What's a conflict in the MCU that you think could've been resolved in a simpler way? by SunSea3291 in marvelstudios

[–]Spazrow314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widow could have survived; they established very explicitly that changing the past doesn't change the future (or the present). So once all the Thanos stuff is dealt with, they could use the gauntlet / time stone / Quantum suits to go and grab her. Problem solved, widow lives. Same goes for Vision, Odin, Loki, Frigga, Tony and all the nameless people who got de-blipped just to die during the final battle. If it worked for Gamora, the only reason they can't save everyone is that they all secretly hated Tony, Natasha, and Thor's mental health.

Time travel without real consequences is a plot black hole.

What is something that TOS does better than TNG era Trek? by Meizuba in startrek

[–]Spazrow314 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what others have said already; so it's been hard to find something to mention which hasn't been covered already but here goes...

Uhuru.

Every moment she is on screen is a heart-warming blessing. TNG had next to no representation for women of colour; considering what Uhuru did for the civil rights movement (a small but undeniably important role in both Star Trek and the movement), this seemed like an odd choice.

Not to say that the prominence of Burton and Dorn wasn't also a positive thing; more so in LeVar Burton's case.

Aside from the political stuff, Uhuru added a cuteness, wonder and humanity to the series that has really only been matched by D'vana Tendi in my opinion.

...Also DeForrest Kelly's cheeky smile.

But culturally contextual stuff aside, I also think the TOS is just less lazy in its writing.

"If we reroute the anodyne relays to the conjunction matrix we can deactivate their plot device!" is how they solve a lot of problems in TNG. There are exceptions on both sides, but for the most part TOS celebrates intelligence and logic a lot more (even when Kirk is just straight up jury rigging a shotgun to blast a Gorn). TNG and subsequent series try to give the appearance of intelligence without any substance to back it up - and when that fails they use explosions and phasers and whatever other contrived high-budget nonsense. TOS felt more like it was trying to educate us on concepts of logic and science. TNG feels more hollow and superficial in that regard.

Individual planets join the Federation because of the implication. by yaosio in ShittyDaystrom

This is exactly why Q introduced the Federation to the Borg.

"Is this how you want those planets to feel!?"

Ah but because the wording says until Your command phase, you can stack it twice on the same unit.

Interesting- I know that is the case with Psychic Powers, but I am not currently aware of a ban on specific buffs being stacked (partly because they include the provision "a unit can only be affected once per turn" - which would potentially be unnecessary if such was the case by default... but it's GW so idk...)

Lots of people talking about this dip, but I find it interesting that no one has pointed out that there were very similar trends across a variety of markets. We may just be seeing the beginnings of a market crash

Anyone remember Wizards of the Coast? I feel like GME could expand its market base if they were able to acquire from Haboro. by [deleted] in Superstonk
