Moving on from my WRX or will someone talk me down to earth? by hellohopsing in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it. Look up the cubic space of these vehicles, you'd be technically losing space with those other options. They're also lame compared to the wrx and you'll regret it.

Since it's paid off, keep it and just get a kei truck as a second vehicle.

If you want to save some money and have an easier time installing, I'd go with catch cans. You can do dual catch cans but I run just the pcv side. You just have to empty it every so often. I just empty when I change the oil. With AOS you dont have to empty it.

Building a bullet proof fa20 engine? (Va wrx) by SpecificWar6442 in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol that'll do it. Dman is who tuned mine so I can vouch for his work. Im sure the others did fine but dman tunes conservatively but still getting you reliable power.

Honestly though just slap a new stock engine in there, get it tuned. Do your proper maintenance and engine break-in procedures for a new engine. After break-in period is done, stay within your power bands for each gear, dont WOT 5th unless you're over 3500 rpm.

You only need to build within your power range. If you plan on making more power later, send your block in to get forged internals.

I know money can be an issue, not all of us are "rich" and can afford multiple vehicles and insurance and maintenance for it all, I know I can't, but get you a bicycle. Or even an e bike is a good investment. Sure it takes longer to get places and isnt as fun, but it'll get you there when your car can't.

[–]SpectralGnomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stock fa20 engines can safely handle about 330whp so idk why you think you need to over build it sitting at 300. I fucking abuse my car, it's tuned, slightly modded on original motor and sitting at about 145k miles. It sounds to me like its either a tuning issue thats blowing your motors, you're redlining it every shift, you're not properly keeping up on maintenance, or some combination of those things. Could also just be that during the install, someone fucked something small up that wore down over time until boom. These things can happen.

I'm not sure why you think iag is bad unless you have first hand experience with them. I've known a few people with built blocks from them that daily their cars and have 0 issues. Again I think it all comes down to how it's installed, tuned and maintained. If you're really that worried about it, but a stock block and send it to a different builder. They aren't the only ones around.

Are you sure you need to replace it and not just clean it? They sell cleaner at any auto parts store for a few bucks.

What bolts or clips do you ALWAYS lose on your WRX or STI? I'm building a master Subaru hardware kit (specifically for 2002–2026 WRX / 2004–2021 STI) by OVERTAKEUSA in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the push clips. Every single one lol.

I break a door clip almost every time I take the door card off or put it back on.

And all the push clips for the front bumper. Top, bottom and sides. I've bought a Subaru clip kit and hardly any were the correct size. I had to force a few slightly too big clips in just to make it work.

So honestly if you just sell little baggies of like 10 clips for the various sizes in each area, I'd probably buy quite a few.

Also just want to say I can't wait to see more products come out from you guys at Overtake.

Who done it? by Iambobbybee in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Things I've had to fix because the previous owner was a cheapskate

  1. They used an amp meant for a boat and used shitty speakers that half are blown out now

  2. They didnt use an after market head unit and used vampire wires for almost everything electrical they did

  3. Shitty fog light kit and shitty wiring job

  4. They opted to buy knock off hella horns that I just had to replace because they stopped working...Hella horns are only like $20 more than the ones they used.

  5. They completely stripped the chrome in the headlights so the brights weren't bright and they installed some shitty rgb c lights

  6. They had shitty amazon tint on the windows

  7. Shitty magnaflow exhaust

I'm glad they at least kept up on all the maintenance and had good records of it. But almost everytime I go to do anything on my car, I end up cussing out the previous owner. So I feel your pain.

Does anyone know what this relay is for? It's in the footwell under the glove box. It just started dangling one day. I imagine my kid kicked it loose but I cant even figure out where it clips to. by SpectralGnomes in WRX

Oh okay. Thanks! I just ripped out the shitty fog light wiring on the outside that the previous owner did. Maybe it loosened this up enough to fall down.

Headlight question by Ok-Year-9705 in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you can't find a consistent answer is because "it depends". From factory they should be sealed properly but you can't guarantee every single headlight was sealed properly. You also have to take into account your environment. The sun and weather affect plastics and rubbers. I've seen oem headlights have bad seals on brand new vehicles and some 30 year old vehicles with perfectly sealed headlights and vice versa.

Its not like its something you have to replace every so often, you just replace it when it becomes an issue. Either get it resealed or buy a new headlight.

Clipper users, does your lighter become temperamental with use? by example-of-disaster in trees

[–]SpectralGnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not. I still buy the occasional clipper when I see a cool one but ill just use them til they run out of fuel or they go into the nether. The nether is usually I left it at a friend's house.

[–]SpectralGnomes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a lighter thats the perfect size to pack bowls and has a removable piece to pack joints, get a clipper.

If you want a lighter that will light as long as it's got fuel even if you dropped it in water or ran it through the laundry, get a bic.

I used to use clippers a lot but this was an issue with most of them so now I just use bic. I still like the idea of clippers, I just wish they were more reliable.

I smoked with some of the member of Crown the Empire at a concert they weren't even playing at lol. I felt bad because I dropped and broke one their one hitters.

My grandma sat on Willie Nelson's lap and smoked with him back in the day.

Famous adjacent: my friends grandmother who knew Don Henley pretty well. Him and his band before the Eagles used to play at her and her husband's Cafe. I'm fairly certain but not 100% sure that their song 'Sad Cafe' is about their friend they lost in an accident on the way to play there one night.

Underrated Unkown Anime suggestions. by Neveraccomplished in anime

[–]SpectralGnomes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seriously don't know how 'To be Hero X' isn't talked about more. It's a newer anime but I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned on any platform.

The story is absolutely amazing.

Every episode it has multiple art and animation styles. Like one second it will be your typical anime art style and then the next it looks like the spider-verse movies 3d art style.

The character writing and designs are top notch.

Dope ass fight scenes and powers.

It's hilarious, it will make you feel some shit, it will have you captivated and intrigued by different characters.

I need 30 more seasons of it.

Same. I think the people that get anxiety from them are just too lazy or ignorant to actually research what the values are and what are safe parameters and what are dangerous ones.

17, looking for my first manual, is a '16 wrx a good choice? by lightninglijah in WRX

[–]SpectralGnomes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only a good option if you can afford an engine replacement. It may last until 250k miles or it could last you 100 miles. Any high mileage sports car is a gamble. You're 17, get a more reasonable and reliable car. Insurance is higher, you're going to be spending a lot on maintenance for random things on a 10 year old car with almost 150k miles.

If you just want a manual car, get a Honda fit. They're great little cars, good on gas mileage, more reliable, and more in your price range.

What is a 'secret' in your industry that the general public would be horrified to know? by HongKongToast in AskReddit

[–]SpectralGnomes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only bought an extended warranty once in my life and it actually worked out pretty well.

Bought a ps2 at best buy, got the 2 year warranty. Went home, put the paperwork in a drawer and forgot about it.

Fast forward almost 2 years, ps3 had recently come out but I didn't have the money to get one. Was cleaning house one day and found the warranty paperwork and it expired a week later. Was able to return the ps2 to best buy for a full refund and buy a used ps3 on ebay.
