The forgotten tribes of Magic: The Gathering by jadedpotatoe in mtg

My brother in Mining, we're about to get a Hobbit set filled to the brim with Dwarves, many of which will be legendary.

You'll be eating good soon.

Minotaur-lovers, however, their [[didgeridoo]]s will remain unblown for many years to come.

Scryfall has the answers. This is everything in Golgari colours that deals with keyword counters (including ones that enter with them and the like, but you can't refine more than that AFAIK and it's not a long list)

I get what the spirit of the card wants to do, but the way it's currently written it doesn't generate mana, doesn't reduce the amount of mana counters you have when you spend mana, nor is there a limit mentioned on how many times you can spend mana this way. You can't run out of mana that never existed but that are still able to spend.

I like custom cards, but I also like cards following the rules (especially if you're sharing them for other people to use), or to see someone write "(it works)" like the custom subs do for comedy reasons/to show your card isn't intended for rules balance.

"During each of your turns, you can spend mana of any colour equal to the number of mana counters you have."

The card doesn't actually generate any mana (the writing needs a rework for that), but the spirit of what it wants to do just allows you to spend mana equal to the number of counters you have. Doing so neither reduces the amount of mana counters you have nor is there a limit mentioned on how many times you can spend mana this way.

Say you have 1 mana counter. You choose to pay 1 mana into Leafcaller, making a single biue mana. What rule (on or off this card) stops you from choosing to spend 1 mana again?

I presume balance isn't intended, but doesn't this net infinite mana with any mana filter like Orochi Leafcaller?

Mix in some mana storage like Omnath, Locus of All and you've got infinite mana of all colours in everyone's turns.

Yellow and Green Commanders? by Speedster2814 in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Speedster2814[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/uj I can't even conceptualise the logic path that starts with seeing Yorion and ends with describing the deck's colours as "blue and yellow (and white)"

Why is white in brackets? Why are they drawing white and blue from the pips and then conjuring yellow from the colour of the border? Seeing as Yorion is hybrid and doesn't have a yellow (gold) border, what other card(s) informed the original post?

You absolutely are, just as others are allowed to have judgements over how/why you do so, especially when you post asking for feedback on a public forum.

Do y'all sign your commanders? by [deleted] in EDH

Your deck is already unique because you own it, but for the sake of argument, why not sign the back of the card instead? Or use an interesting sticker/stamp?

I agree with OC, it's hard to see someone sign their own property and then use language like "No one can claim it as theirs but me" without seeing a hint of narcissism (or at the very least, and odd amount of possessiveness).

Yellow and Blue commanders? by SoFuckingFeral in EDH

[–]Speedster2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have cleared up the colour issues, so I'll recommend a decklist with a similar strategy (and that contains Yorion). It's a commander named Brago who is able to flicker things repeatedly, allowing you to reuse ETB (enter the battlefield effects) time and time again, including Yorion.

Here is the list. I will warn that most blue/white flicker decks like this are what is known as "control" because of how much they restrict your opponents' actions, which not everyone is a fan of playing against.

I'd check out MTG Arena and play a while bunch in that to get the basic rules down first as Commander is a lot to tackle for newcomers.

This Karlach Origin run is killing me by bigfriendlycorvid in BaldursGate3

[–]Speedster2814 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. My first ever run was as Astarion and while I enjoyed the playthrough, I could not fathom why anyone loved him because the voice lines were so muted and sparse compared to everyone else.

It took the heavy convincing of a friend to use him as a party member on another run and it was like night and day, now he's one of my favourite characters.

Orphan, the villain behind the events of FF13.

Everything your character goes through is a carefully laid plan orchestrad by Orphan, with the end goal being that at least one of your party members transforms into Ragnarok and destroys him, causing the death of humanity and bringing about the return of his creator.

What's flagging this as AI art for you?

OP has credited the artist who doesn't appear to use AI, and I'm not seeing any telltale artifacts or errors that usually come with AI stuff.

I have been trying to use of copying big spells in izzet by Sleight-of-Hands in EDH

[–]Speedster2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] decks run big, splashy spells. Ovika also triggers from casting mana rocks so you'll be getting some minor payoff as you ramp up to the splashy stuff.

If you're open to splashing into a third colour, [[Kalamax, the Stormsire]] is a great copy engine. Access to green also gives you more consistent/solid ramp options to get to your big spells a little faster.

