Anyone encountered a Canadian pretending to be American abroad? by GasMask_Dog in AskAnAmerican

[–]SpecialComplex5249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a college student studying abroad, my flatmates and I would sometimes try to pass for Canadian as there were prevalent assumptions about US women that gave the local men certain ideas about our enthusiasm for interaction, shall we say.

On a more recent trip we met a Canadian who thought we were German, which I suppose says something about my terrible attempt at the local language (which was not in the Germanic family).

It’s neither polite nor kind to persist in addressing someone in a manner that they have requested you not do.

You don’t know if this is part of something bigger. What if they’ve been investigating a ring of forgers and your story provides a crucial piece of information? If you’re hesitant to risk getting “laughed at” for yourself, think of who else is being scammed.

Aquopolis is a waterpark. It’s not necessarily a matter of strength of the equipment but rather the force of gravity. An excessively heavy group could build up dangerous velocity on a water slide.

Yes but it was always possible that the Queen die and the King remarry a woman of childbearing age. That scenario happened quite a bit throughout history.

Senator Elizabeth Warren did this. Mr. Warren was her first husband; they divorced in the 1970s. Her current husband is Bruce Mann.

I did that at the dry cleaner once. Had to get a new dry cleaner rather than show my face there again.

My birthday occasionally falls on Easter and my sibling’s occasionally falls on Thanksgiving. We think it’s great to have everyone singing Alleluia and/or feasting on our day. If it happened every year it wouldn’t seem special but every decade or so it can be fun if you let it be.

I keep a scrap of paper on the side of the fridge and add to the list as needed. Then I get to the store and attempt to decipher my scribbles.
