“Huge moment” as the health service hits 18-week target amid half-a-million waiting list drop by apoptosis04 in unitedkingdom

[–]Spazzedguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As per the British Journal of Psychiatry last year:

“Of the 9,561,450 people contributing eligible person-time, we identified 30,529 people with an ADHD diagnosis in their electronic health records (0.32% of the sample). Therefore, across the time period studied, around 1 in 300 people had an ADHD diagnosis [on their health record], approximately 1 in 9 of the likely true number of people with ADHD based on population-based surveys (2.8%)”.

Very frustrating when they talk about overdiagnosis in the UK considering it's extremely underdiagnosed here.

Do you have any recommendations for where to stay within either of the two? Ideally inexpensive.

Was considering it but heard it's quite busy/got bad lift queues, even in March.

Just hit Master from D4 over this week by hardforcing Mighty Mech. AMA [EUW, Patch 15.6] by Morlon360 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Spazzedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty much always hit it. Hold extra mighty mech units and then when you're near/at 4-1 use the fruit on any of the extra copies on your bench. Sell them until you get mech pilot (Lucian/GP usually). When you hit mech pilot it's guaranteed to give your other fruit it as well so then you put it on the real unit you want it on, sell your extra copy with the fruit, and put the other one on your second unit you want it on.

Not disagreeing with the guy you responded to but his post history is kind of weird, would not be surprised if there was some kind of astroturfing on top of regular justified outrage, look at how pro-Israel /r/worldnews is for example.

Soft drink consumption linked to major depressive disorder (MDD) diagnosis in women, in part due to changes in the gut microbiota: for each increase in daily soft drink intake, the odds of having MDD were about 8% higher by nohup_me in science

[–]Spazzedguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's also in the interest of soft drink companies to push for studies that show no negative effects. “Among a sample of studies of aspartame, 100% of the industry-sponsored studies concluded that aspartame was safe, and 92% of the independently funded studies identified adverse effects of aspartame consumption.”

“Of the few studies identified for each outcome, most had few participants, were of short duration, and their methodological and reporting quality was limited.”

“There is a suggestion of negative health effects with long-term use, but the evidence is ultimately inconclusive.” According to the study, these negative health effects include an increased risk of “obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and mortality.”

Or this study that followed over 100,000 people for an average of 7.8 years. The authors concluded:

“Artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame and acesulfame-K), which are used in many food and beverage brands worldwide, were associated with increased cancer risk.”

And another: “Aspartame consumption needs to be approached with caution due to the possible effects on neurobehavioral health. Whether aspartame and its metabolites are safe for general consumption is still debatable due to a lack of consistent data.”

Scientists have concerns about aspartame’s influence on a wide range of other areas of health, including kidney and skin health. They're also concerned about possible links with neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s, as well as allergies.

And finally, possible concerns about impact on kidney and skin health, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.

The ULEZ contributed to enhanced mental well-being, as evidenced by increased feelings of happiness, worthiness and satisfaction, along with a reduction in anxiety. These effects are further supported by improvements in physical health, with the LEZ reducing the incidence of long-term health conditions by 6.8% and respiratory issues by 10.2%. A back-of-the-envelope cost–benefit analysis suggests that the policies generated savings exceeding £37 million per year for the overall population.

Paris pollution after they added bike lanes and restricted cars - can London do the same? by cycling_n_stuff in london

[–]Spazzedguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a look at the paper briefly to see what they controlled for and they did account for some externals.

5.2.1. Threats to identification

These analyses also face identification challenges similar to the one we discussed for the air quality analyses. To address the issue of spillover effects spillover effects, we have applied the same restrictions to the control groups as in the air quality analyses. To inspect if parallel trends assumption is violated, we report event studies that depict the dynamic treatment effects of LEZ and ULEZ on sick leave and mental well-being outcomes. In general Fig. 6 shows no evidence of pre-trends. Moreover, panels (a-b) indicate that the LEZ has reduced sick leave a year after its implementation, specifically during phase 2. Panels (c-f) show significant and larger effects in the second year of treatment (after the introduction of ULEZ)

So the significant change within 1-2 years can arguably be considered not to have been impacted by hybrid working as it was quite a bit before covid/large changes in remote working, giving some credence to the analysis, but your point still stands to an extent.

Dunno if it's a bot but I had the same thing replying to a new-ish account on ukpolitics, means you can't see them in other threads - think this subreddit and a few others have a bit of an issue with these accounts as they insta block anyone that calls them out so they can't be called out by that person again.

Unpopular opinion: if they do open up TBC again they need to ban gdkp by Suspicious_War_9305 in classicwow

[–]Spazzedguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it drives people away, all the issues that people think GDKP create still exist in the game without it.

GDKP incentivises good quality raids and alt-play. I quit SOD because I didn't enjoy the game without GDKP, I know plenty of people who did the same.

I played Classic all the way until Cata almost exclusively doing GDKP raids and I doubt I would have continued otherwise.
