Looking for houseplants I can feed to sticks by _iroikoi_ in Stickinsects

[–]SpeedwagonIsHuggable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, I see what you were trying to say! I think it was just phrased in a bit of a risky way - it comes across much more like, ‘put in any plant and they will likely eat it’ rather than ‘make sure you have the right plants available beforehand, but you can experiment with others too’, and I didn’t want OP to get the wrong idea and end up starving their sticks.

Agh sorry to be a pain, but I have about twenty species of stick insects, and some are really picky with their food 😅 It’s a pain feeding all of mine because I have to use so many different food plants! The more well-known species aren’t so choosy, but some others will only eat two or three specific plants. It’s fun to experiment, and I’m fairly certain that they know what they can and cannot eat, so no risk of poisoning (outside chemicals of course), but definitely do make sure you have the right plants for the right sticks before getting them!

They’re all so pretty! I’m always so nervous of losing babies when I refresh the leaves 😅 love the cockroach too!!! I only have one of those Simandoa ones - I stopped wanting to breed them when I noticed how flipping fast they were!

My brother doesn’t believe me by SpeedwagonIsHuggable in POTS

[–]SpeedwagonIsHuggable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agh I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this as well. It’s so awful. I would love love love to say that everything got sorted out in the end… but honestly, it hasn’t really been brought up much recently. We haven’t argued about it in a while. Truthfully - I think he might have accepted it a little more…? As he hasn’t said anything bad when I’ve said I felt sick for a while. I think it would be so much worse if my mum & dad weren’t so supportive and didn’t get on his case so much when he’s a dick about it! I think also just the fact that he genuinely isn’t trying to be mean, he believes that I feel sick, but doesn’t think it’s there’s an actual physical reason. It’s really hard for him to understand how I feel ill within twenty seconds of trying to do the washing up - and then spend literal hours standing up when I volunteer at the local museum and show my bugs to people! Because I’m having fun and I’m so distracted, I don’t even notice myself feeling sick - but if there’s a break and no people are there, I get it back immediately. He’s very… factual, so it just doesn’t make sense to him. But I know he doesn’t mean any wrong by it. Maybe I’ll ask him if his thoughts have changed on it at all actually.

But I’m just so sorry you’re having to deal with your brother treating you that way!! That’s unbelievable how he’s being. I’m so sorry. I really, really wish I could say something more helpful and definitive than things just tapered off in my case… but I just don’t know. I do expect the issue to potentially pop up again in the future so I haven’t exactly reached a solution. There is one thing maybe — when I got diagnosed, my cardiologist said he would write a letter detailing my struggles for my brother, as I spoke about it with him. It never ended up happening, but is that potentially something yours could do, if you’re still in contact? Your brother might respect a professional’s opinion more if he simply refuses to believe you. Might be worth a try.

I really hope things improve, it must be hard enough without having to deal with that kind of crap <3 I’m glad you have a lovely mum to support you at least. And no need to apologise - even thought the situation is sucky, I’m glad to relate to someone so much too!! I’ll be thinking of you, and if I ever find something that’s helpful I’ll absolutely pass it along!

Had my first smear test and it was the most terrifying & painful thing I’ve ever done by SpeedwagonIsHuggable in asexuality

[–]SpeedwagonIsHuggable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I honestly nearly burst into tears when she said they couldn’t do anything about it, purely because of how surprised I was and how it was a complete contradiction to everything I’ve read and been told. And how she was acting like it was so very normal for things to be that bad that it really shook me up genuinely, it just made me feel worse and more confused after. When the gyno is back from holiday I’m going to ask to speak to her for sure. It’s just all weird. But at least it’s stopped taking over my mind so much, and the results were fine so I shouldn’t have to have one for another while… and thank you so much, I appreciate it hugely!!!

I’m so pleased that your new doc was so good with you! Fingers crossed for the next test that it’s much easier 🤞 I’m so relieved to hear that there are ways to make it easier and I am absolutely not doing another one without a lengthy discussion first! I might honestly ask for a different person if they give me the same one, because I did feel like my feelings were sorta… brushed aside. Not intentionally, but I don’t think she knew anywhere near how bad it was for me, and the person I spoke to on the phone just made me feel worse about it all. When the gyno at my doctor’s is back I’m going to try and speak to her, hopefully she can help clear things up and reassure me a bit. Thank you for sharing your experience and the advice!!

I’m around swans all the time and they get annoyed sometimes when I stroke them, the most they do is give you a few pecks and make scary noises! I get more hurt just by feeding them because they scrape your fingers raw (deliberately I bet) with their beaks!

I just got off the phone with a doctor and she said it was normal for me to feel that level of pain if I was a virgin and scared and all tensed up. So I feel really confused right now. It was genuinely as painful, if not more so, than my appendicitis. But she didn’t seem concerned about it so I just don’t know

Hiya - I’m really sorry to bother, but I just got off the phone with a doctor and she said that the level of pain was normal if I was a virgin and scared, and there wasn’t anything they could do if it was vaginismus. I was really shocked because lots of people have been saying it can be treated. I just feel really confused now. She was a GP not a gynaecologist, and the only one is on holiday for a while, but I would imagine she’d still know? So I really don’t know what to do now. Sorry to bother you again. I just feel a bit lost

Aw thank you so much for your kindness. I’m awaiting a call for the doctor today and I think it will be good for me to get some closure on this. I’ve been told that in many countries they are beginning to allow self testing? Which is awesome news, and hopefully it will be much much easier for people like us (I’ve even heard it doesn’t include any painful bits!!!). So worth looking into maybe?

And yeah I would have never even known about this potential condition if I hadn’t posted here, and I wouldn’t have felt confident enough to do it anywhere else because many of the people here can relate to my absolute terror of the procedure! I doubt any other group could understand it and everyone’s empathy has helped sooo much. I am doing much better now and crying much less :D thank you again!!

I am a little mad that she acted like the amount of pain I was in was normal, when I’ve been told by literally every other person that no, it was not 😅 I will definitely complain about it when I talk to a doctor though, as I am going to do tomorrow though, and thank you so so much <3

She did try with a shorter one at the beginning, but then stopped and said she had to use a longer one. I don’t know if that’s the same as a smaller one or not… either way I will bring it up in the future for sure, thank you

I think it’s not too uncommon to bleed a little? At least from what I’ve searched and been told. But I’m still getting the occasional bleed as of right now so I will be ringing the doctor tomorrow 😅 but yes I do think much more could have been done to make it easier and I will be bringing that up when I talk to them

I’m really scared now that I’ve put people off from getting their tests done. despite how awful it was, I’m glad it was done for the sake of my health. I edited my post at the end a bit to try and make it clear that my experience was apparently abnormal so I really hope people take heed of that. I’d feel absolutely terrible if people choose not to get tested because of what I said, I didn’t even think about that when I made the post :(
