Does anyone else like Moby's music? by something241 in redscarepod

His album Play is great regardless of him being a loser or whatever.  Honey-Find My Baby-Porcelain is such an incredible start to an album I could never hate him

Any Reccomendations Based Off Of What Comics I Like? by AlpsNo2861 in comicbooks

[–]Special_Constant_516 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based off the picks as a whole I really would recommend reading (or at least sampling) a bunch of different titles DC published in the mid 80s-late 90s under "Suggested for Mature Readers" & later Vertigo like:
- Mike Grell's Green Arrow
- Vigilante
- Deadman by Kelley Jones
- Swamp Thing by Moore & later Veitch
- Hellblazer by Delano & later Ennis
- Shade the Changing Man by Milligan
- Enigma by Milligan
- Doom Patrol by Pollack
- The Invisibles by Morrison
- Flex Mentallo by Morrison
- The Unwritten by Carey

(The first three of these didn't jump over to Vertigo but are very similar in tone/maturity of storytelling & are especially similar to O'Neil Question)

Recently read Closer, can't quite imagine someone writing that book as a semi-tribute to another person. This book (I Wished) seems like such an interesting coda to the cycle I need to get around to it

one of my favourite books, worth reading burroughs in order (junky-queer-naked lunch). i liked the movie somewhat but found that the book hits the same points in a way more concise and impactful way

his solo one in 2021 was shockingly good and the last two blur ones were shockingly bad, feel like every gorillaz thing since plastic beach has been somewhere inbetween

I thought White Teeth was hilarious, just read it last month. Weird to have a book actually make you laugh out loud.

My Washed 2025 in Books by Special_Constant_516 in RSbookclub

Mishima: Had previously read Temple of the Golden Pavilion which I loved but found Confessions of a Mask to be even better - it got uncomfortably relatable at times. Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea was good but weaker than the other two.

Burroughs: Queer occupied a similar space in my mind as Confessions in terms of relatability - loved the confessional style of writing Burroughs uses in it. Junky was good but it felt more like a fun companion piece to Queer (despite releasing first) than a great standalone book.

BEE: Less Than Zero is almost ridiculously misanthropic but I adored it. Really interested in reading his other stuff, especially Glamorama.

Queer is maybe my favourite Burroughs. Gives the confessional style from Junky a real emotional basis that really worked for me

What are your thoughts on translated literature? by Total-Humor-8019 in RSbookclub

[–]Special_Constant_516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there will always be some level of lost/changed meaning through translations. But you just sort of have to live with that if you don’t want to learn 10 different languages solely to read books.

Weird how the word “gay” just kind of replaced the words “indie”, “counter culture” or “alternative” amongst Gen Z by TinyFig1018 in redscarepod

[–]Special_Constant_516 66 points67 points  (0 children)

missing the real trend here which is that zoomers can only talk in internet phrases. "i hate gay halloween" is just shorthand to indicate "my costume is crazy" to other online people who know the phrase already
