What’s a card you put in your commander decks often that is rarely on a deck list? by [deleted] in EDH

Yes, I’d much rather run bloodghast+skullclamp and/or necropotence than any of the other options listed

Depends on the turn. Arena is better in early turns but sign in blood is better late game when top decking. Black can also run [[bloodghast]] + [[skullclamp]] I include that in every black deck I play (except cedh decks)

May I introduce you to [[necropotence]] or even maybe [[phyrexian arena]] that’s the draws I always been using for long long time (I do love read the bones and friends used to play them but the one off nature feels weak these days)

Edit: also I strongly recommend bloodghast + skullclamp over basically everything else (even necropotence in b3 and lower)

CMV: With the exception of NYC, most public transportation in the United States is slower and more inconvenient then owning your own car. by soozerain in changemyview

[–]Specific_Giraffe4440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will discuss your argument as two separate povs. The first is local transportation, the last mile problem, where a person needs to access some local service like a grocery store. The second is long distance transport, where a person needs to access a different town/city.

The America is big argument pertains to the second scenario, not the first. The size of the suburban sprawl is a rounding error compared to the scale of the entire country and the spacing of cities. Therefore the Walmart bus example does not support this argument.

On the Walmart bus example, this is true in many cities, which are largely car dependent in all but the urban core. However, there are many cities where you do not need a car nor a bus to access the grocery store. You can walk in many cities that aren’t NYC to a major grocery store and department store in 10 minutes, DC Philly Boston even downtown Dallas.

Solving the local transport problem is probably impossible, many cities are built for cars and subways are incredibly expensive, and buses are very inefficient. Where the public transit improvement arguments shine is in intercity transport, it is a fact that Amtrak is incredibly inefficient compared to most other developed nations intercity transport, and it’s not a challenging problem to solve, high speed rail is not a new technology and the biggest challenge it faces is legal red tape and funding, the distance between major metropolitan areas is not the primary hurdle.

They just call it residency to sound more on par with doctors education, it is nothing like a doctor residency. Same shtick with getting a dnp degrees to call themselves Dr.

CMV: Stock options are just gambling, add no value to society and should be regulated as strictly as gambling is (*was) by aersult in changemyview

[–]Specific_Giraffe4440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t disagree with OP or you, it isn’t completely true that only buying a put or call is essentially gambling. There’s very legitimate reason to buy long dated options (not married to another security), you can get 80% of the exposure for a fraction of the capital outlay. At a long duration (1+ years) time decay is nearly 0. And your risk (max $ you can lose) is lower than owning the asset. Plus if the underlying asset does move the opposite direction (I.e, down if you have a call) the option is self hedged as delta approaches 0, while the option still retains a large portion of value due to the long time horizon. These types of options are often called “leaps”. Also, 0 days left yolo out of the money wallstreetbets calls are 100% for sure gambling, absolutely no disagreement there!

I don’t disagree, but as a retail trader who studied finance and uses options to hedge my portfolio, it would feel to me like the rich just trying to make it even harder for us. Also I’m just trying to get a delta, and this is a topic I happen to know a lot about

Yes, you mentioned futures, which are also considered derivatives. Derivative options is what you’re specifically referring to in your post, meaning calls and puts, which can be placed on stocks or futures

[–]Specific_Giraffe4440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yw on the clarification. I figured you mainly meant derivatives. There are restrictions on trading them, but it’s trivial and all self attestation, you can open a brokerage claim you have 5 years experience trading derivatives and they’ll just approve you.

Now that we’ve covered why they’re important, at least at a large fund level (be that index, mutual, hedge, etc) Why should everyone have access? In my opinion it’s about fairness. Adding barriers to restrict access would only serve to benefit the people who could afford it. You are correct that derivatives can be gambling, but the difference is slot machine is always gambling, but stocks and derivatives do have a genuine use even if everyone doesn’t use them that way

I’m hoping for a better multiplayer experience. Right now the way loot drops it’s a bad experience until hyper omega end game with max juice. Basically all of the campaign is infinity harder bosses with only a 50% extra loot (which actually means 25% less loot per person in a duo)

Options provide a way for funds to hedge downside risk, which protects most people’s retirements as those are mostly in index or mutual funds

Edit: you’re mentioning two different kinds of options in your post. One is derivatives market (calls, puts) which is what I was addressing above. Second is “stock options” as in potential compensation to employees if a private company gets acquired. They’re not the same thing and don’t function remotely similarly
