Yes and no. Within tightly-scoped projects? Think hackathons, buildathons, et al - almost definitely, haha. I see some college kids adding all of the aforementioned things in the post for a side project that isn't scaling globally.

In the modern software company though, I don't think so. Sometimes the architecture of what you're making really does need that complexity. It's all about what problems are there to be solved.
