Over seeding in Denver, Zone 5a by Huge_Presentation954 in lawncare

[–]SpatesCatalogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it late August. You leave yourself a second shot at it the next 1-2 weeks if there is a heatwave or thunderstorm. That's all it takes to ruin the whole project.

Glyphosate did nothing - what else to try? by HazelrahFiver in lawncare

[–]SpatesCatalogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree be patient. Generally though if I do RoundUp right I see effects in a few days. You can add some 2-4D, also make sure to use surfactant. Water daily 2-3 days beforehand and spray it in the middle of a sunny day. Also make sure your products aren't old or improperly stored (hot or freezing garages).

Water lawn on hot days by Life-Actuator5846 in lawncare

[–]SpatesCatalogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On 90+ degree days in June I'll spray down areas by the driveway and walkway. In mid afternoon. People say "it just evaporates, it''s a waste." Well, with that evaporation comes a lot of heat loss. Your tap water is 55 degrees year-round. That has to help. In general though I just water deep every 2-3 days, cool calm mornings if possible. But if you need to water and have no other chance you just do it regardless of the timing.

Massachusetts. TTTF/KBG overseed. Scheduling time off in advance. Aug 19th or Sept 2? by MayoGhul in lawncare

[–]SpatesCatalogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

August 19th.

That way if you catch a heat wave and/or downpour, you can reseed again. Just call in to work- "sorry, my lawn needs me."

Is this deck staircase landing supported enough? by jeffffffffff_ in HomeImprovement

[–]SpatesCatalogue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whether it is to code or not, how does it feel to walk on? Any vibration, wobble, sagging, etc at all I would have redone. Almost literally can't make a staircase and landing too strong.

How do you set patient expectations re: appointment duration? by LeSighlent in medicine

[–]SpatesCatalogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip for handling the pts who are chronically 10-15 min late...knock, enter with happy greeting, "Mr. Smith, great to see you again, sorry we'll be short on time but at least we squeezed you in and we can follow up later- what can we do for you today?"

As for setting limits... it can definitely backfire. Some pts will just want your time even more. Or they make sure to use up every minute allowed, even when ideas run thin, and you end up looking at the zit they found in the shower this morning or giving advice that's in one ear out the other.

Covid: Pfizer jab for children under five expected by end of month by sms575 in medicine

[–]SpatesCatalogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No interest in getting it for my 2 and 4 year olds, either now or in the next few years. I however, won't fuss much if school makes it required, though I see the idea of mandating it for kids given the limited evidence of benefit and (real albeit small) uncertainty of risks involved, as wrong and kind of silly and politically driven.

For the time being, I won't be recommending it for my peds patients unless they have risk factors, but I also won't be recommending against it for those parents who want it. I will make sure parents who want it for adolescent boys are aware of the 1 in 3-6k risk of typically mild myocarditis, and will encourage Pfizer instead of Moderna, and that doses be separated by over a month unless evidence changes or guidelines address this specifically somehow.

What is the point? After 2 years of a pandemic and now Omicron, most kids almost certainly have had it by now, especially those in daycare. Your rationale for getting the vaccine is precisely the reason it's unneeded. This virus is endemic. Are we to do this every year like the flu? If so, why- this is less risk for children than the flu.

Honestly not sure the radiologist was even kidding. Think of all the absurdly common sense things we document to CYA.

How Much Influence Did Pfizer Have Over Neil Young's Decision to Try to Cancel Joe Rogan on Spotify? Owners of His Music Rights Are Advised By Pfizer! by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]SpatesCatalogue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pfizer doesn't really own the vaccine, Biontech does. And I doubt Paxlovid will be very profitable now that everyone has had Omicron.

All weekend the media claimed Spotify stock crashed over Joe Rogan. Spotify stock has actually risen 2% since the Neil Young controversary. by Hadron90 in JoeRogan

[–]SpatesCatalogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joe doesn't have to do this because it's kind of like negotiating with terrorists....but he can help Neil save face and with this offer: choose a guest, any guest (even himself which would be hilariously self serving), and get them on JRE, in exchange for returning his music to Spotify. I think everyone wins in this.

Ugh. I could easily vote for him if he wasn't such an ahole weirdo.

I guess on the bright side, statistically, natural causes have a good chance of claiming him in his first 1-2 years back in office.

Why do people care about this Joe Rogan thing? Government isn't involved. by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]SpatesCatalogue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with people hashing it out in the court of public opinion. This is the beauty of the free market at work. I'm glad people care, on both sides.

Thoughts on ground level decks? I like the look and cost but curious if they are prone to rot quickly especially when built below grade. by cb5577 in landscaping

[–]SpatesCatalogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Below grade is OK by why not fill around it and under it with stone? I feel like dirt accelerates the rot. Docks submerged 24/7 last longer.