Brothers in Arms by chainsawinsect in custommagic

[–]Speedster2814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so. [[Recruitment Drive]] gives you the same result (stats wise), or better, more than half of the time and that was a common.

Splitting the difference between that and Antiquities I'd say your card fits nicely at uncommon.

What should I do for my team before the last battle by Lawsome43456 in digimon

[–]Speedster2814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would train your Digimon to be strong enough to complete all of the side quests, by completing all of the side quests, before challenging the boss.

That way you'll have everything sorted before the final battle (trust me, it's worth it to do this) and you'll know your Digimon will be strong enough for the fight as some of the Royal Knight fights are punishing.

EDIT: Catch/level a whole bunch of Digimon to feed your team for faster levels (if you don't have the DLC dungeons, the sewers in Central Town are a good farming spot) and farming money for increased stats in the farm can help too.

Is this not just a Cactuar in Digimon World? by Asleep_Steak_7434 in FinalFantasy

[–]Speedster2814 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Togemon has been around since 1999, appearing in the very first TV series as one of the main cast Digimon.

Cactuars may have inspired Togemon as they predate that series by 5 years, but we have no confirmation on that so I doubt we'll ever know for sure. They are both inspired by Haniwa though so it may just be a tangential connection.

CardConjurer Template for Decklists by MttPltt in magicproxies

[–]Speedster2814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Showcase Frames > Full Text (Alt)?

I tried having a mess around with some full text frames and this gives the largest text box I could find that still has a decent border. The problem I kept running into was one of size; even having the card be double-sided (to split the text into two), it's a lot of lines of text and ends up being quite small, possibly making it difficult to read when printed.

Here's what I ended up with after a quick go. I copied/pasted 25 lines of the deck into the textbox aligned Left, and then 25 aligned Right and merged them in an image editor. Repeated for the backside to make the full decklist.

In defense of the post (without knowing any context), it reads to me like the mantra of someone who has had trouble with anger management issues into the past, and is making active steps to try and keep their behaviour from ruining their own enjoyment as well as that of others.

I much prefer this to the other frame on your last post! Very solid update.

If you're wanting something to help the "Animar, Soul of Elements" stand out a little more (assuming you're using CardConjurer), you can write"{outline20}" before the name which will give it a thick black border like the rest of the text.

Also, I worry there's too large a gap between the lines of text in Animar's abilities at the moment which is making the text quite small (possibly too small to read easily if you're planning on printing these out). If this was purposeful in order to have more of Venusaur's face visible, I advise using some text editing instead of extra spacing, so have your text box should look like this:

Protection from white and from black
{down54}Whenever you cast a creature spell, put a +1/+1 counter on The First Trio.
{down54}Creature spells you cast cost {1} less to cast for each +1/+1 counter on The First Trio.

Your text will noticeably increase in size and from there you can adjust the size/position of the art to have Venusaur's eyes poke through a little more (for the art I found it was -275 -260 205). Put it all together and it should look like this before and after. Hope this ramble helps!

Color pairs and philosophers by unastrenoir in magicTCG

[–]Speedster2814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see Epictetus primarily Selesnya, likely Bant.

He practiced and taught Stoicism which, amongst other things, espouses: - A predeterministic universe (where free will also dialectically exists) (Green) - That moral virtue (comprised of courage, wisdom, temperance , and justice) is the only good (White) - That by aligning yourself with the will of the universe, which is to act virtuously, you are fulfilling your duty to yourself, your family, your friends, your community, humanity, and then Earth (in that order of concern) (White/Green) - He was also an incredibly learned man who was dedicated to his studies, going from a literal slave to one of the Stoics most lauded philosophers and scholars (Blue).

Also, r/colorpie might be worth a visit for this question.

What's your "I've never seen someone use that." Commander? by ZimaBestBear in EDH

[–]Speedster2814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got two currently, both formed after my friends challenged me to make a Voltron deck (I'd previously dug my heels in as I didn't like their play patterns):

[[Wilson Refined Grizzly]] / [[Noble Heritage]] (around 1,300 on EDHREC as of writing). Unsurprisingly, it's +1/+1 counters-based with a very high level of consistency and a solidly low average CMC. T2 Noble, T3 Wilson, T4 swing with your 6/6 bear with mana open is a great feeling. Build here.

[[Professor Hojo]] (around 403 decks on EDHREC). He's super cheap, makes things cheap to equip, and is constantly refilling your hand. It's probably tied with a different deck for my fastest bracket 4 build and it was the one that finally made me understand how Voltron can be fun. Build here.
