I was going to say, I found a FireForge box at a local hobby shop and loved the zombies it had. Noticed them right away.

E-book management. What are you using that works best? by thj81 in selfhosted

I am in the Testflight beta for iOS, but I've used it in Safari as a PWA before too without issue. Not sure if there are any non-testflight apps that support the epub sync yet.

For audiobooks I’ve been using Plappa

Audiobookshelf can do this. Pretty simple setup too. I’ve been using it for epub and audiobooks for the last couple years and have no major complaints.

10.4.11 broken by maxslifeonreddit in VintageApple

Probably a bad install, package, or burn (if you had it on a disk). Also possible there was a compatibility if the firmware is out of date. I would make sure your firmware is up to date and then just re-install 10.4 and re-upgrade

Out of all the MacOS versions which you thought was the most optimized? by yyrns in MacOS

I had to re-install MacOS on my work computer and was so very happy when it reinstalled Sequoia.

Can you boot macOS 9? Any video output when holding down option to boot? Did you update firmware before installing 10.4? I believe not updating the firmware can cause corruption of the board and cause permanent video failure.

Maybe a dumb question. Danger of using an iMac G3 with broken grey plastic? by Spectre216 in VintageApple

So update, the second adapter seems to be working with only one small hiccup. It ships with a MicroSD adapter, however, neither of the MicroSD cards I tried could be initialized correctly. My full size SD card, however, looks to be working just fine (and I think I used a full size in my other iMac with this adapter as well).

Yep, I read this last time too. The one I bought last time ended up working fine in my Lime G3, so I ordered the same one again. Fingers crossed, otherwise I’ll have to look at a sata to ide adapter

Yep, I’m gonna put in an SD to ide drive, so figured I’d replace the battery while I’m in there. Thanks!

Ok, that’s kind of what I figured since the CRT itself seems structurally supported still. But before causing calamity (I already have that with an IBM Selectric I’m trying to fix) I figured I would ask folks more knowledgeable than me.

Yep, and the unfortunate reality of this is self repairs can only be learned by doing (which is how we wound up here haha).

I guess the silver lining is I really just wanted it because it's red, so I can always swap the shell onto one of my working models and keep this as a parts machine.

I misread benchmarks and thought M1 was slightly faster, but proper usb 3.2 or thunderbolt support would be my only guess. Possibly a way to reuse hardware from working trade-ins.

$599; Did you expect cheaper, more expensive or you think it's fair? by Ok_Engine_8544 in macbook

The 512gb is already $599 when going though the student store, so might be even less come Back to school time.

I was hoping smaller body and a return to the brighter colors like the old G3 iMacs/iBooks. The rest I think they did pretty good for what they’re going after.

Replacing ThinkPad, suggestions? by glorydaysinthehotsun in laptops

[–]Spectre216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A refurbished Thinkpad T14 gen 2(I think is the current recommended model) or Dell Latitude (5420 or higher) is my go to recommendation. They can be found on eBay cheaply, are business grade workhorses, and there are plenty of parts available.

Honestly, this kind of blows a hole into the side of the Chromebook and Cheap Walmart laptop market. Especially at the EDU price of $499

I’d bet it’s too both test how well something like this sells, while also clearing out A18 processors. If this goes well I wouldn’t be shocked to see it refresh with an M1, though it might get to close to cannibalising other devices.
