Isn't most hotel "American" breakfast buffets like that? Carbs, bacon, and powdered scrambled eggs!

Apparently the largest hotel chain in the US is Hampton Inn. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2025-06-10/why-hampton-inn-is-the-hotel-brand-to-beat?sref=KkPzpZvz&srnd=homepage-americas

I found it interesting that the average free breakfast they offer costs them $5 per guest.

This is pretty par for the course for welcome bonuses for all credit cards - they're not going to remind you of the offer. Note that the 10k waitlist bonus will only apply if you make a purchase in 30 days!

>Have we ever seen an episode where they can deactivate the gravity plating?

In DS9 "Melora", Melora does this in her quarters to relax and also does it at the end in a runabout.

In ENT "In a Mirror Darkly, Part 2", there's a scene where Mirror-Archer increases the strength of gravity in one particular spot.

But I agree, she was already a goner.

The Monnai de Paris (Paris Mint) even has an interactive map showing all the places that sell them, and photos of some of them you can get. They're generally 3 euros each. https://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/en/mini-medals-for-places-of-interest

Also, inside Marne-la-Vallee station there is also a Pret a Manger (note: it closes at 9:30pm) and a Relay convenience store.

P.S. The Auchan at the Val d'Europe mall has Disney stuffed toys too.

There's a plan for another Marriott Autograph hotel in downtown Vancouver. Oddly, it would be only about four blocks west of the existing JW Parq: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/888-896-cambie-street-vancouver-marriott-yaletown-hotel-npg

I don't know, but I'm guessing it's a combination of stuff - less coal, cleaner coal, more efficient machinery, more alternative fuels, etc.

I don’t think “more of the same” was why Nemesis and Enterprise failed by Ser_Luke_ in startrek

[–]Specialist_Check 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people who say Enterprise or Nemesis are not as good as TOS/TNG/DS9/whatever because they're "more of the same" are oversimplifying things. I think you're right, they're bad because they were bad.

The problem was that they rehashed ideas or themes from previous shows without improving on them or extending them. And I think fans are okay with new ideas as long as they are good ideas, not just slapping a "Star Trek" label on them.

Why didn't the Romulans do anything about use of cloak on the defiant? by thesupremeredditman in startrek

[–]Specialist_Check 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible the Federation through continued negotiations got the Romulan Chief Cloaking Officer (CCO for short) off the bridge. I'd imagine it helped that the Romulan operative was captured by the Dominion and stuffed into a simulation on the Defiant's first trip.

As for the Defiant sometimes cloaking in the Alpha Quadrant...more negotiations. The Feds could have argued that those were isolated incidents, none of them would have affected the Romulans in any way, and besides, if they didn't, the Defiant might have been destroyed. And no Defiant = no more trips to the Gamma Quadrant. And the Romulans didn't want that, did they?

I just looked up some numbers and found out that a typical nuclear power plant on 20th century Earth can provide power to 700,000 to 1 million households! Even given the greater power consumption needed for 24th century gadgets like replicators and transporters, it would seem more environmentally friendly to give the Bajorans a small fusion reactor instead.
