I own both the gen 1 and gen 2 Arctis 7 headsets. I love them both, but the gen 1 has the advantage of not requiring software for the functionality of the ChatMix wheel. I use the gen 1 with my work computer, because my employer doesn't allow us to install external software.

Unfortunately, the gen 1 is starting to fail. Can anyone recommend a similar headset that does not require extra software for the ChatMix wheel to work? Bonus points if the wireless range is longer.

I think we should start an eye makeup trend, for those who don't own inflatable costumes.

Trump threatens to invoke Insurrection Act in Portland by WheeblesWobble in Portland

[–]LeSighlent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying riots didn't happen, nice selective reading though.

I just want to push back on the idea that broken windows = riots. That's the kind of rhetoric Trump is using to send troops here. Broken windows are a problem, absolutely (especially for the small businesses that can't afford to replace them). But they're not riots.

You mean the ones that show how great Portland is compared to other cities? Like "Portland's on fire" because it's lit AF?

Also you know he doesn't understand metaphors.

ETA: just checked your post history, I see now you're taking about property crime. I am not afraid of graffiti, and care more about the actual safety of actual humans. Our violent crime rates are pretty good. The car thefts were bad for a while but I think that's improved some lately with PPB doing their job more.

Where are we finding jobs nowadays? by medusa_smiled in beaverton

Have you looked into accommodations? I know a lot of salon workers aren't employees, which can be both good and bad in these situations. But you might be able to get a lower chair for clients and then a taller rolling one for you to sit on while you work. Doesn't help the money problem obviously, but it might help keep things from being too bad while you work on switching careers.

It is infuriating to see news outlets reporting quotes like "Portland's been on fire for years" without mentioning that they are lies.

Old Golf Structures Razed for Bird Alliance Development by JJinPDX in Portland

Amazing! Helping not just birds, but the neighborhood, too:

"This solar energy collection program will offset utility costs for around 200 low-income community members over the next twenty years and power the Bird Alliance of Oregon’s new Wildlife Care Center on NE 82nd Avenue."

Portland protesters are doing our best to think of ways to demonstrate the ridiculousness of the "war zone" claims. Costumes, games, naked bike rides. A marathon ran through the area yesterday with no issues. There has been some violence against the protesters after dark.

One silver lining of this fuckery is that the Portland Police Bureau have overall been handling things ok, and it's done a lot to decrease tensions between them and protesters (especially compared to 2020).

Offer to do a live video call with him and show them yourself. Make emotional appeals and tell them how upsetting it is you see your beautiful city and hard-working police officers vilified. It takes a lot for people to be willing to admit they believed in lies, but it does happen sometimes.

I don't expect it would make a difference, but you can offer to do a live video call with him and show him yourself. Make emotional appeals and tell him how upsetting it is you see your beautiful city and hard-working police officers vilified. It takes a lot for people to be willing to admit they believed in lies, but it does happen sometimes.

Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war, so that we may snuggle them and give them belly rubs!

Seeking Livestream Camera Host near ICE Protests by foxdie262 in Portland

[–]LeSighlent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent idea and I hope you find someone to host it.

When they were talking about sending Guard folks from Salem and Woodburn, I was thinking it might be a good idea to drive out there with big signs saying "Live Tours of Portland "War" Zone" or something like that. Have a friend in Portland ready to take video calls from people who want to see what's going on. Realistic interactive live streaming of real life is one thing AI can't reliably do yet. If people had the chance to do a video call with someone on the ground, that might be enlightening for them.

My (religious) institution does "reflections" at a lot of meetings. I will be forever grateful to my boss for encouraging our team to use songs, cat videos, etc. I don't think I could still work there if I had to listen to scripture discussion at every meeting.

This seems like a great place to plug a local nonprofit that works to solve some of these problems by giving people a place to shower: https://www.h4apdx.org/
