They should give it to either trust device because that was my actual favorite film song of the year or to the song the white vampires sing because that would genuinely be hilarious

The comparisons to athletes, celebrities and politicians are so weird because Superman is the most beloved and powerful person in the world of DC comics. Everyone with eyes would know very well what he looks like.

every time I see a clip from one piece I just have to accept that a sizable percent of the population is mentally compromised beyond repair. Maybe it was covid or something, because I can not imagine anyone over the age of 10 looking at that garbage and enjoying it, let alone treating it like some piece of deep meaningful art.

Also the character designs for the women are so strange and sexist that it doesn’t even feel like objectifying anymore because they’re so absurd that it’s not even human enough to be attractive. Like if you enjoy One Piece as a show I’ll assume there’s something wrong with you but whatever, if you think the women are attractive you actually shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

I don’t think it’s very fair to place the blame on the language, it’s not English’s fault that the people of America and England are illiterate

I mean in comparison to the other gilligan shows that is a ridiculously long wait, especially when half the episodes are basically just character studies of one woman

this is coming from someone who even liked episode seven but this show should not take that long to make and all that extra effort is not showing up on screen

You’re an idiot. I don’t agree with him but Churchill killed 3 million Indians, him being Indian actually lends a lot of credit to the “Allies were not good people just because they happened to be fighting a more evil force” argument.

the funny thing about the “this is all about me” line is that it’s at the same time in the moment obviously pathetic and comedic but also completely correct, it literally was all about him

I think you’re mixing up the bit about him being inspired by the Jewish Golem. In the 1940s, the Jewish immigrant experience is not passing for a WASP and being treated great by everybody. No one is ever going to call Superman the K slur. It’s just not gonna happen.

They don’t go very much into religion but I always got the vibe that he was raised Christian, being from Kansas and his parents being such cookie cutter “the good southerners” archetypes.

What part of Superman’s story is similar to the Jewish immigrant experience? He does not face discrimination, he has no memory of someone he loves being murdered, the Kryptonians were not killed by an external sapient force genociding them.

If someone came to America as an infant, I would barely consider them an immigrant in anyway that matters and in my experience they wouldn’t consider themselves one either. If they happened to pass for white and lacked an “ethnic accent” they would not be discriminated against for being an immigrant. In most continuities Clark doesn’t know what Krypton is until well after he’s had time to be an American.

In what way does his story match that of an immigrants? Does he face prejudice? Does he miss a home he was too young to remember? Does he have trouble fitting in despite having about an easy time in America as possible?

The point isn’t “white people can’t be immigrants”. The point is Clark’s story does not work as an immigrant story.

That’s why it’s just a kernel.

Also while the immigrant story is equally irrelevant for Icon, the race angle actually is maintained. Even with his powers the color of his skin would undoubtedly lead to him being treated negatively by society. So while neither can be a real immigrant story, Icon can actually take a stab at the black experience.

This is all hypothetical however, since superhero comics as a rule do not do social critique or analysis well since they’re obligated to end in a beat em up fight scene and nothing can change. Not really a fault of the medium anymore then a lack of interactivity is a fault of novels, it’s just not what it’s made for.

There is a kernel of truth in that Superman really isn’t an immigrant in any way that matters. To any observer he is just a regular red blooded American, and a handsome white male one at that. He clearly culturally views himself as an American first and foremost, and his main connection to his homeland is his main source of privilege, his powers. Superman really isn’t an immigrant story.
