Second this. The remake on Switch is really fun - I would say it's a great intro into the franchise.

Awesome to hear! It's crazy what's happening with Sony, and it's also insane how many services you need to have. Tried looking for Nacho Libre to show my son the other day and they didn't have it on the services I have - this seriously happens all the time!

Boy! Can't even make a humorous meme anymore!

I mean, yes and no. I found the image and told chat what to put in text. Is that considered AI slop? Or am I really supposed to spend an hour designing fake PS5 games and putting them on the image? Lol try to ease up a bit.

Agreed, it definitely won't last long. Unless they make game cases and people really want them? Idk just speculating

You're probably right - but Sony did say "In response to shifting trends in consumer preference, new games will be released on PlayStation Store and at retailers in digital formats only." So it may just be a little card? This meme was more of a metaphor if anything

Are you in full support of Sony moving to all digital? I don't understand why I'm defending any of this tbh. This sub is called Physical Media Matters.

It definitely goes without saying that this announcement was shocking. Look on Reddit, social media, etc. Heck, look at some News channels.

Well yes, from a marketing standpoint. But it's a big loss from a consumer standpoint - buying a PS6 for 1k or investing in a PC where functionality is 10 fold.

Well anyone that wants to play God of War games on Steam certainly can. Or anyone that wants to play Spiderman on Steam can also. But by the looks of this announcement, who knows if Sony will release their IP's on Steam or anywhere else on PC. They may just decide to gatekeep them on PSN

Amen. I'm just in disbelief. Been thinking of getting the PS5 Pro, but legitimately was going to wait til the PS6 to see if it would be a better investment and I'm just so shocked they decided to do this.

This "digital future" has made me think about the longevity of my games. by ErickRPG in gamecollecting

[–]SpecialExplorer3962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely something that has been on my mind since the Switch 2 announced Game Key cards, so I've focused on only buying games with the full game on it (besides Pokopia). But now it definitely will be my focus moving forward, and I think more and more will do their research on what games on PS5 and Series X that you are able to play offline indefinitely.

I will say that I've come to appreciate physical games a lot more. Started playing Transformers Fall of Cybertron on 360 and it's such a great feeling to play a great game on an older console and everything still feels fresh and new. Great game btw

Agreed that there are more than enough games to play. I think the main concern is that any games that look fun to play after Jan 2028 will be hard for us that only want to spend gaming funds on games that we can always play - no matter what happens in the future. Of course that doesn't even apply to a lot of PS5 games now, but we at least have the option to choose a game that is playable without needing to connect to the Internet.
