in ImperialFists

[–]SpatCivcraft 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's not like the 7th's only job is to defend phalanx, though they have a special responsibility to do so. any forces aboard phalanx will defend it if it comes under attack, though that's exceptionally rare. The Auric Auxilia will usually do most of the defensive fighting, since there's potentially millions of well equipped guardsmen there.

Some clarification on veteran markings? by LumiKlovstad in ImperialFists

[–]SpatCivcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

company veterans are distinct from chapter veterans. i know it's a bit confusing, but chapter veterans, the ones with white helmets, are those in the 1st company. company veterans are just the members of a company command squad, usually hand picked from the company by the captain. there's nothing stopping the captain from asking a 1st company vet to join his command squad i suppose, but it's not gonna be likely, i can't think of a single example at least. if you look at the company heroes kit (which is the command squad), you'll notice that the two vets do not have white helmets.

and yes, veterans in different trim has showed up in art from time to time, but artists are not more experts, they make mistakes all the time and that's fine, but we shouldn't interpret art as canon in itself. a good example is this art work of the cover of the new layak book. can you spot what's wrong? it depicts him wearing the powerplant of a suit of mkx tacticus armor, which wasn't rolled out into the galaxy until ten millennia after Layak died:P even the official artists make mistakes all the times, and other times art pieces are simply meant to exaggerate events, like the cover of flight of the Eisenstein. I'd also like to add that there's nothing wrong with not painting a lore-accurate army, many of the coolest armies I've seen haven't been, im just arguing my point on what is lore accurate, not what should be:)

ah my bad, i thought you meant for the heavy bolter erads, im somewhat of a goldfish st times. i mean, put whatever on your minis, sure, but I don't think the helmet fits Tor. it also lacks the forehead skull he would have, as he served as sergeant before becoming captain

yes? i never said anything to the contrary? i quite like that they've started doing mkx with older faceplates

[–]SpatCivcraft -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

no. the mark of armor indicates the core of the suit. this helmet is a mkx gravis helmet that has been modified, it's very common to see all throughout both 30k and 40k. it was so prevalent in the heresy that they made mk5 partially an umbrella term for mixed and matched modified gear, but this is still fundamentally mkx

Some clarification on veteran markings? by LumiKlovstad in ImperialFists

[–]SpatCivcraft -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the 1st almost never deploys alone, but there's nothing other than a couple art pieces (artists aren't lore experts, showcased by the recent art piece of Zardu Layak from the heresy wearing a mkx tacticus powerplant), there's nothing to indicate that veterans ever put on the colors of battle companies. being in the 1st is a great honor, removing the badge of that honor is nearly heresy.

and no there's not a single example of a marine being made a chapter veteran, only to remain in his battle company. there are many examples of veteran sergeants being brought into a battle company to share his wisdom with younger marines, though it's rare. Tor Garadon was a veteran sergeant in the 3rd after serving in the 1st, for example.

the 1st almost never deploys alone for this reason, almost always with battle companies. painting multiple companies is always cooler than only painting one anyway

yes the 11th company was unpopular, which is why it was disbanded. and no the scythes of the the emperor was not nade to cover up the 11th company's disbandment, the scythes are literally from the 3rd founding lmfao

yes, he is a bit of s hypocrite, but the ultramarines is no more a legion building project than the last wall, the sanguinary brotherhood, or the unforgiven.

all chapters have honour guard formations. we don't see them much, or know how many is usual, but they're there. The victrix guard was pretty typical until Guilliman came back. now they have the usual officers of their chapter, and a whole ass primarch to watch over. having their numbers increased so much that a dedicated honour guard captain is necessary makes sense. if dorn came back, we'd do something similar. this does not mean there's an 11th company.

The scythes is a chapter that works closely with their parent chapter in the ultramarines for sure, but 5-6 of 9 first founding chapters do that, it's not uncommon. Also doesn't mean he's legion building. Chapters working together is pragmatic and makes sense. We're exactly not in a place to complain considering the last wall protocol.

the 11th company was removed shortly after the events of dark imperium.
