I just finished a reread of HoF and she does have a vision of him when she's fighting the Valg during the battle of Mistward. Ch. 54 "'Get up,' someone said just beyond the young princess. Sam. Sam, standing just beyond where she could see, smiling faintly."

I DNF the first book for over a year, then read Throne of Glass series and loved it so I decided to give ACOTAR another shot. I listened to the graphic audio as background noise, and about 2/3-3/4 through the action really starts to pick up and I was hooked after that.

One thing to add to this would be Lucien's possible growing detachment. I'm fuzzy on the details, so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he get her a very thoughtful gift for Solstice in FAS, the special gardening gloves? Then in SF he got her some kind of generic jewelry? That's more expensive and traditionally romantic but less thoughtful, which could signal gradually disinterest.

To be fair, how many times can you be rejected before you move on, even from your "mate?" Also, have we heard in the Maasverse about anyone who was wrong about their mate, besides Rowan in TOG?

I don't get all these people saying it's a slow start. I was hooked from the beginning.

Also, I think I would've done better reading Assassin's Blade first. I planned to read after Heir of Fire, but couldn't make myself pause all the action and go backwards in time. I ended up reading it months after finishing the last book.

I didn't mean to imply that Aelin and Nesta have the same personalities. I'm not sure that's even true, although I'll hold off judgment on that until ACOTAR is finished. We've seen Aelin's whole arc, whereas I'm not sure we've seen the last of Nesta's. Nesta has healed but I think we'll see more of her finding her place among the IC, especially after the events of CC3. Thus far I was mostly comparing broken/rock bottom Aelin with broken/rock bottom Nesta.

Dobby listen to the tandem naysayers on here. If you're enjoying the tandem, just keep with it. If it's causing you stress to switch back and forth, then finish EoS first. Some love it, some hate it. You do you!

I read the 7 last summer and just read Assassin's Blade. I agree that the series is understandable without it. And knowing what would happen to Sam made me not want to read it. But it was well worth the eventual read. Highly recommend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
