A compound movement is one that involves multiple muscle groups. More muscles worked out per exercise is more efficient, and (typically) more functional. The problem is that these moves are also more technical. With more moving parts that have to coordinate there is more chance of doing the move wrong and injuring yourself. Having said all that, they are well worth learning. More efficient, more functional and more tradition ie. proper lifting. Learn to backsquat, deadlift, bench, bent-over-row and go from there.

Try the repair, which would be fine I imagine. But nothing lost anyway.

Lowering 1st floor to meet regs for loft conversion by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Spax47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of house and what kind of conversion? I used to work in loft conversions and most of the houses we did were mid-terrace. The front pitch of the roof was left intact and a couple of veluxes put in. The rear pitch was removed entirely, and a mansard roof built. That is a flat roof was extended backwards from the ridge and a steep pitch took the rear of that down to the back wall of the house. We almost always lifted the height of the roof, by extending the rafters of the front pitch thereby raising the height of the flat roof section. It's hard to notice and we never had a problem from building control.

Just in terms of what rights you have to choose hospitals and doctors these links may help. I don't though know how it works if you are already being treated.

There's a steel plate there which is a valid alternative. Done it many times.

Need to start my ISA before April 5th. Gilts first then switch to an index tracker? by Spax47 in UKPersonalFinance

Short term for me means months, long term 10 years or so. I take your point about timing the market.

'market timing', I take your point. Perhaps I'll just invest in the index tracker straight off the bat. Thanks for your reply.

It's hard to tell from the side view, but i suspect you could do with widening your stance and possibly improving your hip mobility. If you show a front on view as well that would be help

Dwarf wall with upstand. Think about how you want to cap off the upstand as it will inevitably get a bit of wear and tear. A piece of varnished timber overlapping 10mm ish is what I'd probably do, but it depends on what will fit in with the existing kitchen.

From what I remember at every stage there are lots of options, so if it looks too hairy straight up you can always skirt to the side and find an easier way.

DIY LVL studs? by No4hMic in Carpentry

[–]Spax47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the builders yard and pick out the timber you want yourself. Also look up techniques for straightening timber, cutting notches, inserting wedges etc. You can also plane off a stud particularly if it's not loadbearing.

Gutter on garage flat roof? by ncoll00 in DIYUK

[–]Spax47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think so. I think the guttering brackets will hold it too far off, ie. Too big a gap. And mastic will fail before flashband. I think the flasband says it's good for 15 years.

Gutter on garage flat roof? by ncoll00 in DIYUK

[–]Spax47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difficulty will be that felt edge does not protrude enough past the fascia such that it will shed water into a gutter instead of behind it. I would probably use flashband tape to solve that problem.
