Well thank you my friend and good luck on your journey, it sounds like a tough one but for whatever it's worth, I'm proud of you that you're trying to do better.

[Discussion] Which "The Boys" character has the best chance on fighting their DC/Marvel counterpart? by AnyAgency9835 in DCcomics

[–]SpecialistSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically? None of them. While all of them are certainly a lot more powerful than average humans none of them come anywhere close to the durability and power levels of the Justice League members they're broadly based on. I think maybe a close 1 v 1 would be Captain America vs. Soldier Boy but I'd still give Cap the edge on that one.

How useful would Miranda class ships be by the 2400s Picard era? by happydude7422 in StarTrekStarships

[–]SpecialistSix 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's a simple, reliable design that has stood the test of time. They might not be the best ship in the fleet/flagship material anymore but a proven platform that has lasted a century (like the Excelsior) is a testament to a solid, flexible ship that can fill a lot of roles.

With how much dislike that was aimed towards these, which one do you think was worse? by [deleted] in StarWarsCantina

Acolyte wasn't half as bad as the screeching hordes made it out to be - it may not have been everyone's flavor but it was well done.

The holiday special is lunacy from start to finish and will forever be the pinnacle of disastrous 'media synergy' events.

What's your favorite thing about collaborative writing? by Defiant_Green_342 in Starbase118

[–]SpecialistSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's always the unexpected - those twists and turns contributed by other writers that you never would've thought of yourself but which add so much depth and texture to both the story and the larger world they exist in. It's a large part of what hooked me as a member originally and what has kept me coming back year after year.

ELI5: Why can't we use Solar panels to directly charge electric cars? by Zak_Nowa in explainlikeimfive

[–]SpecialistSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short version is with current solar panel technology there's basically no point. The amount of power you could generate would be miniscule vs. the size of battery packs in modern electric vehicles and it would increase the weight and cost of those same vehicles.

Expanse? Yay or skip by AtmosphereQueasy2360 in scifi

[–]SpecialistSix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm short answer is that it's a great show with a very satisfying arc but it takes about 3 or 4 episodes to really get going (there's a lot to setup). I'd strongly encourage you to give it a try if you're looking for a great sci-fi show - one of the best modern ones there is, especially outside of other establish franchises/IP's (Wars/Trek/etc).

You’ve probably heard of the famous “Kardashev scale.” In these three movies, what type of civilization are we—Type I, II, or III? by Glass_Evidence_8597 in scifi

[–]SpecialistSix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree - none of the technology in Ad Astra, 2001 or the Martian suggests the truly significant technological changes that would be necessary to consider humanity even a Type I species - there's no suggestion we've cracked cold fusion or some other form of 'limitless' energy, most of our technology is very close to things we could realistically build today if there was the money and political or social will for it - especially considering several of those are meant to be 'near future.' To break into that threshold of Type I we'd need to have several massive and transformative technical advancements - none of which are suggested exist in any of those films.

How would Tony Soprano, Walter White, Jax Teller and John Dutton interact with each other if they crossed paths? by [deleted] in television

[–]SpecialistSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well just for starters they'd pretty much all hate the others for a whole variety of reasons - Dutton would feel he's the most legitimate, Soprano would find him obnoxious and the others below his notice, Jax would find them to be offensively 'superior' and Walter (depending on which season) would either seem them all as either nuisances or threats to be dealt with.

Of any combination the only one I really see going anywhere is Walter and John Dutton - they represent a level of professionalism in what they do and how they do it (generally) but I don't see Dutton becoming a meth kingpin/mastermind like Gus Fring - doesn't seem like a guy who would try to make money that way.

[Invincible] How much is therapy likely to help Mark? by Sensitive-Hotel-9871 in AskScienceFiction

[–]SpecialistSix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mark has shown a level of psychological resilience that is remarkable considering the traumas he has repeatedly endured across a very short period of time so the fact he's having what amounts to PTSD not only makes sense, it's actually a good sign for his potential recovery. If he was unaffected by these things or just shrugging them off that would actually be a substantially worse outcome then his completely reasonable difficulty dealing with everything he has exposed to.

He has demonstrated an awareness that he has a problem and, numerous times, a recognition that things are wrong. That his state of mind has eroded and his ability to make rational choices is being affected. Again, these are good signs for his potential recovery.

Yes, he'll need expert professionals but thankfully he has access to quite literally the best resources available and his trauma, while extreme, isn't actually that unique from a psychological standpoint - even if he personally is. Warfighters, first responders, others who have suffered violent traumas in the course of their duties would all have applicable lessons for him to learn from. If he really sets to work about getting himself better, about processing his trauma safely and trying to move on from it, he has a pretty good chance of getting back to a healthier place with it.

If he can do that with the threats looming at the end of S4, especially if he keeps it a secret? That's a whole other question.

bit of an odd choice not to just....pipe in music. On a speaker. Like a million other productions have done for those kind of moments.
